Samuel Adams Weiss Bier

Samuel Adams Weiss Bier

This American version of a traditional Bavarian wheat beer is pale gold in color, flavorful and very enjoyable. Two row malted barley and malted wheat give it a crisp but layered maltiness with a light sweetness. Hand selected Spalt Spalter hops impart a bright finish and Bavarian yeast adds a special spiciness. Cheers! Jim Koch

3.2 Somewhat murky pour... medium head which doesn't last. Heavy bananna/wheat aroma. Taste is predominantly bananna with a bit of clove and a hint or two of some spice. Somewhat thin, but most hefe's are in my experience. Little to no carbonation. One dimensional. Lacks the depth of those delicious weihenstephaner's... but it's Sam Adams. They're not going to brew an earth-shattering beer. It IS a decent hefe... smooth, easy drinking, and reasonably priced. I can see myself buying this again, unfortunately, the chances of getting it in the summer are slim to none... which is ridiculous.
3.4 [bottle] Nice hazy gold color with small head and light carbonation. Aroma of wheat mixed with a slight hint of banana. Initial good wheat flavor with that slight banana undertone and a good bitterless finish. Very nice.
3.2 This is one of the best weiss beers I've had for a long time (and from Sam A!?). Actually has the banana notes that weiss beers are supposed to have. Props
3.2 Pretty good Hefe, especially from Sam. However, this beer left a slight aftertaste.
2.4 hazy golden color. smells like jersey shore saltwater taffy. tastes much like that as well. i like bananas but not in liquid form
2.7 Marginally hazy gold, clearer than it should be. Unpleasant scent, mix of typical weiss spice and banana with some nasty sour/skunk. Tastier than expected, nice candyish character, plenty of banana, bit of spice. A bit overly cloying, but actually not bad, which is significantly better than expected.
3.0 i normally don't like this style of beer, but i kinda liked this one. nice cloudy appearance with the banana-y clovey aroma. very refreshing. like someone else said...it's strange that this is a winter beer. oh well.
3.0 A decent take on this style froma brewery that has not been impressive in several years. A very banana and clove taste, still this beer ends up being very light and basic. A little over carbonated, with some nice zinge and spiciness. Very drinkable.
2.8 Banana aroma. Cloudy yellow appearance. A wheat flavor with a huge dose of more damn bananas. Please tell me why this is a Winter Seasonal? Its ok but the worst beer I've had from these guys outside of Sam Adams Light. I dont like bananas and I dont care for these generic wheat beers that display nothing but that in the flavor. Sorry Im ranting but I wont be going here again.
3.8 A very good example of a german weiss beer. Nice banana and clove flavors come through. I have drank several cases of this beer and will do so again in the future.
3.5 Cloudy golden with small off-white head. Aroma is clove, banana, wheat, some orange with light grassy. Taste is much the same, though the wheat is more pronounced. Carbonation a bit above average, though par for the style. Altogether, SA does a pretty decent job with this one.
3.6 A very good Hefe. Impressed Sam Adams did such a good job. Nice hazy amber color with a decent white head. Banana aroma, somewhat floral as well. Some hops in the taste as well as the hint of banana. Pretty smooth and I'd like to have this again.
3.4 This is a pretty decent hefe. I added the yeast sediment to my beer. Pretty good cloudy light gold color, with some typical wheat beer smell and taste: notes of bananas and clove. Moderate hop bitterness, somewhat dry. Smooth and easy to drink.
3.1 An unclear orang beer with a beutiful head. The aroma is very sweet - with non of the sourness that German hefeweizen usually have. The flavor is sweet, wheaty and malty - and no bitterness. All in all an OK German hefeweizen - but a boring example on my tastebuds.
3.1 Hazy orange color. Yeasty banana aroma. Yeasty flavor with hints of citrus and clove. Medium bodied. A nice effort.
3.5 Bottled. Muddy pale orange. Big banana aroma. Sweet and yeasty with rounded mouthfeel. Stylish and authentic.
2.8 Hazy straw color with a wispy white head. Thicker powdery feel. Citrus, bubblegum and cloves nose. Wheat and malt flavors start and then a sharp bitterness kicks in that distracts. Not a bad effort.
3.6 Surprisingly good. Orange, cloudy, big white head. Bubblegum, banana, cloves, yeast.
3.6 A nice fruity hefeweizen. Poured a murky brilliant orange with a moderate, coarse head. Big yeasty, fruity flavor with evident banana and citrus.
3.5 Ya know, I keep expecting Samuel Adams' brews to be more "generic" tasting--but each one I try is a pleasant surprise. Their weiss beer pours a nice golden color with a pretty head. Very cloudy (as it should be for an "unfiltered" beer?) Not a whole lot going on in the aroma. Taste is quite pleasant with merely a hint of banana; no cloves that I could detect. Very smooth and drinkable--especially on a hot day.
3.0 Pours a golden color like a lager. Wheaty aroma. Virtually no banana or citrus taste. Does't have that sharp and crisp taste of a hefeweiss. A decent thirst quencher.
3.1 a pretty good wheat beer with a slight hint of banana. this was a beer that took me about 3 weeks to drink 6, i just had to be in the mood for one, and more than 2 was not in the question. after 2 you dont want any more of these beers, they are too sweet. nice pour and good sam adams quality.
1.5 Slight banana aroma, typical wheat appearance. Fast fade head. Flavor spicy, bitter and quickly forgotten. Unimpressive.
3.4 Pours a little darker than the "pale gold" description, and looks dark and beautiful in the glass. The aroma is sweet-spicy, if that makes any sense at all. Flavor is smooth with a little bite, and it leaves a slight crisp (bite/tart) aftertaste. Overall, a good beer. I wouldn't turn one down.
3.5 Cloudy yellow color with a fluffy off-white head that fades quickly. Smell is of cloves, bubblegum and, especially banana. Taste is strongly banana, with a slight spicy overtone. One of SA's lighter offerings.
3.4 A solid beer, but nothing great. Flavorful, but restrained for mass market appeal. Better than water on a summer day.
3.0 Light somewhat cloudy golden color with substantial off-white head. Mild aroma of spice and yeast. Flavor is crisp, smooth, mild and spicy with a slightly dry finish. Malt is detectable along with citrus (lemon/orange) flavors. Somewhat watery body fits the flavor well.
2.8 (Bottle) Copper body and white head. Straw and hop nose. Hoppy flavour with bitter finish. Nothing memorable...
1.2 I'd like to add to Cobra's rating, except for the fact that it smells like barf. Really, this is one of the worst weissbiers I've ever tasted. Boston Beer Co. isn't doing too well in my eyes. It *does* look pretty good, since it's unfiltered, but that's all it's got going for it. Lacks that certain sharpness that the real German wheats have. Way too much citrus. Reminds me of a gross version of "Blue Moon." And what's with these other reviewers? Why is it that there is *always* "banana" involved? Maybe I've got a bad batch, but I can hardly taste banana in this vile stuff. Points here are given only because it is pretty.
2.5 Poured a nice, hazy golden orange, rapidly diminishing white head. Grainy nose, without discernable hops. Palate average. The taste at first was more along the lines of an American wheat beer with little hops. As it warmed, some of the Bavarian characteristics began to peak through, with faint banana and cloves. Very faint.
