Samuel Adams Tasman Red Red IPA

Samuel Adams Tasman Red Red IPA

This wily red IPA gets its character from the Tasmanian hops that are full of grapefruit, pine and earthy notes creating a bold flavor that threads throughout the taste. The hops are balanced by a core of roasty malts that give this brew body and richness with hints of toffee. This flavorful brew is rounded and smooth with a dry and citrusy hop finish.

3.3 Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark reddish pour with slightly off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, hints of herbal notes in there as well, touch of orange. Taste is a mix of orange, grass, grapefruit, some caramel, toffee into a bit of spice, yeast, finishing slightly bitter, slightly dry.
3.6 Deep amber color , big beige head. Aroma of pine , citrus and caramel. Malty , biscuit , caramel taste with hoppy bitterness. Long bitterness in aftertaste.
3.9 "this was a pleasant surprise and one i hope makes its way to 6 packs in 2012. beautiful red color with thick tan cap and a ton of lacing. nice, fresh citrus and pine hop aroma with the caramel and biscuit malt in the background. flavor near perfectly balanced. always bitter, but sweet and easy drinking at the same time with the liberal amount of malt flavors as well. very nice. 5-12...super nice in 22’s and draft...12 oz mix pack tasted like a lesser beer. WTF?!"
3.3 How: Bottle. Where: The Bishops Arms Gamla Stan, Stockholm. Appearance: Amber colour with a beige head. Aroma: Malt, bread, caramel, hops, some fruit. Body: Medium body and carbonation. Flavour: Fruit, hops, caramel, citrus, malt, grass.
4.0 12oz bottle - I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying a few well made single hop pale ale’s from a local brewery, that have used the Topaz and Galaxy hop before, so I’m semi-familiar with it and it reminds me in many ways of a Cascade hop (which isn’t a bad thing). Aroma seemed bursting with hop elements like citrus and pine, but I found some subtle notes of wood and tropical fruits around mid-glass, which I don’t find in Cascade. The malts find a surprisingly loud voice in this beer with lots of sweet bread and caramel with a nice balancing touch with a spicy/citrusy hop punch. If they started making this available in 6 packs, I’d be a happy camper.
3.5 Lightly hoped, dark auburn color, aromas have hints of milk chocolate, taste is toffee mild and roasted
3.2 4 oz draft pour at ChurchKey during the Kosmic Mother Funk Grand Cru Launch Party. Clear ruby to dark amber with off-white head. Aromas of spices and what seems like pumpkin. Tastes of spices, light pumpkin, light toasty notes, hops are very low. Medium body with a dry finish.
2.5 Appearance: deep dark red...bronze. small white head. Aroma: copper, hops. Meat? Taste; hops, baking soda, . Sour aftertaste. Feel. Medium carbonation, thin. Ok. Disappointed.
3.3 Pours a clear, brownish red, with a light tan head. Aroma is of toffee and malt. Taste is complex; a little sweet and malty, notes of hops and dark fruit, a little hoppy at the finish. A very nice beer, that really doesn’t seem much like an IPA to me, since the hops are so subtle. Thumbs up.
3.2 Reddish brown with thin beige head. Sweet aroma, not distinctly grapefruit. Grapefruit is apparent in the flavor, along with a good IPA base. Pretty good.
3.4 12 oz bottle with a July, 2014 best by date. Aroma is spicy with with a moderate toasted bread character and some caramel and nuts. Medium light herbal and floral hop notes with some pine resin and a hint of citrus. Faint alcohol spice. Pours a cloudy, dark red, almost burnt amber with a moderately sized, medium thick tan head that shows average retention. Moderate lacing and small legs. Flavor has a light sweetness with moderate toasted bread and some caramel notes as well as some toffee. Moderate bitterness with medium light hop character. Hop flavors are a blend of citrus and tropical fruit with a bit of pine resin and dank earthy notes. Light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer with a nice malt character upfront but the finish isn?t as nice. Hop character isn?t as impressive as it could be but it works alright with malt notes.
3.3 tasting-toffee, malty, nice bitterness, grapefruit, and piney, decent, perhaps worth a try.
3.0 This is not at all what I expected, expecting a grapefruity resinous explosion of tropical fruits, instead it’s herbal, spicy and earthy, maltiness is pronounced. Maybe this was old?
3.5 Draft at Moriartys. Translucent dark red copper pour. Starts with a large foamy white head. Smooth malty IPA. Dark wheat aroma. Juicy dark red fruit in the mix. Dried strawberries. Black plums. Red grapes. Celery root. Bit of soft spice in there. Definitely malts over hops.
3.7 Reddish with a thick off white head. Aroma is slight hops with some roasted malts. Flavor is sharp hops with a bit of nutty malts. Slightly sweet in the finish.
3.3 Smells floral and malty, a bit of sudsy hop. Tastes grassy, bitter, slightly metallic. Body is thin to medium with small bit of carbonation.
3.5 Bottle from QClub on Jay's roof. Dark red pour with fluffy head. Piney juicy hops aroma. Taste is crisp piney hops with bitterness and a solid malty backbone. Pretty good IPA - especially for $25.
3.1 [5377-20130524] 1pt6floz bottle. Mild floral toasted grains aroma. Clear, dark golden amber body with a medium-lasting creamy tan head. Sweet burnt caramelized grains flavour. Medium-full body. Interesting. (6/3/6/3/13) 3.1
2.2 Big thanks to nike for this unrated beer. Funny how we call these brownish colored beers red, heheh. Big giant head like puffy rocky clouds. Taste is a malty brew mixed with IPA, more like a stronger brown or red ale in flavor. Probably one of the milder IPA I’ve tasted and I’m thankful for that. If this is close to 7%, it hides its alky content well. Smell is not really that of an IPA, more like a malted beer aroma. Decent co2 fer now. Ok, after the session continues, there is this ipa building sensation starting to rise in the back of my throat. Yes, each swig as I near the end of the bottle starts to have more and more IPA - ish things going on. However, never really rises to the impact of a full ipa. Probably could be in the red or brown ale category.
4.0 Transfer from BA review on 3-21-12 - Served in 10 oz chalice glass Appearance – Served a nice deep red color with a small slightly off white head. The head faded quick leaving a nice level of lacing. Smell – The smell is quite sweet up front. There are great aromas of cherry, caramel and a nice roasted –bready malt base. A nice citrus aroma is very pertinent as well; citrus in nature and a bit more citrus candy sweet in smell. Taste – In the front of the taste there is a nice roasty and bready malt base with a good caramel sweetness. More towards the middle a nice hoppy flavor really works its way into the mouth. Citrus and a bit of pine really begin the hop flavor. More toward the end however the hop turns to more and more bitter grapefruit citrus in nature and leaves a very strong grapefruit bitterness in the mouth. Mouthfeel – A little more creamy and thick then the normal brew with a average level of carbonation. It very nice for the style; the carbonation complements the nice grapefruit hop and the thicker body the nice bready-caramel flavors. Overall – This is a very tasty brew. Nice malty hop flavor with a great aroma and mouthfeel. One to try and have many a times.
3.7 On tap at Dan's. The pour is a darker rubyish color with a decent white head and some good stringy lace. The aroma is big on grapefruit and hops. There is also a great resin character that really keeps this thing dry. The flavor is equally as good. Nice resiny bitterness up front followed by the hops and fading into a great dry bitterness. I'm actually a fan. The mouth feel is a touch thin, but the carbonation helps, and the aftertaste is nice piney, dry, and a little bitter. Not bad at all!
3.4 Rated on 02-10-2012 (Bottle) This beer has a large beige head with a lengthy retention, transparent reddish-orange body, fizzy carbonation, and a generous amount of lacing. The aroma is roasted malt, pine hops, earthy, and grapefruit. The flavor is lightly malty, lightly bitter, pine hops in the background, and has a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is soft carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This beer is not very hoppy tasting for being an IPA. The hops take a backseat for the style.
3.4 red pour with a 1/4in off white to orange head . No aromas ,Big up front hops bite with a light malt Finish . Not a fan of reds but I would drink this again
3.7 Pours a caramel red color with a a khaki head. Hop, caramel, citrus and malt aroma. Caramel, hop, citrus, pine, biscuit and malt flavors. Medium body and average carbonation. Caramel and citrus finish. Not bad.
4.2 Not bad, really. A little sweet with malt, backed with slightly bitter hops. Lots of flavor.
3.4 A malty aroma comes from this deep red crystal clear beerwith a creamy brown head. A bit of bitterness and biscut come i get a bit of chocolate on the aftertaste. The maltieness comes out but not much. Overall not bad for this medium bodied brew
3.3 Was nervous with the dark appearance but the tats had good character. Nice hoppy taste meshed with a slight malt finish
3.3 Aroma is earthy, dirty grapefruit hop and rich toasty malt. Thick off white head with tremendous lacing. Flavor is roasted malt, earthy, herbal hop, kind of medicinal. Sticky, thin mouthfeel. Aroma and appearance is 100% incredible. Flavor, however, is a little off-putting. I’d still say this is a pretty good beer.
3.9 Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a dark brown body and gives a thick foamy off-white head that leaves slightly thick lacing that evenutally spider webs and thins out after about a minute. The body is too dark for any carbonation to be seen. The smell had a combination of caramel and malts with a slight presence of fig, slight hops try to stand up here and there. The taste had a sweet malty presence surrounded with the fig, caramel and some slight hops try to stand up again but remain mostly subdued. The palate was about a medium with a smooth creamy feel that comes out really easy on the tongue, sessionable. Overall, I really like this. Since I’m a fan of browns and reds, I see some similarities from them fused into this brew. The IPA qualities that come out show the complexity of this brew. No doubt I would get this again.
