San Miguel (Spain)

San Miguel Beer has been brewed since 1890 in the Philippines. A Spanish brewery, La Segarra, was created and licensed in 1946 to brew San Miguel Beer in Europe. In 1953 the Spanish brewery acquired sole and independent rights to San Miguel Beer in Europe, and by 1957 had changed its name to San Miguel. In 1991 Bulmers acquired to rights to distribute the Spanish brewed San Miguel in the UK. In 2000 the Spanish brewery Mahou bought the San Miguel Brewery, along with the European rights to San Miguel Beer. In 2003 Scottish & Newcastle purchased the UK distribution rights from Mahou, and brewed it in Edinburgh. In 2008 Carlsberg acquired the UK rights, and moved production to its brewery in Northampton. In 2010 Carlsberg reached a deal with Mahou to brew and distribute the 5% San Miguel throughout Europe. Mahou retain the brewing rights to all other European San Miguel branded beers.

European San Miguel 4.8% beers bought before 2010 are listed here. European San Miguel 5% beers are listed at San Miguel (Europe).

1.9 Pours golden clear. Aroma of bread and grass. Taste is crisp with some pale malt sweetness.
2.6 Nitro. Sweet corn and grains, a hint floral. Sweetish and mineralic, crisp. Nitro makes this soft and nice. Not exciting, but can work in the right place.
1.6 Can, 500 ml. I found the Spanish version of San Miguel. Many people think this beer comes from Spain (or Mexico), but it's originally from the Philippines when it belonged to Spain until they lost the Spanish-American war, so the island was American colony until the WW2. Unfortunately this is not a good one, sour aromas, thin palate, u can feel the corn inside, almost no aftertaste. No character, just an another beer flavoured sparkling water...
2.4 Lukt: typisk lager. Minner om heineken. Smak: mye lyse maltsødmer. Honning, ferskt brød Fin og lys pilsner. Bedre enn de fleste typiske lagerne. Saftig og "crispy" maltsødme. God på en sommerdag. 4,8/10
2.2 I drank this beer at some opportunities during my trips in Spain. The last time was in Madrid, just before to take the train from Atocha to Sevilla. Definitely, it is not a piece of art, this beer is a traditionnal macro brewery, a lager that you could find plenty through the world like the white mushroom that you find in summer on the fields. The color is yellow and gold, average carbonation, thin and white foal. The taste is malty, metalic, some hop and watery, not a really good sensation in the mouth, ok at the beach or to the chiringuito.
2.3 Nopirku the garden bar & grill.
2.7 Bevuta il 10/09/2017 @LakasbahBistrot in Benidorm (Spain). Alla spina. Birra industriale spagnola, pagata 2 euro una pinta. Colore oro. Lieve schiuma poco persistente. Media carbonazione. Odore quasi nullo. In bocca dolciastra, abbastanza acquosa. Tutto sommato bevibile.
Non ...
1.9 Anywhere in Spain. Another industrial pale lager brewed in Spain with light body, no character and watery final.
1.5 W aromacie słód, troche alkoholu i jakieś dziwne niezidentyfikowane zapachy, smak pusty, wodnisty, z niewielką goryczką. Z wyglądu bardzo jasne, klarowne, z zerową pianą. Ogólnie słabe, przynajmniej kapsel do kolekcji.
3.1 butelka 20.12.2018 r. Alkohol: 5,4% trochę inne niż w tytule, ale to dalej zwykły san miguel Aromat: zbożowy, czysty Wygląd: Jasne, przejrzyste, piana drobnopęcherzykowa, trwała Smak: lekko słodowe, nic poza tym, zero wad, smak dobrego international lagera Odczucie: bardzo nikła goryczka, dość wysokie nasycenie W sumie niezły lager
1.7 Draught in Lagos Portugal. Pours straw yellow with white head. Aroma is grainy metal, corn. Flavour is low sweet cereal with a metallic finish.
2.1 Pale golden color, very small white head. Aroma malt, corn. Taste malt, almost no bitterness. Light beer, but drinkable.
3.0 33cl from keg at Pitufos (Valladolid). Slightly creamy head for not a bad lager (important to have from a good installation), medium-carbonated.
Adelante! Ojo- tomar muuuy Frio!
2.1 Yaayy and another forgettable international Lager with lot’s of grain, Skunk and in particular sweetish finish...
1.9 Moved an old rating from the Phillipines version to this entry, as this is the correct one. Apparently, I wasnt impressed, looking at the rating. Although my comments can describe any pale lager :-) Original rate, tuesday, august 16, 2005: Clear yellow color, short white head. Aroma is a bit grainy, some hops. Light sweet and bitter taste.
3.1 Deep golden nice thick head. Aroma sweet malty, taste is refreshing sweetness with gentle bitter balance. Full body. Hint of citrus. East drinking standard.
1.5 33cl can. clear golden color. medium carbonation and low bitterness. bland and doesnt really taste much of anything
2.2 0.33 dose, Spanien - Strand. Ein massentaugliches Bier. Etwas herb, hopfig im Abgang
2.2 Bottle & Keg. I’ve certainly had this, with Spain, alongside France my most visited countries outside of the UK, but given it’s an undistinguished macro lager it’s hard to remember exactly what it was like. It always seemed better poured in its own country, but maybe the hot sun had something to do with that perception.
2.4 Bue en pression aux Canaries. Belle biere blonde avec gros col de mousse a fines bulles a tres bonne tenue. Carbonation nulle.
1.1 A bland boring lager. Fizzy and pale with a cloudy froth head. not much mouthfeel apart from fizz, taste is bland, with a lingering bread aftertaste I’m sure its better on a Spanish beach
1.8 Well…how do I describe this one without being rude. It is actually nothing wrong with it. No technical errors. Hmm well they might forgot to add flavor and aroma. Apart from that… Clear pale golden. White head. Almost no aroma and very light flavor. Medium light body and an ok carbonation. Moderate sweetness and a tad low bitterness. [Can from Ana]
