Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout

Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout

This distinctive type of beer was originally brewed to withstand the abuses of shipping in foul weather to Imperial Russia. It was a favourite of Russian nobility whose taste for the finest food and drink was world famous.

A rich flavourful brew; deep chocolate in colour with a roasted barley nose and flavour that is a complexity of malt, hops, alcohol and yeast. Fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’.

4.0 355ml Bottle at home 12/08/2011 Roast aroma. Beige head. Carbonation. Black a little rich on the palate and strong in alcohol with lots of treacle in a bitter burnt roast and chocolate flavoured finish.
4.0 Aroma : Rich chocolate malts but only very light roastiness. Hints of milky coffee & dark autumnal fruits with a distinct alcohol note. Taste : Full bodied, ultra smooth creamy texture. Moderate to high roasty bitterness at first...much more roasty than aroma suggests. Overriding flavour is a rich malty chocolate throughout. There is a distinct drying alcohol note in the finish. Great!
4.0 zapach intensywny, ciemne nuty, palone ziarno, orzechy ziemne, lukrecja, melasa, dojrzałe owoce, czerwone owoce, cukier puder i lekki kurz w tle. kolor czarny, klarowny, pod światło rubinowy, głęboki. piana jasnobrązowa, dość obfita i trwała. w smaku intensywne, sporo kwaśnych nut palonych, palone drewno, popiół, czerwone owoce, melasa, wiśnie, z czasem nuty beczki i drewna przechodzące w zioła i piołun. lekkie nuty kawowe i lukrecjowe. goryczka umiarkowana do wysokiej, palona, piołunowa, lekko alkoholowa. po jakimś czasie lekko grzeje w usta, ściągające. nasycenie niskie do umiarkowanego, bardzo drobne bąbelki
4.2 What a great stout! Nothing to fault here. Can’t believe I can get it so cheaply; could easily pay 3 times the amount for the equivalent.
4.4 Bottle from Beers of Europe Pours black, small beige head, leaves nice top, some retention. Aroma of toffee, licorice, alcohol, blackberries, figs, roasted malt background, some cocoa. Taste is caramel, licorice, figs, dark chocolate, moderate bitter coffee finish, tingle of spice. Creamy mouthfeel, fine carbonation. Superb
4.0 Bottle @ Hugos w friends/Boilermaker.. Appearance: pours clear dark brown with good beige soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: caramel, coffee, chocolate, light alcohol, light dried fruit, light wood, light smoke, light nuts, leather and light earthy notes. palette: strong roasted malty aroma, light to average carbonation, medium to full body, medium to notable sweetness, balanced by a medium to notable bitterness, average to long duration, light dry finish and an oily texture. Overall: a classic
5.0 Perfect
3.7 Pours a brown-black opaque liquid under a cinnamon color head. A rich cake foaming Head, milkshake like in substance with residual lacing. Dark raisins and blackberry or raspberry pungent in the nose. Chocolate and non-biting to the taste. Subtly calming. Sophisticated delivery of flavor - finishing as mild on the palate.

3.3 Mörk öl ,len eftersmak
3.7 355 mL bottle. Pours black with a medium khaki head. Smells of chocolate, a slight acidic twang, and some light grassy and earthy hops. Tastes of hops right up front with chocolate and roasted malt behind it. Creamy with a very light lactic tang. Finishes with hop bitterness. Medium body. Distinctive in flavor because of the creaminess and tang, but very drinkable and flavorful.
4.5 Maggi + Nagellackentferner (chocolate, coffee, whatever) 💜💜💜💜💜
3.7 355 ml bottle. Pours dark brown color with brown head. Mild aroma of chocolate, licorice and dark fruit. Taste is roasted, grainy malt, a strong chocolate and dark fruit presence, with notes of raisin, plum and fig, lighter coffee and hints of licorice and herbal, earthy hops.
4.1 Stout con poco cuerpo y algo gaseosa. Sabor increible a chocolate y algo de cafe. Fresca para ser negra
3.8 Bottle online from Beersniffers. Pours pitch black with a medium sized creamy beige head. Aromas of roasty notes, coffee, chocolate and ash. Taste has more of the coffee, chocolate and ashy notes with some added liquorice. Full body with a smooth oily mouthfeel. Slightly bitter ashy finish. Nice old fashioned flavours.
4.1 @ Home - da GrandCru Firenze
3.5 Un peu trop agressif en début de bouche manque de douceur.
1.2 Gross, all these Samuel Smith beers taste a little funny, maybe it’s the well water
4.3 Another Samuel Smith's perfect classic... Malt forward aroma, with roasted grain, molasses, chocolate, dark fruits. Hops are neutral on the aroma. Alcoholic vinous notes. Jet black, low carbonation on the pour, a large, creamy, brown head, with excellent retention and lacing. No sediment, immacolate black. Very roasty-bitter, maillard products, chocolate, caramelised sugar, roasted coffee beans, dark fruits. Obviously malt oriented with some herbal (licorice) hop bitterness in the background. Bittersweet finish, with Maillard and dark fruits after taste. Smooth and creamy on the palate, very full and chewy, low carbonation. No off flavours or alcohol heat. Perfect classic example of styles from Samuel Smith, as always.
4.3 Muy buena cerveza, con unas notas a pasas, frutos secos, caramelo, café y vino. Un cuerpo muy fuerte, con una textura cremosa, persiste la acidez y el amargor al final.
3.7 355ml (7%) shared with Stuartyboy at home on 18 Jul 2020, purchased on 16 Jun 2020 (bbe Oct 2021): roast malt aroma, opaque near black, thin tan head, no lacing, chocolate, toffee, liquorice flavour, some coffee, creamy, moderate fizz, fairly dry malty finish.
3.8 Wyjątkowo intensywne, ale też zrównoważone. Dużo ciemnego słodu, niezwykle dużo paloności, trochę kakao i estrów. Dużo ciała, niskie wysycenie, niezwykle intensywny palony finisz. Znakomity imperial stout. edit: drugi raz pite robi mniejsze wrażenie. Mniejsza intensywność, mniej ciała. Nadal dobre.
3.8 Black with short brownish foam. Smell of malt, yeast and chocolate. Taste is malt, old port, chocolate, hints of coffee, alcohol and a nice bitterness to finish off. High carbonation combined with oily palate. Nice
3.8 Dark pour with fluffy head. Dark chocolate, some coffee, sweet roasted malts but also light and even a bit hoppy. Not a typical IS!
4.0 Dark brown, tall brown head. Leather and tobacco, coffee and a hint of chocolate. Dried figs. Intense earth and pine aftertaste and an elegant hint of smoke. Slightly overcarbonated.
3.8 Mild aroma of chocolate, licorice, dark fruit. Fruit becomes more apparent as it rests. Taste is lots of chocolate and licorice, then roast, and finally purple fruits in finish. Also some coffee notes throughout, and a good malt base. Another elegant, well-made beer from Samuel Smith.
3.5 Dark beer, thin beige head though it soon dissipates. Toasty malt aroma. Malt in the flavour, a little chocolate, liquorice. Toasty finish, a little boozy warmth.
4.3 Favorite Samuel Smith beer
