Samuel Adams White Lantern

Samuel Adams White Lantern

Belgian style white ales have a long history of unique ingredients, as brewers experimented with spices discovered during the spice trade. For our hazy brew we found a refreshing combination of crisp wheat, the tangy sweetness of tangerine & orange peel, and the subtle spiciness of coriander & grains of paradise. Cheers!

3.3 Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. Purchased as part of a 12 pack from a Publix grocery store in Savannah, GA. Appearance- this witbier is a cloudy golden orange . Large white head that stayed with the beer for some time. Smell- sharp citrus aroma, that I personally enjoy. Taste- could definitely taste the citrus and wheat, not a bad combo at all. This is a very enjoyable summer brew that I would drink again. Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and slightly tart. Overall: A decent light wheat ale with some nice citrus and coriander notes.
3.5 Transfer from BA review on 2-16-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance- Pours a hazy yellow-golden color with a two finger fizzy white head. The head fades rather fast leaving only a lighter level of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is of wheat and coriander mixed with some citrus of orange and lemon. Along with these aromas are notes of yeast as well as a light banana smell, giving it a rather classic wit aroma. Taste – The taste is as how the nose would predict. It begins with a wheaty and citrus taste of orange up front. As the taste advances lemon comes to the tongue bittering the taste very lightly. This lemon is accompanied by a yeasty taste as well as some light spice notes of coriander. As the taste advances to the end the spices get stronger in nature, eventually leaving a wheaty and yeasty spiced flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel-The body of the beer was on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that was average to just above average. Both are very appropriate for the style, complementing well the wheat and citrus flavors as well as for making a quite easy drinking brew. Overall- A pretty nice version of a witbier, but nothing to exceptional.
3.5 bottled from summer variety case - pretty good concoction. Has a nice, refreshing, summery taste. An interesting mix of spices - goes good with a buffalo chicken cheesesteak (I know because I just had 1)!
3.5 Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a Shock Top Wietbier glass. The color is a hazy/cloudy yellow with a tint of orange and three fingers of foamy white head that left a slight of lacing on the glass. The smell is pretty tangy with a big orange and tangerine aroma. There is a slight lemongrass aroma there as well that adds to the spicy citrus twang. The taste has more of a wheat presence then the aroma. The bready flavor is the big factor here with some tangerine or orange rind toward the back. There is a slight bitterness in the back but does not impart much to the flavor. The feel of this beer is light bodied and goes down pretty easy. There is a nice slight crisp feel and is nice and smooth going down.
3.0 10th July 2014 bottle from a mixed Samuel Adams pack my son-in-law bought because I like ’different beers’. It was hot and I wanted something to cool me down, this did so without testing my taste buds too greatly. Misty yellow body with a full white head. Subdued aroma and flavours of the usual ’Witbier’ style, orangey, wheaty and spicy. This was OK, but it is not my sort of brew and although I have tried a few over the years I struggle to really enjoy them: scored objectively.
2.3 Pours a pale yellow with a persistent white head. Fairly thin mouthfeel with some lemon and orange notes.
2.9 Single from total wine. Lemon little bit of spice and wheat. More on the pepper side of the equation. A little quick on the finish. Many better whites put there.
2.8 Watery malted wheat with weak citrus and predominantly lemon notes. Muddy mouth feel. Low carb. Medium bitter finish, sweet bready, yeasty wheat flavor, slight tropical fruit finish. Nothing special.
3.0 Bottle to half-pint. Looks solid; a hazy apricot with foamy eggshell head. Smells yeasty and spicy. Tastes like it smells with some pine. Fuller-bodied. Not bad, but a bit unbalanced.
3.5 Pour a pale yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is of wheat bread, tangerine, oranges, and coriander. Taste is similar to the aroma. Has a medium-light body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a mostly sweet, crisp, semi dry, medium finish. Overall, a pretty nice witbier that is a refreshing summer beer.
3.3 Aroma is lemon grass, citrus, banana and sweet grains. Taste is sweet grains, citrus, coriander, banana and slight bitterness that finishes smooth. Appearance is a gold hazy body with a thin bubbly head that retains fairly well.
3.0 Wit with a bit much spice and not enough beer flavor. Watery clove seltzer is about all I get. Thin body, and boring.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a orangish color with white head. Orange peel, coriander, spicy, yeasty, citrus aromas. A lot of orange peel, coriander, and spices in the flavors. Pretty easy drinking, but a little overly spiced for my taste.
1.5 Aroma of coriander, lemon zest and yeast. Very similar scent to Sam Adams Summer Ale, but has a fake floor cleaner quality to it. Looks hazy, cloudy, light yellow kind of like a hefeweisen. Tastes like a malt beverage, very bland and watery. I guess the alcohol is well hidden because you cannot taste it. The best way I can describe it is watered down lemonade. Completely devoid of palate. Don’t drink this, it’s awful.
2.9 Aroma of spices and tangerines, faint grainy wheat. Flavor followed, grainy wheat more in the fore, odd spices very prevalent (grains of paradise on the bottle), and citrusey orange notes very strong too. The citrus and spices overwhelmed the base beer style, imo, but it was a nice summer brew.
2.8 Bottle from sampler. Nose of orange peel and lemon. Malt, with some lemon and some light hops on the finish. Kinda boring.
2.7 Bottle from a sampler. Pours a hazy light amber with a thin layer of cream colored head. Aroma of malts and a hint of fruit. Taste of malts with a slight lemon hint.
3.2 12oz brown bottle. Pours out golden and cloudy. Fluffy and creamy white cap. Nose has wheat and sharp lemon, light clove sweetness. Tastes of wheat, yeast and lemon and orange peel. Dry and wheaty finish with some yeast and a nice tangerine note. Light bodied with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Enjoyable.
1.8 At a BBQ so red cup was only thing to use. Seemed a pale yellow with small white head. Aroma was lemon, cereal, hay. Taste was the same. Not impressed with this one. I’m finding Boston Beers offerings to be hit or miss and little in-between. Could it be that this was a offering for the masses? This seemed to be liked by those drinking the Corona.
2.7 Aroma is lemon and grain. Pours a hazy golden orange color. Flavor is lemon, orage peel, spices, and wheat. Light, airy body.
3.0 355ml bottle pours a slightly hazy golden color with a finger of white head that settles to reveal only a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is orange zest with some hints of grains and yeast. Taste is a light spicy and citrus hop bitterness with a mild malty sweetness finishing with some dry and yeasty notes. A decent brew, but nothing memorable.
3.1 Aroma...spice, nutmeg, orange, lemon. Cloudy yellow orange. Medium White head. Taste. ..orange, anise, wheat. a little watery. Feel, a little pasty, but not thick. Good beer. Not a true Belgian White, which is Not necessarily bad, Similar to Blue Moon Belgian White, with a bit more character.
3.4 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass. The label lists the abv at 5% and there is a short description of the beer. Appearance : It has a hazy old golden color with a tall white head. The head has good retention and lacing is ok. Smell: The nose has some mild spice and lemony citrus notes. Taste / Palate: Sams White Lantern has a smooth light palate with a light malt base, a hint a spice and a touch of citrusy bitterness.
2.9 A mass appeal beer. Not a lot of character. some spice is there. ok. An easy drinker.
3.1 5/28/14. One of a variety of SA beers given to me by someone at work. Was a nice light crisp beer. Nothing spectacular but not bad. Light enough that I feel I Could drink it all day and not get drunk
3.9 Bottle. Hazy yellow, lasting head. Aroma was less pungent than most Witbiers I’ve had. Cereal grains, grassy hops, and spices dominate the aroma. Taste was a very nice combination of tangy citrus and lightly toasted wheat. Perfectly carbonated on the palate with a very smooth drinkability. This is the first Witbier I’ve ever truly enjoyed.
2.7 Just a ok wheat beer not alot of flavor in any direction but is super light and drinkable did not think this was 5.5%
3.4 It pours a cloudy straw yellow with a large white head. It has a bread like aroma from the wheat and also smells of spices and citrus. The addition of tangerine peal is very nice. This is a nice refreshing beer.
2.6 Just another average beer. Drinkable in dire situations but forgettable in most instantaces.
3.0 Hazy orange color , medium white head. Aroma of spices, lemon and some wheat . Spices and citrus dominate in taste . Light bitterness in finish. Good for hot days.
