Sand Creek Wild Ride IPA

This classic India Pale Ale is wonderfully hopped for a strong start, a smooth finish, and a fine amber color.

3.6 Cloudy orange amber with a short, beige head. Scent is malt, caramel, orange-grapefruit. Nice bitter grapefruit peel flavour. Well balanced with the initial sweetness.
3.5 Super hazy apricot coloured body with a bit of an orange glow and a thick, six centimetre tall tan head - very nice. Aroma of grassy and very citrus-based hops with some yeast notes, a little sweetness and some more grass. Medium-bodied; Good balance of malt, yeast and hops in the flavour with a lot of emphasis on lighter and more soapy malts. Aftertaste shows some citrus hop notes, a little hop pellet flavour and a hint of a spicey yeast strain. Overall, a decent IPA, perhaps a bit past it’s prime, but showing some good characteristics and then a few not-so-good. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Ridgeview Liqour in Green Bay, Wisconsin on 29-July-2012 for US$1.89 sampled at home in Washington on 18-February-2013.
3.3 Great, classic IPA. Balanced hops provide the traditional bite without the brutal over hopping that is becoming the mainstay of the style. Read the other reviews for specifics, I’ll only be repeating what’s already been said. Very drinkable IPA form someone who’s not typically a fan.
3.2 Color is mahogany/rust. Lots of carbonation and generous head. Lots of particles floating after pour. Typical IPA aromas of citrus & hops. Tasty, bitter, hops & grapefruit flavors.
4.4 Very decent. Would love to try this again. Had a few sips, but they went fast!
3.4 Draft. Hazy orange, slight lacing. Grapefruit orange pine aroma. Big big hop flavor. Did I mention a lot of hops?
3.7 Bottle. Citrus, pineapple, caramel malt aroma. Honey gold/amber with a large white head, nice lacing. Grapefruit peel hops and light caramel malt flavor. Medium body and carbonation.
3.4 Bottle. Orange malt and orange/grapefruit peel aroma. Cloudy golden yellow with large off-white head. Mildly sweet orange malt and strong bitter grapefruit peel/quinine flavor. Extra hoppy.
2.3 Pours a cloudy light amber with an average dirty head. This beer has a bitter piney hops flavor and the grapefruit, pine and floral tastes are over bearing. This beer leaves a bad after taste and is very dry.
3.3 Bottle. Pours cloudy deep amber with a medium beige head and good lacing. Aroma is pine, bread, and caramel. Flavor its about the same, medium malty sweet, caramel, light bitter finish.
2.8 Bottle. Pours golden with foamy white head. Flavor is.light hops and some malts. Nothing stands out about this beer at all.
3.3 Bottle poured a hazy amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of bread, earthiness, grapefruit and light pine. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, earthiness, grapefruit and light pine with a smooth dry bitter lingering grapefruit finish.
3.5 Aroma is floral with a slight amount of fruitiness. Taste is pure floral hops beginning to end, with a piney aftertaste. Great body and mouthfeel. Yumm. Good but not complex enough to obtain better scores.
3.5 On tap at sloopy’s - dark golden with a giant frothy head. Peppery in flavor (like a rye), a medium body and a dry finish.
3.5 Chunky yeast, hazy orange pour, good frothy laced head, creamy eggwhites. Big tangerine manderine aroma, thats about it.Its large though. Taste is mild carmel mild sweet with a big citrus hop, fruity, slightly overcarbonated, tangy almost spicy.Long lasting citrus bittering.Slightly oxi diGood ipa.
3.2 Standard ipa. From a bottle, it seems to be fresh and the hop flavor is good, with a dry, herbal quality. Light sweetness.
3.3 Pours gold crowned by a small white head with some suspended particles evident in the beer. Nose is hoppy. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy. Taste is all hops, but not overly bitter. Hopheads will love this one. Pairs well with crackers and cheese.
3.5 12oz bottle pours murky copper – brown with tall near rocky tan head. The aroma is a little dusty and cedar spicy like and then some horribly muted pine notes are noticed near the end of the draw. The taste begins with spicy wood notes mixing with grassy resiny pine hop bitterness. Behind the bitter hops are thin rings of malts and blunted pine hop flavor. This IPA is nicely on the bitter side of the hop spectrum.
3.6 Has wonderful citrus fruit notes, light golden color. Taste is very bitter and on the dry side.
3.2 Very cloudy with lots of floaters. Hops and citrus aroma with slight malt. Clean bitter taste. Malt aftertaste with hints of fruit. Dry crisp citrus finish.
3.7 Pours hazy light amber with a finger creamy, chunky beige head that has great retention and leaves very nice lacing. Aroma is caramel, toast, cereal, floral hops, honey, citrus, toffee, overripe tree fruit, and a hint of planty hops. Flavor is caramel, toffee, toast, planty, citrus, piney and earthy hops, cereal grain, berry and tree fruit. Palate is medium bodied, creamy on entry, moderately carbonated, creamy, syrupy and lightly dry, chalky to the finish. Pretty good, the hop notes are a little more to the earthy, planty side than I typically like, but it has a more substantial feel and flavor profile than typically found in IPA’s at this ABV% level. Could be good or bad on that note, but right now I’d call it good. Looks very nice too.
3.7 Aroma is subtle floral with malt and hops. Pours a cloudy deep gold with a frothy lacing head. Taste is strong hops. Long strong bright and bitter hoppy finish with a lot of linger. Great beer, but I don’t think I could session it :-)
3.0 12oz bottle. Rating #179. Hazy golden orange pour with a small white head. Big pine and grapefruit aroma, slightly oxidized. Mild flavor, fruity and a little old. Ok stuff. (2172)
3.2 Pours a beautiful gold-orange with a small white head. Aroma is grapefruit & tangerine. Taste is grapefruit, but with a lot of pine bitterness that lingers in the finish.
2.8 Hops and a lot of yeast in the aroma. The flavor is hoppy up front, followed by a metallic edge. Not really bad but could be better without the metallic edge.
2.0 On tap at Old Fashioned in Madison, pours a clear amber/orange with a thin white head, the aroma is of old hops and oranges, the flavor has notes of dirty water and what trash water would taste like, (not that I’ve tried that before) thin mouthfeel, just a huge miss for me.
3.0 Bottle. Semi-murky orange pour with a small but foamy white head. Nice aroma of citrus hop. Medium palate. Taste is strange - there’s some citrus hop, but almost no malt or bread backing, so it tastes very bright and light. It has an initial hop bitter bite, but even that fades, and there’s a tinge of metal taste in there as well. Kind of disappointing taste given the nice aroma.
2.7 This beer is really pretty decent, but still nothing much to it. I like some more complexity.
3.3 Pours amber with a good lasting head. lots of yeast floaters. Nose is some some caramel malts but a nice amount of grapefruit and flawery hops. Good hop flavor and aroma. Dry. a little heavy on carbonation but it’s an ok IPA.
3.0 Bottle. Well, not bad for Sand Creek, no offense. It lacks in the hop flavor and aroma. Very malty and it has a slight metallic aftertaste. Not a good ipa, but drinkable.
