Samuel Adams Winter Lager

Samuel Adams Winter Lager

Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice.

The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is the deep ruby color. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor. On the palate Samuel Adams Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with the season.

2.5 Hazy. More like a Kölsch than a “lager.” The unmistakable taste of Fruit Loops, yes, Fruit Loops in this beer from mid-palate to finish. Not hoppy enough and a sweet finish.
3.3 12 oz bottle. Pours a rich brown amber.with an off-white head that dissipates. Nice malt smells with some spice hints. Malt and cinnamon and a dry finish. Nice winter beer.
3.5 Dark for a lager with an off white head. Caramel malt aroma. Easy taste with holiday spices. Decent palate.
4.0 Xmas 22. Nice lower alcohol Christmas bock. Sweet, spicy, and malty
3.3 Pours a clear, dark amber with a medium beige head. The aroma is softer, consisting of toasted malt, caramel, spice, and herbal notes. Sipping is both mildly sweet and bitter. Toasted malt and caramel are found on top, and underneath is cinnamon, bread, pine, and ginger. Easy ginger aftertaste. Its medium body and chewy in texture. Not a bad effort, but nothing here sticks out to make this one memorable.
3.8 Fantastic seasonal beer. Could buy a six pack of this. Samuel Adam's is a top 10 beer company
3.6 Slight spice aroma. Copper color with tan head. Good carbonation. Well balanced beer. Light spice flavor of orange, cinnamon, and ginger.
3.9 Tap in Ann Arbor, MI. Toasty and rich malt balanced with decent amount of alcohol. A truly winter lager.
3.6 Pours a nice clear bronze color with a light tan head. Smells sweet and malty with some spices. Taste is sweet some spicy ginger, although very slight. Overall a nice mellow winter beer. Fits it’s style.
5.0 Best beer ever. Wish it was available all year
3.5 Christmas lager?? tortilla soup
3.1 05-02-2019; bottle; at home (bought at an unknown location). The looks of the beer are nice. The beer has a nice dark amber colour, with a nice red glow. The beer is absolutely crystal clear. On top there is a yellowish off-white layer of soft velvety foam. Foam retention is average. A nice thick drape remains on the beer. Looks good. The aroma of the beer is nice, but it is a tiny bit mild. I wish the aromas would have been stronger and more robust. There are nice malts, that give some caramel notes. There is a hint of toast too. Hops are herbal. There are some hints of cinnamon. The ginger is there to, though very very mild. There orange peel I can't rally detect. The taste of the beer is good too. But, it isn't too strong. Sweetness from malts, with some hop derived bitterness. The spices give a nice touch to the flavour. It is well balanced. Not bad at all. But, a tiny bit mild. I'd like it to be stronger. The palate of the beer is fine. Medium light body, smooth texture and rather low carbonation. The finish of the beer has some nice spicy notes in it. The ginger becomes clear. Also some of the orange zest is present there. Again, it is not too strong, but it is nice. Decent beer it is.
3.8 Pours an amber with minimum head and a malty aroma. Taste is slightly sweet with no noticeable hop bitterness. No alcohol taste either or buzz so must be light in that category also. Had a 22oz glass at Applebee's last night. Very drinkable and a nice winter beer.
3.5 Decent winter ale. I'm a sucker for heavy herbs and this is a little light, but still very drinkable.
4.4 Absolutely fabulous taste! It’s got a great color, great aftertaste, and better than original Boston logger. This will be one of my favorite beers.
2.4 Found out of bottle from a variety pack. Lacking any significant or unique aroma and mild in flavor. Below average for the style.
3.5 Poured from bottle. Color is copper with a light tan and white head. The head disappates quickly. The aroma is of nuts and caramel . Taste is smooth with traces of nut. This is the best winter beer I have tried this year.
4.4 It is my beer of choice for the holiday season for the past five years. It’s better on tap.
3.0 I had a pint off a tap at The Bar in Midland a couple of weeks ago. Not bad I thought at the time. Bought a 12 oz bottle for a rating earlier today at Market Street. Pour into a chalice, what the hell, it delivers a nice optic, light amber-caramel with a sliver of light tan head. A smell of it, grain, candy, a little maltish perhaps. Now a drink, there is wheat bread, a touch of toffee, barley, some organic sweetness. I think I liked it better before, not a criticism actually. It is of the moment is it not?
3.9 Pours up a clear dark amber color, with a modest size off-white head and a smattering of lace. Malty aroma, rich with molasses and brown sugar. There are some faint piney hops in the aroma. Taste follows the nose. Molasses and brown sugar, with a hint of pine at the end. Medium-bodied and sweet. Much better than the ratings give credit.
3.6 Aroma of spice, bread, malt, caramel. Short tan head; short but thick and creamy; receding fairly quickly, but it leaves nice-looking lacing on the opposite side of the glass. Color is reddish amber; lots of carbonation bubbles. Attractive. Taste is spicy - cinnamon, with a touch of citrus (orange?); finish is mildly bitter and malty. The totality is definitely holiday & winter focused.
3.0 Underwhelming for a spiced winter beer. Decent fuller bodied flavor of roasted malt and caramel sweetness but a little light on the cinnamon and ginger.
3.1 Bärnsten. Söt. Bränd. Kola. Syrlig.
3.2 Ar: malt, spices Ap: amber, minimal head T: med sweetness, med bitterness P: light body
2.7 Pretty average lager with a little ginger and citrus flavor. Carmel color. Found in the winter pack.
3.6 Earlier Rating: 11/15/2018 Total Score: 3.4
2.0 Pours reddish amber with a thin white head. Slight malt and floral aroma. Taste is somewhat watery, spices and grass are present. Palate includes cinnamon and spices. Drinkable.
3.4 12oz bottle pours out dark amber topped with a tan head. Nose is spice plenty of sweet caramel malts. Taste is more of the nice sweet malts spice and some grassy notes.
3.8 Good winter lager, really good enough to be a good year-round lager. The cinnamon and orange aroma is pleasing and the mild malt sweetness makes for a superbly drinkable beer.
3.2 (bottle) clear deep ruby colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of hazelnut husks, candle wax and yeast, with a hint of turkish delight and some dark fruit. flavour is mostly sugar icing, bran flakes and old walnuts, quite starchy, with a touch of roasted malts and a semi roasted-bitter finish. medium- to heavy-bodied with average carbonation.
