This Brown Ale is brewed with American malt and hops, and traditional ale yeast. Look for a sweet, chocolaty taste, with balanced bitterness resulting in a full flavored but smoothly drinkable beer.

2.1Looks like brown ale. Tastes like water. Pours dark brown from bottle. Not a lot of aroma here. Or taste for that matters. Finishes slightly bitter.
3.1Pours bright mahogany into a shaker. Off-white micro head with good retention recedes leaving spider lacing to coat surface. Sour roasted caramel and hay aromas. Dry with toasted sourdough upfront and a sour roasted nut finish.
3.212oz bottle, came as part of the Saranac Mountain Trail Mix variety 6-pack ($8 at my Kroger -overall, affordable and fun, so far). This nice and malty, with a roasty chocolatey-coffee sort of taste. Woody was my first thought. The aroma creeps in slow enough that you can feel it’s progress, but it creeps in steadily, and the aftertaste lingers for a long while, which always makes for an interesting beer. Slight bitter taste, super thick and deep, but nothing astounding.
2.412 oz. bottle in a shaker. Clear brown pour with small white head. No distinct aroma. Mildly hopped beer with hints of sweetness. Nothing special. Not bad, but would not buy again. Very inexpensive... Almost comparable to basic macro price wise, but better flavor.
3.5Bottle from a mixed 6-pack purchased at a Price Chopper in Lake Placid, NY on 03/26/2011. Colour: medium to dark brown, depeding on your angle of view...and quickly fading slightly browned and thin head. Nose: Toasted malt, mixed candy bag, close to rotten fruit, mashed potato. Taste: Medium sweet, medium bitter, light sour. Taste has a touch of egg, but some fantastic suttle and long caramel and banana notes that linger for days.
3.2A - Pours a fairly clear copper-brown color with a finger of frothy off-white head. The head faded fairly quickly to a ring around the glass leaving behind some lacing on the glass.
S - Aroma is a blend of some nice semi-sweet caramel malts and a nice nuttiness. Little bit of tasted/roasted notes.
T - Starts off with some sweet lightly roasted caramel malts with some background nut flavors. Even a touch of maple and hop. Through the middle some nutty flavors come through along with a touch of sweetness. The finish is light and a touch sweet and is mostly of maple and toffee with only a touch of hop bitterness. Balance feels a bit off overall.
M - Medium bodied with moderate lively carbonation. Feels crisp and smooth in the mouth, though maybe a touch watery. Finish a touch sweet.
D - Very drinkable. Fairly crisp and smooth. However, it could use a bit more flavor and fullness. The flavors feel a touch off overall, but still enjoyable.
1.5Has no discernable Brown Ale taste to it, just water and dark malts similar to what would be in a dark lager, just not very good.
3.2Bottle. Pours a dark but thin purplish brown with medium fizzy khaki head. Aroma has a low level of chocolate malt and some raisin and fig. The flavor has some soft chocolate and crystal malt with a touch of fig. A slight metallic quality as well. The best part is the subtle dark chocolate in the finish. Also a touch of chalk in the finish. One of the better Saranac brews I’ve had.
2.9Bottle. Pours dark brow,. Minimal head and lacing, smells of maple, vanillas and sugar. Tastes of oak, malt and cake. Very sweet, not overpowering. Pretty good
2.9This was alright. Not one of their best. Dark amber color with a lasting white head. Caramel malt notes. Medium sweetness with a mild hoppy finish.
2.1This is a very average beer in every way. Nothing really sticks out about it and it’s not a great beer to drink.
2.4Variety pack try 2 / 6 - Pretty brutal brown ale facsimile. Water and metal predominate this uninteresting and insipid brew. Man, the finish and aftertaste are particularly brutal. What a stupid purchase. Will not make same mistake again.
2.8Decent sized tan head of verying sized bubbles. Recedes quickly. Nice roasty and caramelly aroma with some sweet malts and a hint of flowers. Color is a dark crimson brown. Roasty flavor with notes of carbon, bitter tea leaves and some dough. Bit of a pasty mouthfeel. Finishes roasty and pasty. An ok brew.
2.5Lace abounds while in his center a puddle of blotchy foam sits atop clear browns. A few cursory swirls produce no more and no less of a head and lace, but instead I find myself in the middle of sweet nutty goodness. Maple, caramel, red apples, almonds, pralines, and pecans rendezvous with some plump raisins for some good old fashioned fun I am lucky enough to partake of. I found his nose to be clean and crisp which translated quite well to his palate. Nutty, crunchy, and marked by crisp red apples that tickle the top of my tongue, the meat and skin play off each other for fruity pleasures and bitter skin refreshment that shines longest in the finish. Joining his bitter red apple skins are whole nuts of the almond and pecan variety, hold the salt please, while chocolate covered raisins lounge underneath. As the top of my tongue continues to dry, I ponder the wonderful drinkability of this beer replete with flavor. A side of melba mixes with the chocolate covered raisins and bitter finish to complete my Saranac Brown Ale experience.
2.6Poured into an English pint glass. Color is a dark brown with no head or lacing. The foam produced during the pour was small and offwhite. Aroma is malty and somewhat fruity. Taste is primarily malts. The beer feels somewhat like a sting on the tongue due to high carbonation. I don’t mind this beer but I wouldn’t buy it by itself. It works well in a variety pack.
2.712oz bottle bought in Norfolk, VA
Appearance: Pours a medium brown with a small beige head, no lacing
Aroma: Toasted malts and nutty
Taste: Toasted malts, medicinal flavors
OK
3.5Pours clear brown, tan head. Aromas of hops and malt. Nicely balanced flavor, not overwhelmingly bitter, with just the right amount of sweet. Excellent with brisket of beef!
3.0Bottle- Pours a medium brown with a small off white head that fades quickly tosome lasting lacing. Caramel sweetness with malt aroma. Starts with roasted malt, then mild sweetness and a lingering bitter finish. Medium body crisp that becomes fairly smooth and a bit sticky. Decent ale. Another good offering from Saranac.
3.0part of six pack sampler.. roasted flavor is both sweet and somewhat smooth, not the best example of a brown because the malts pertrude over the bitterness a bit too much... not bad though..
3.4Bottle. Mild vinous aroma. Clear brown colour. Small semi-stable light brown head. The flavour is roasted with a mild grainy finish, not bad, though.
3.0Straight out of the bottle with dinner, honey sweet smell and flavor with some toasty bitterness at the end, not bad at all.
2.7Poured into a pint glass.
A: Exceedingly dark brown, nearly black. Thick, frothy head with lots of lacing. A very good start.
S: Big on caramel malt. Some maple syrup, wood, and a hint of nuts. Floral hops.
T: Nothing special. Toasty malts with a hint of caramel and some nuts and wood. A little pungent.
M: Not this beer’s best quality. Very light bodied, almost watery. Carbonation is about right though.
D: Not a bad beer. It’s nothing special in terms of taste and overall quality, but it’s not overly boring.

3.1Clear brown, spongy tan...OK, I’m just gonna cut to the chase here - this is a tick, plain and simple. It’s about as average as a brown ale and get, and it was in a mix-6 pack. So sue me...
3.16pack sampler beer #5. Nice little brown ale. Not overpoweringly nutty. some earthiness and caramel malt. kinda light. this isn’t my favorite style but still drinkable.
3.2Reddish brown with an inch of frothy off-white head. Aroma is nutty with some fruit, and taste is a bit worty, but rather mild. Overall pretty clean and drinkable.
3.1Pours a clear brown color. Aroma is of sweeter malts, caramel, and slight nuttiness. Taste is of malts, chocolate, nuts, and roastiness. Has a malty finish.
3.012 oz bottle. Pours a reddish copper with a thin cream head; malty aroma with some dark chocolate; bitter chocolate flavour with some sweetness, but not too much; and an underlying bitterness to finish. A pleasant brown ale.
3.212 oz. bottle courtesy of my brother-in-law Mike. Pours brown with some reddish highlights when held up to sunlight with a thin-moderate off-white head. Mild aroma that is mostly malt along with lesser amounts of brown sugar and nuts. The flavor is about the same with malt, brown sugar, and mild nuts. Mild bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied. No problems.
3.3From a twelve ounce bottle purchased at Remeke Market (formerly a Bigg’s outlet) in Glenway Crossing - This brew pours a ruddy brown beer with a fizzy tan head of foam and a malt caramel aroma. Tastewise, it’s quite acceptable, with a slight carbony finish.
3.5Pours a clear medium brown-purple color with nice amount of frothy tannish head that lasts. Aroma is carmelized brown sugar, earthy notes, tad bit of smokiness, and a bit of squashed dark cherries. Flavor is a dryer bit of smoked jerky element with bit of sour lactic essence and dark fruit. Overall, I enjoyed this one. I waited till it got to room temp and liked the fact that it wasn’t overpowered by nuttiness as many browns are.
