Samuel Smiths Yorkshire Stingo

Samuel Smiths Yorkshire Stingo

Bottle conditioned only. Previously 8.0%.
Some of the oak casks at Samuel Smith’s date back more than a century with the individual oak staves being replaced by the Old Brewery coopers over the years. Gradually the casks soak in more & more of the character of the ale fermented in stone Yorkshire squares. Yorkshire Stingo is aged for at least a year, matured in these well-used oak casks in the brewery’s underground cellars deriving fruit, raisin, treacle toffee, Christmas pudding and slight oaky flavours, before being further naturally conditioned in bottle.

4.1 Clear copper, tall white head. Faint aroma of iron brew and wood, raisin and plum. Taste is dried fruits, marmalade, caramel, burnt sugar and pine.
3.8 0.55 l bottle from 'Beer Republic', bottled in May 2021. Clear, ruby with a medium large, frothy, stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, gently fruity aroma of molasses, caramel, raisins and marmelade. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, gently fruity taste of marmelade, molasses, raisins, some tea, light vanilla and a touch of oak, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly woody-dry finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pleasant, quite elegant Ale, nicely fruity, quite sweet but balanced by a woody-dry touch.
3.5 Butelka. Mahoniowy kolor, piana beżowa, średnia, opada szybko. W zapachu dominuje słód, susz owocowy, nuty mokrego drewna i, karmel. W smaku ponownie suszone rodzynki i figi, czerwone suszone jagody, melasa i karmel,. Wszystko pieczetuja nuty mokrego drewna, lekkiego czerwonego wina. dość fajnie rozgrzewa, alkohol nie przeszkadza.
3.5 Copper pour, thumb sized head, rings of lace. Aroma of plum, raisin, caramel, toasted malt, banana. Raisin up front in the taste, lighter spices, caramel, musty oak. Medium body, maybe a bit light.
3.2 Nose offers a malty character which is accompanied by strong notes of alcohol in a weak aromatic. Very light notes of toffee and biscuit The liquid is coppery with an exemplary clarity. The foam is well formed and tenacious. On the palate, it is warm, fruity, with a woody and earthy character. Light notes of cherries, currants, on a woody and subtly caramelized background, developing a dry and slightly earthy finish. The taste components are very weakened. The complexity of the palette quite limited. The body is moderately round and the effervescence very calm due to its aging in cask. A little disappointed. The flavors do not stand out. 3.5 ( bottle) clear, fluorescent bright orange amber with a small beige head; aroma of orange marmalade; thick palate; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish
4.2 Aroma: toffee, orange marmalade, dried dark fruit, citrusy hop. Appearance: dark amber color with a one-finger beige fine head. Taste: toffee, orange marmalade, some citrusy hop, some dried dark fruit, reminiscence of honey, medium-high sweetness, medium bitterness Palate: slightly watery consistency, medium gravity, medium carbonation, soft dryness, well-hidden alcohol Overall: Well-balanced and tasty. While most of it is pretty much the same as Fuller's 1845, which is exactly what i expected from a classic English strong ale, it has slightly lower consistency and gravity and, therefore, higher drinkability. Oaky flavor as it mentioned on the label is very subtle, if any.
4.4 ruby red with fine particled white head. oaky very mild aroma, fruit jam. taste near-milk chocolate, caramel, complex cake, small peppery. oxidation. light tang. body is very fine, smooth, thick and creamy. first 5/5 body in a long time that i can remember. happy to have had this. a great celebrator. would buy again even at $5.40 a bottle. cheaper than what youd pay for a pint of trash at a bar
3.3 It pours clear ruby red; the head is off-white and foamy - dissipates quickly. The aroma has notes of: red-fruit jams, dark sugar, raisins, and rye bread. The taste is lightly sweet that finishes lightly bitter and slightly sour. The palate is medium bodied, with low carbonation; the finish is medium and bitter. Overall, it's seems like it has little direction.
3.8 Light opalescent brown with excellent foam. Nose: Esters, dried fruits (raisins, plums), caramel, fresh bread. Taste. Malt, dried fruit, wood, light bitterness in the aftertaste, and a little wood and slight hints of bread crust. Perfect balance in aroma and taste. By the end of the glass, you understand - this is an excellent beer!
3.7 Bottle online from Beersniffers. Pours an almost clear chestnut brown colour with a thin off-white head. Faint aromas of dark fruits, cherries and caramel. Taste has more dark fruits, cherries, caramel and added hints of vanilla, wood and leather. Bittersweet malty and hoppy finish. Full body, low carbonation and a very silky smooth oily mouthfeel. Nice Strong Old English Ale.
4.4 550ml Bottles from Vinopolis, Gibraltar 2023; Fenwick, Newcastle 2009, 2020. Dark amber-brown coloured with a thin white head. It has a very rich dried fruit, sherry and wine-like flavour with oak, vanilla and spices on the smooth, warming finish. Excellent!
4.4 550ml bottle brewed in England at 8%. Rich and vibrant clear toffee-orange amber, darkening and clouding with the sediment poured in. Smallish, shortlasting head. Woody citrus with faint fig, a complex orange resin aroma with a whiff of caramel, and maybe a touch of something else fruity, pear perhaps. Moderate- carbonation slightly thick consistency. Sweet, some orange resin and more than a little rhubarb-jammy, into a (salted?) caramel woody finish with a little dryness. Pour the sediment in for a more robust, slightly darker malt and mouthfeel and some added yeast fruitiness, as a touch of pear creeps in. One of Samuel Smith's most distinctive offerings, and a must-try for fans of barrel-aged beer. Connoisseurs of Barley Wines will also want to check this out, as of course will those of strong traditional English ales. Lovely and rich, just don't expect the oomph of some barrel-aged craft brews at five times the price and you'll not be disappointed. Rewards tucking a bottle or three away to age, as well.
3.7 Dark brown color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Caramel, dark fruits, nuts, oak, and slight booze.
3.8 55cl bottle from Beers Of Europe. Appearance - amber with a generous off white head. Nose - wood, figs and dates. Taste - figs confirmed, plus boozey wood. Palate - medium to full bodied. Good linger. Overall - lovely stuff.
3.6 Historical tick. Have resisted doing it but want to see how they impact my stats. Bottle at the Chandos, by Trafalgar Square. Good stuff.
4.0 Lovely oakey flavour. Very very strong.
4.1 Deep brown with off white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee, hint of vanilla. Taste beautiful with lots of flavour picked up in the maturation process - prunes, toffee, caramel making it sweet but not overly so. Low carbonation, hint of warming alcohol. Excellent.
3.5 550ml bottle from RusBeerShop in Moscow. Pours dark amber with a thin beige head. Aroma is malt, plums, toffee, raisins, oak, slightly alcoholic. Taste is medium sweet, toasted malt, toffee, oak, warming alcohol finish.
3.3 Tan head, surprisingly large for an English beer, over mahogany body. Aroma of alcohol and caramel. Taste alcoholic and sweet. Caramel and some roast. Would make a decent winter warmer
4.0 A delicious strong ale. Pours amber with a light head that resolves nicely on the side of the glass. Nose of vanilla, toffee, raisin, mild hops. Taste is on the bright side with a lot of clean carbonation and mild hop bitterness. It's an ale! The sweetness comes a bit later in the flavor development. As the beer warms it gets better with warm toffee and caramel notes while still retaining the effervesence. On the thin side, but not overly so. Very enjoyable, would have again.
3.7 Bottle. Amber color. Toffee and raisin in the aroma. Soft vinous notes. Malty sweet flavor with butter, toffee, hints of oak, raisin. There is complexity. Well matured with a velvety mouthfeel.
3.6 Pours clear copper with a creamy billowy head that holds well and leaves ample lacing; oak, spice, and apple on the nose; light crisp palate with a warming finish.
