SanTan HopShock IPA

SanTan HopShock IPA

American Brewers have re-defined this traditional English Ale with an intense bitterness derived from the distinct citrus/pine character of Pacific Northwest hops. A dry, crisp malt character and aggressive alcohol make our I.P.A. a Hop-Heads Passion. 16.5°

3.1 Can, brought back from Arizona by Lalitha. Quite a deep amber colour. Sweet and slightly crystally sugary malt. Lots of hops in there and bitter, but I felt a lot of the flavour, especially the promised Nelson Sauvin, was muddled, lost against the harshness of the malty sweetness.
3.0 On tap at SanTan, pours a hazy copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of piney hops upfront, followed by dry bready malt. Flavour is not the most expressive in the hops other than a strong astringency. Dry biscuity malt underpins this. It’s okay.
3.4 Aroma of grapefruit rind, taste is light, hoppy, crisp finish, definitely worth a try, at bbq fest, arizona.
3.3 12 oz can. Pours a hazy deep amber with a light beige head. Aroma is citrus and pine. Taste has initial notes of citrus, sweetness and fruitiness, but the dominant features are a fairly piney bitterness and a substantial caramel malt foundation. It’s different than a lot of IPAs out there, but it’s decent.
3.8 Can: Poured an orange with white head. Aroma is juicy hoppy. Nice hoppy bite that has some soft malt balance.
3.7 Hey, alright! Digging this Arizona IPA. After the Boatswain IPA from Trader Joe’s, this tastes like angel pussy. Quite forward witht he hops on the nose and palate. Malt very well concealed as is the booze. Could easily be a crusher and that means solid times. Nice can design too. Label/Can Design really should factor into ratings here because I’ve seen some good beers with shitty labels and vice versa. Might prompt some sort of movement to grab the eyes before it grabs your taste buds. Rambling. Later.
3.3 Draft at the source. Clear golden color, thick head. Aroma of white pepper and straw. Taste is bitter peppery straw. Kind of old school.
3.4 canned, amber orange color with white foam, aroma is malty oranges, flavor is bright orange and grapefruit, some malty notes on finish , nice IPA
3.6 Deep orange pour. Bright, citrus nose with some sweet malts. Taste is bready malt with a bitter finish. Nice treatment of the English style IPA.
4.3 A good aroma on this IPA. The bitter hops flavor is too strong for my preference.
3.4 Jensen Beach, Fl - Total Wine & More - 12 oz can. Slightly hazy dark orange pour with a thick sticky khaki colored head. Standard spruce aroma, hint of apricot fruitiness, quite nice. Solid IPA flavor, requisite citrus bitter flavor, some caramel sweetness. a touch of apricot fruitiness. Decently thick mouthfeel. Pretty decent.
3.6 Can to mouth. Nose is lightly piney with some orange citrus. Green and red can. About a month old. Taste is moderate orange with some light pine. A moderate bitterness helps dry it out. Nice.
3.5 Tap. Pours clear Amber, large beige head, nice residual, great lacing. Aroma is busy citrus, some Bready malt. Flavor is Citrus, line, some butter, medium sweet, light bitter with a bit of a bite. Soft silky mouthfeel, medium body.
3.8 Golden amber with a modest head. Aroma is tropical with notes of pine. Not a great deal of citrus, but plenty of hop bitterness and flavor followed by a slight sweetness from the malt. A solid IPA.
3.7 Originally rated on 7/28/14. Pours deep orange hued body with a thick foamy head, good retention and lacing on the glass. Aroma is pine and citrus hops, with some malts sneaking in. Malty taste up front followed by a strong citrus, piney hops with a nice bitter aftertaste. Overall it was pretty good, not an upper tier but good.
3.4 Awesome golden copper appearance. Dry hop aroma taste is dry and bitter with lots of flavor
4.0 Can. Pours mostly clear amber with thin head. Nose and taste is citrus and pine. Some sweetness in the flavor.
3.7 Drank from the can from Safeway. Aromas of citrus and pine. Taste is medium bitterness with a medium sweetness In the aftertaste. Not bad.
3.7 Can pour hazy dark gold with copper hue and moderate white head. Nose slightly grassy and floral with mango hop and some sweet malt. Taste moderate grapefruit bite up front and again some grassy and mango. Light bitter finish. Reasonable drinking beer.
3.1 Can. Orange malt and pine aroma. Hazy amber with small head. Sweet orange malt and moderately bitter metallic pine flavor. Okay - kind of bland.
3.4 Can: Clear copper with a thick beige head. Caramel, bread, earthy scent. Taste is caramel malt, toast... Bittering is leafy, resiny...a little orange-peel. Pretty decent.
3.5 Sweet, a little carmael aroma. Very dry and hoppy. Not much to say, average but good and easy to drink.
3.4 Pour on tap at Phoenix airport, hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of pine, grass, some orange with a hint of lemon. Taste is a mix of orange, floral hops, spice into caramel, finishing bitter. Pretty standard, decent.
3.3 Can, Whole Foods, orange pour, white head, nose and taste are both citrus galore, some hops, bitter
3.7 12oz can pours a medium to dark copper with off white head. Nice lacing on the glass. Nice medium aroma of malts and a good citrus and pine scent. The flavor yet not over powering is a solid flavor of malt and hop flavor. Really like this one again.
3.2 Can in my hotel room. Pours clear dark amber with a medium, frothy off-white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is herbal, citrus, and pine hops with pale malt and pear esters. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness, light sweet malt and fruity esters with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.3 12 oz can. Red orange with slight of white head. Piney aroma, but nothing overpowering, some grapefruit. More pine on the taste, not my favorite kind of IPA, but still good.
3.2 Can. Pours golden amber with a white head. Flowery and light fruity hops, with mild sweet caramel malts and light bitterness. Balanced.
3.5 draft at hotel happy hour, decent, clean and hoppy, standard and decent ipa
3.2 Can bought from the store at the entrance to Grand Canyon National Park, drank at BDSB 3 weeks later. 4 months old when drank (shoulda checked the date!). Pours clear orange amber, offwhite head lasts ok. Smells of twiggy caramel malt, some citrus hops. Tastes sweet, caramel burnt sugar, moderate bitter, juicy orange fruit, some sweet tropical notes too. I can tell this beer was decent fresh but it’s suffered a bit from being sat for months in a warm shop.
