3.1 330ml bottle (as Cerveza Negra) from Total Wine & More, Laguna Hills. Poured into a La Chouffe stemmed tulip glass while on holiday in California. Dark brown body with a ruby hue, thin head that soon turned into a wisp and collar. Malty molasses in the nose and taste, pretty sweet from start to finish, in fact one of the sweetest Dunkel biers I have ever had; good job I have a sweet tooth.
3.3 Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from The Beer Store, Nashua. Appearance is clear, dark brown/ruby read with nice sparkle, 2-finger width foamy light brown head with decent retention and trace lacing. Aroma is earthy roasted malt, mildly floral with European hops. Taste is strong brown bread, earth, honey, mild nuts and fruit. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, not complex and a little to the cloyingly sweet side, but flavorful and enjoyable.
2.2 0,3 litre Bottle from Total Wine Laguna Hills. Dark Brown with little head. A bit Sweet, Too little hops...
3.1 Bottle. It poured black with an off-white head. The aroma was roadted malt with a burnt coffee taste. It was mildly bitter.
3.5 Draught at Beerbelly 2 Tavern (Xinxing District), Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on October 4, 2017. As "San Miguel Negra". Clear dark brown color, tan head. Malty, some roasted notes, grainy taste. Grainy aftertaste. Rather fizzy mouthfeel, medium low bitterness. Malty, toasted scent. 7/5/7/2/14=3.5
2.2 Bottle. Clear, brown, frothy, white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, oily feel, soft carbonation, & astringent finish.
3.0 330ml bottle at home. Pours hazy chocolate brown with a thin tan, fading tan head. Dark sweet malt, molasses (lots of molasses), brown bread. Light carbonation. Sweet malt finish with some faint hops bitterness. Not at all what I was expecting, and much better.
3.7 Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a cloudy dark brown color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is caramel malt, slight hops and bread. The flavor is malt driven with a hint of bread flavor.
3.0 Butelka 33cl. wypite w domu, dzięki Andrzej. Kolor ciemny z przebłyskami, klarowny, piana mała ale ładna. Aromat karmelu, orzechów włoskich i delikatna nafta. W smaku karmel raczej wytrawne, bez fajerwerków ale dobre piwo.
3.7 Light and Crisp, with aroma of baklava, with chocolate caramel flavor... great for bbq
2.3 Bottle on Boracay. Tmava cierna farba, bez peny. Vona sladova, sladka, ovocna, karamel. Chut sladka, karamel, ovocie, trpka cokolada.
2.4 Tap @ The 1925 Microbrewery & Restaurant, Singapore as San Miguel Negra. Very dark brown, good head. Sour vegetable malt aroma. Sour milky toffee flavour. Smooth and creamy. Not a good beer. I just took it as I haven’t yet rated a Philippines beer.
3.4 A bottle from Jason’s near NCCU, drunk at home. Aroma: sour, bready, some molasses. Appearance: opaque, oxtail soup, minimal lacing. Palate: rather light-bodied, oily, soft carbonation. Noticably malty at the finish, but nothing spectacular. Taste: malty, quite flavoursome for its ABV. I would happily drink another, though I think I’m going down with a cold.
2.9 Draft - Molasses and dark sweet malts. Deep mahogany with a frothy light brown head. Sweet mollassses and dark malt. Dark sweet and malty.
2.9 Bottle at the Queen bee, Bangkok. Thin off white head. Clear deep burgundy pour. Not bad
2.9 Picked up a bottle under its Cerverza Negra alias. Dark brown, light bodied, chocolate malts, reminds me of its Mexican Negra ’cousin’.
3.6 330 ml bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toasted dark bread, brown sugar, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of molasses, toffee, coffee, dark fruit, slight herbal/grass, and roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toasted dark bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of molasses, toffee, coffee, dark fruit, slight herbal/grass, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toasted dark bread, brown sugar, nuttiness, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from hop/roast bitterness as well. Fairly clean on lager flavors; some light fruitiness and minimal off flavors. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a good dark lager style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
2.5 Dark brown clear beer with some head. Malty and caramel in aroma. Taste is roasted malt and slightly bitter. Quite Ok to drink, body is light.
2.3 Shared 11.2 oz. bottle. As San Miguel Cerveza Negra. Deep amber with a beige head. Aroma of dark malts, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruits, and alcohol. Taste is dark malts, nuts, and caramel. Roasty, acidic finish. A little thin.
3.1 Draft at the Queen Bee, Bangkok. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is light sweet malt. The flavour is moderate to strong sweet with a rich roasty sweet toffee caramel, liqourice bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.
2.2 Deep malt notes. Dark brown with a fizzy head. Deep sweet malt and molasses, no noticeable hop bitterness. Medium light bodied with a fairly cloying sweet finish.
2.1 Aroma: lots of malt but seems overly sweet/burnt caramel-y; Appearance: dark ruby red with off white head that dissipates slowly; some lacing; Taste: follows nose; too malty and sweet with unpleasant roastiness; Palate; medium-heavy body with long, roasty finish; Overall: not good; would not buy again.
3.8 Pint at bar. Not much aroma but dark and luxurious appearance, which carries through into a silky mouthfeel. Creamy and refreshing and well balanced, with neither the burnt toffee, the sourness nor the sweetness dominating. Solid example of the style.
3.0 Had at Orange Peel during drumming gig. Smells of heavy burnt malt, plum and preserved fruit, slightly herbal and some biscotti and booze. Taste is burnt malt, more bitter than the nose. Body is bitter, watery, lightly smoky and sour. A bit acidic but not bad considering.
3.5 Tap at Orange Peel for Steph's drumming. Black pour with big foamy tan head. Aroma is malty dark lager. Taste too - surprisingly rich and malty. Sort of metallic bitter lager taste underneath but not too much. Smooth palate but not heavy. Nice - way more interesting than regular San Miguel.
2.7 Bottle - 330ml. Pours a dark brown body with an average beige foamy head. Malty aroma with liquorice and molasses hints. Its decent malty/hoppy taste carries woody, roasted cereals, and liquorice notes. Ends with a short roasty finish. Drinkable.
4.4 Very nice foam, roasty and toasted. I like the color. Very dark brown black, with a coffee like foam. Taste is wonderful, bitter more than sweet. Full bodied and creamy. It is probably one of the best tasting dark beer I ever tried.
3.2 Bottle poured to pint glass very cold beer Appearance: dark, white head, a lot of lacing Aroma: scent of soy sauce, nothing else Taste: it is ok, better that other beers in manila Mouth feel: not very carbonated Overall: good beer for the hot weather in the Philippines
2.9 Dark roasted malt aroma. Dark brown ruby body, Head was faint tan a finger thick. Smooth light roasted malt taste with a hint of sweet dark fruit. Clean wet finish.
