Saranac Big Moose Ale

Saranac Big Moose Ale

Saranac Big Moose Ale is an American Pale Ale with a kick. The medium-bodied malt sweetness is balanced by a nice crisp bitterness from hand selected centennial and cascade hops. Look for a vibrant citrusy hop aroma that will leave you craving another swig!

2.8 Simple, easy-drinking, no big flaws. Nice hop bitters and a little juicy citrus flavor in the finish. But, really lacking aroma, any malt flavor, anything to balance the hops, or any reason to spend money (albeit very little) on this beer.
3.0 12 oz bottle. Pours yellow with a short lived 1/2" white head. Weak floral hop aroma, secondary citrus. Tired hop flavor with a bit of caramel malt. Medium bodied with no noticable finish. Meh
2.8 Meh. The aroma is not bad; malty, slightly toasted some hops. Appearance is amber with a white head just what you’d expect. However, taste is bitter, lacks complexity, slightly malty and just a little unbalanced. The finish is totally blah with little more than a confused ending. Not bad, but probably forgettable.
3.1 Pours tea-like into the glass, lightly hazy, with a generous soapy head that leaves soap lacing. The nose is biscuity, light and clean. Flavors are of caramel, biscuit flour, pale malt, some tannins, and balanced with a lightly bitter back. A drier palate ensues, with active carbonation and a medium-light body. A decent pale ale here, but nothing overtly complex. Good for an after work offering, but not anything you’ll show off to your friends.
3.0 Bottle into a goblet. Pour is a orange honey with a lace head. Aroma is a nice low co2 with malt notes. Taste is not what you would think, its more like an ipa. Hoppy bitterness, great stuff. Finish is a nice bitter wash.
2.2 Draft. Pours clear copper with minimal head. The aroma Is caramel and light pine maybe. The taste is malt forward with light bitterness. Poor.
3.1 Bottle poured a red amber color with a thin cover of white head that fell right off. Aroma has caramel malt, grains, and some dull hops. Mouth feel is medium light and the carbonation a bit low. Flavor has Caramel malt, light hops, and grains.
2.4 Bottle Not a bad beer. Good head slightly dark color with caramel taste. Beer is slightly hoppy an not bitter. Has distinct caramel and floral flavor.
2.4 Cereal nose and a mild palate. Not unpleasant, but rather boring profile of oats, lemon and bitter pine. Very little on the finish.
3.0 Bottle. Minimial aroma. Medium amber color. Mild hop bitterness, not a ton of flavor. Not a bad change of pace.
3.4 Decent sized white head of fine bubbles. Very nice aroma with lots of floral hops, some citrus fruit, light caramel malts and some cheese. Color is dark amber. Moderate bitterness and dryness but backed up with some soft malts, lemon and cereal grains. Finishes moderately dry and rather bitter. No noticable alcohol presence. This is a pretty good APA.
3.0 12 oz bottle pours medium amber with a white head. Aroma of citrus, pine and toffee. Taste is caramel, citrus and spice.
2.6 Pours copper with a 1/2" head. Light aroma of hops. Pretty decent taste with a light to medium body. Smooth palate. Not bad, but not that interesting.
3.2 Pours golden brown with an aroma of hops and sweetness. Tastes hoppy with some spice. Smooth drink.
2.7 Ordinary beer with golden color and a very hoppy flavor that has a fairly bitter taste
2.7 Clear golden colour with no head, hoppy aroma and taste, smooth on the palate
3.2 12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of pale and caramel malts with a nice amount of floral and bitter hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. A pretty standard pale ale.
3.2 Pours a honey color. Lots of citrus on the nose. Some citrus notes in the taste, but mostly some bitterness from the malt. An odd, almost sour, finish. Ok.
3.9 It poured a clear yellow and had a big white head that clings well and lingers lightly on top. The smell is a mix of citrus scents with hints of pine, slight malt sweetness coming through. The taste is clean and very light, and not bitter. The palate is about a medium with some harshness on the tongue. Overall, this is one of the better beers by Matt Brewing Company.
3.0 Poured from 12 oz. bottle at the Headwaters Motor Lodge in Boonville, NY. Clear, medium-dark amber with 2-finger off-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma of sweet fresh bread, grain, floral and pine hops and caramel. Taste of floral hops, grain, bread, pine and caramel. Medium/light body and medium carbonation.
2.4 Ar:Rye, fruit-Apple. Ap: light brown. Ta: slightly bitter, stale. Rye. Thin mouthfeel. A decent beer.
3.3 Bottle. Citrus and pine in the nose, not a lot of weight but the fruit is nice, clear Cascade-Centennial mix. Dulled clear golden leaning to orange body with a short off-white head. Taste strongly bitter, a little rubbery with some mild resin but there’s some yeasty bread, too, which is quite nice. Earthy and pine notes, a little scratchy, fruit is subdued, malt is thinnish and one-dimensional. Medium body on the whole and a decent go.
3.0 Big hop flavor and hoppy finish. Other flavors seem muted by the hop flavor. Not a bad beer. It just isn’t my taste in beers.
1.1 Very hoppy grapefruit aroma. Pours a red gold with a white thin head. Pine-sol. Thin, lame, harsh, mop water.
3.4 Crispy and slightly citrusy ale. Unique hoppy notes with some sour fruit hints in the palate. Pours golden.
3.3 Great beer for the winter time. Taste is mild bit not to mild. Light brown mildly cloudy. Suggest to people you are just getting into seasonal ales.
3.3 Bottle from Winter Variety pack. Aroma is citrusy cascade hops. Medium bodied, reasonably flavorful, dry bitter finish. Slightly astringent.
3.1 Orange-gold body, with a full head. Has citrus, pine, and spice notes, with medium hop bite. I was expecting something a bit more flavorful but it’s not bad.
3.3 12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, ivory head, with some lacing, over a clear pale amber (SRM 10) body....nose is pine, citrus tending toward orange, toffee/caramel....taste is toffee/caramel, leading to pine, citrus bitterness which lingers.....mouth feel medium, carbonation medium. This is a reasonably balanced APA. It is not as heavily hopped as many in the style which makes it a bit more "English"j except that all the hops used are American. BJCP 7/3/13/4/6
3.1 12oz bottle. Pale orange color, white head. Aroma of hops. Loads of citrus hops aromas, dry-hopped on top of a musty smelling malt backbone. Sharp hop bitterness, pine resin bite. Finishes with the grassy hop character of my dad’s beer. (3546)
