3.0 12 oz. bottle. Pours a light golden color with a small white head. The aroma is mostly spices, light caramel, wheat and some citrus. The flavor is pretty light; some spices, citrus, caramel and wheat malt. An average witbier at best.
3.5 4/29/2011: Samuel Adams White Ale... Aroma: Plenty of wheat malt goodness spiked with yeast, clove, a touch of nutmeg, and golden raisin. Appearance: Excellent pour into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass... Cloudy golden color; ample carbonation; 2-fingers Fof dense, puffy, off-white foam that doesn’t dissapear. Flavor: Caramel-toffee wheat malts with a delicate floral and citrus hoppiness; lemon bar sweetness with a splash of orange; good spice level that contains cinnamon and clove, sweet orange peel, and just a bit of allspice dryness. Palate: Medium-bodied, with a good feeling in the mouth; smooth and plenty airy without being over done. Overall: Quite good and definitely under-rated; this is another solid offering from a solid brewery that sometimes gets too much criticism; I’d rather drink this beer over Blue Moon! 12 fl. oz. bottle (Enjoy before July 2011) from Kroger Fresh Market in Harrison, Ohio. Rating #1084 for this beer.
3.2 A - A Pours a hazy orange with amber tones. A bone-white head with tight bubbles. One speck of lacing left behind. S - Wheat grain, banana, chalky yeast, hints of lemon citrus and spice. T - Coriander and citrus off the top. Mellow yeast behind dry grainy wheat. It has a kiss of sweetness along with a white peach tea flavor. Lemon is evident from front to back. Finishes semi dry. M - Velvety creamy feel. A slightly above average Wit. Good balance between ingredients. Amazing texture. Very smooth and creamy. Serving type: bottle 01-14-2011
3.4 From bottle. Pours orange in color with nice white head. Aroma was bread, orange and some spice. Taste followed. The balance leaned toward sweet. Decent.
3.3 12oz bottle. Pours a pale golden cloudy body with quickly dissipating head leaving a decent amount of lacing. Aromas of mild citrus and spice with some wheaty notes. Taste is similar to the nose, citrus and spice with wheat notes.
3.1 Overall this was ok had a nice spice up front with a decent malt back to finish off the beer
3.2 {from notes of 2011 tasting) 12 oz bottle served in pint glass; slight sediment in bottom of bottle added midway thru tasting. A - hazy golden with a ivory-colored head. Head has average retention and leaves little lace. Looks highly carbonated. S - toasted grains dominate, with some citrus but little sign of the added "spices" T - The flavor is less spicy than expected too, but the spices do show up more prominently in flavor than in the aroma. Nice clean, lightly spicy aftertaste. M - light body. Crisp. Semi-dry, near dry, finish. This is a unique White Ale. Witbiers are not my favorite style but I found this ale to be both interesting and appealing.
3.2 Bottle. Pours cloudy orange with a medium white head. Sweet aroma with strong orange and light yeast notes. Moderate citrus flavors with light yeast and wheat notes. Smooth and drinkable but almost too sweet.
2.7 Mostly clear golden yellow pour, head looked nice but didn’t linger. Bready aroma. Light bready flavor, but doesn’t linger. Easy to drink, but nothing special.
3.1 12oz bottle, hazy, golden, white foam, light citrus hop aroma. Medium sweetness, especially for a Wit, light body, average CO2, some complexity with spices and fruits. Clean crisp finish.
4.0 Don’t let the White Ale part fool you, this wit-bier pours an amber color with a slight scent of wheat. It has a slight bitter taste like a pale ale but very small. The spices are very evident but blended nicely. Another great beer from Sam Adams.
2.7 Appearance: hazy almost clear golden color, moderate size head fades quickly Aroma: wheat, lemon, Taste: orange on the tongue, bit of wheat finish Palate: some burn on the tongue, a hint of froth, orange and wheat aftertaste Overall: one of my more preferred orange flavored beers but still I’m not an orange flavor fan, bottle named white lantern
2.1 Not much aroma or taste from this watered down hazy yellowish beer. Easy drinker, with barely any belgian yeast or spice that i would be looking for with the style. Meh.
3.0 (Bottle). Nice floral hop aroma. Short flavor of wheat, citrus and spices with a strange element of ale taste. This beer has a strange but kind of fun flavoring!
3.1 Happy to grab another Sam Adams brew! Aromas included light herbs, lemon zest, hops and bread. I like the spicy body of this beer, the yeast and straw notes make for a mouthful of light and complex flavors.
3.5 July 2009: Brown 12oz bottle, part of a six pack, poured into a Corsendonk badged, stemmed tulip glass. Cloudy haze (just like it says on the bottle neck label), dirty yellow/golden colour, good firm white head. Plenty of bubbles rising through the body. Spicey mix aroma, corriander, lemon and pink grapefruits. Keen and sharp in the mouth, well carbonated and fairly dry to taste. The taste follows the smells to the letter, a sweet and sour feel from the grapefruit and lemon mixture, the spices adding a little extra to the run of the mill white beers out there. The taste and aroma sweeten as the beer warms. The 5.2ABV is hidden well, but it does lack a body strength which would put it up there with the top white beers. Another Samual Adams beer I’ve enjoyed.
3.2 25th July 2009 Very slightly hazy amber beer. Smooth dry palate. Rich dry spicy malt with a strong finish of bubblegum and aniseedy alcohol. Warming afterglow. A bit different for a Witbier. Brandyish.
3.6 Originally reviewed: 12/20/10. Part of the Winter mix pack. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a slightly cloudy pale gold. A thin white head rest atop. Fair retention; left some good lace behind. The nose is pretty basic. Some light spices, wet hay, citrus zest. Smooth feel, with a crisp bite on the finish. Some faint citrus like lemon and orange in the flavor. More bready than anticipated. This isn’t one of the more spicy Wits out there, but it hits the spot. Also, I’m not sure this is the season for this style, but no matter. A good beer, just not necessarily a good Witbier.
3.2 Tasted 12 oz bottle into nucleated pint glass. Slightly hazy golden color with fluffy, aromatic off-white foam. Soft, round spiced wheat ale flavors and aromas. Some spices were added, nicely blending with the Belgian-style yeast to suggest citrus, clove, banana, pepper. A bit watery and muted compared to classic examples, but pretty good. Crisp, dry finish.
2.2 Bottle; Pour is cloudy light golden with a modest white head; spotty lacing. Bready, fruity, and spicy on the nose; A creaminess from the head; the beer devolves a bit
2.6 Bottle. Hazy light caramel creamy white head. Smells like bread and spice and tin. But of a buttery flavor. Light and round.
3.0 Bottle. Some dried fruits and spices on the nose. Flavor isn’t bold but good balance of wheat, citrus and spice.
3.0 A winter ale is meant to have some grit to it with all the extra spices and sugars. This one does not have that, but the flavors are still pretty good.
3.5 On tap at Claddagh in Legacy village in Lyndhurst, Oh. Poured into sam adams perfect pint glass. A: pale yellow with slight silky head with good retention. Slight hazy in typical wit style S: clean aroma, hint or orange, corriander, and other citrus
3.0 aroma, slight light fruit, spice , amber hue cloudy, some bottom sediment, taste, spice on the front, some cinnamon, cloves, then fruitness, not strong, overall, a refreshing beer, wish it more stronger notes!
4.0 12oz bottle - Blue Moon tends to get all the glory with the uninformed, but this beer runs rings around Blue Moon and just showcases how great an American made wibier can be. Just oozing with a juicy orange aroma, lots of black pepper, light bread and some fruity esters. Flavor echoes the aroma with tons of fruity notes, orange juice/peel, coriander, black bepper. It’s a beautiful poor, cloudy orange body with a rich, thick 1/2" head. My wish would be to see this beer at the lips of Blue Moon drinkers and they’d see how much better this really is.
3.0 on tap at papago 1/30/11. hazy yellow/pale yellow. it smells and tastes of sweet orange, vanilla, dusty spice and wheat. it is not bad but it is a lot sweeter than i like my wits 5.5/3/5/3/13-
3.0 From notes: Pours a hazy straw color with a small white head and lots of carbonation bubbles along the glass. Mild fruity ester aroma mixed with some yeast. Medium-bodied with a bit of depth and a very slight thickness. Taste somewhat yeasty with notes of lemon and spice beneath.
3.6 Poured from bottle in Chalice. Appearance: Cloudy pale yellow, with not too much head or lacing. Aroma: Mostly wheat and orange peel, not too much coriander or clove comes through. Taste: Predominately wheat malt and citrus, with some spiciness coming to the forefront at the end, mostly coriander and white pepper. Very well balanced, even if nothing really stands out. Palate: Moderate carbonation, medium body that is fuller than expected for the style. Dry finish. Overall: Either despite or because of the subtle spicing, this is a very refreshing, balanced Witbier. Some think it is strange in the Winter Pack, and maybe it is, but it is a nice refreshing choice.
3.0 Golden color with a nice white head. Smell of clove and anise. Good carbonation. Spice and yeast. Not a bad white beer but nothing special either. This was a gift and past its best by date. Maybe a fresher beer will taste better.
