2.0 Amber.tight foam.light frizzy body.some hops, dry, grains. Light bitterness. Auful beer
3.3 * Old rating, 355 ml, 2010. Malzig-süßliches Bier. Schöne hopfenaromatische Note, die etwas unter der Süße liegt, Nicht zu ausgeprägt, süffig-frisch. Nett.
2.7 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a clear copper color. There’s a little under two fingers worth of off-white colored head, and the retention is actually quite good. Plenty of lacing is left behind, as well. S: There is a slight hoppiness to the nose, floral in nature. But primarily, the strongest note is caramel and toffee from the malts. It’s certainly hoppier than most standard EPAs, but too malty to be a proper APA - and the malts aren’t the kind that strike me the right way. T: Looking at is as an English-style pale ale, it’s a bit hoppier than the norm, thankfully. Herbal, piny bitterness hits the palate first, albeit in a restrained fashion. After the midtaste, the caramel-laden malts come to the forefront. They’re the textbook crystal malts (blegh), and I don’t like them. Having said that, this is just dry enough where I’m almost not bothered by them. But damn, I wish this had even more hops. M: Kind of sweet...given how the last two Saranac beers were pretty damn dry, it’s disappointing that this has a sweeter, heavier feel. It’s not undrinkable per se, just not at all effortless. O: It’s honestly mildly successful as an English-style pale ale...but a failure as a ’Murican pale ale. I don’t even like (most) EPAs, so this one is a misfire to me. A tick is a tick, though.
2.8 Bottle to shaker glass. Pours clear amber, quick head, some lacing. Aroma of pine and caramel. Tastes about the same on the sweet side. Light bodied, medium carbonation, soapy mouth feel. Finishes lightly bitter with notes of herbs, caramel, pine and a little metallic. Average.
2.8 Saranac Pale Ale (US) - EPA - 5.5% 2.8/5 35 cl bottle, bb dec.2014. Copper color, short but lacing offwhite head. Hoppy nose. Aroma is sharp, hoppy with soap and citrus, yeast and burnt wood, yucky at first, don’t lnow if this bottle is too aged, but feels like homemade, alcoholic already. Taste is quite sour. Caramel malts and slight bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied. Quite solid EPA but not astonishing.
2.5 33o ml bottle from Tasty Life, Xiamen. Pours hazy amber with a dissipating white head. Aroma is malt and pine. Bitter metallic finish. Watery. Distinctly underwhelming.
3.4 I remember this being one of the first "microbrews" I had back when I was 16 as this was one of the few available. When Pete’s Wicked Ale was chocolatey hopped goodness long before they were bought by coors and reformulated to schwag. This pale ale is English instyle, malts offer notes of caramel, balanced bland hop profile gives a somewhat apple cider flavor. being an hour from where this is brewed and its mass production I will inevitably have this again when I’m stuck needing a beer and this is the domestic micro brew available.
3.1 Had over the summer. Reasonable amount of hops, lightly bitter. Light body.
3.6 Actually a pretty good pale ale. Nice lasting head. Aroma is caustic hop aroma... but still solid. Nice mouthfeel and actually pretty good flavor. As good as most pale ales out there a bit above average.
2.8 Stolen from the work fridge (yay!): Pours amber with a bubbly head and bubbly body. Aroma is toffee, detergent, some caramel, light hops. Taste is lightly sweet. Kind of nondescript. Aftertaste is light as well. This is easy to drink, but it is certainly not exciting to drink.
3.1 Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated and left some adequate lacing. The smell had some English malts up front (typical soapiness). There’s a light grassy hoppiness coming through. The taste was mainly malty and barely carried any hoppy bitterness back into the flavoring. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat smooth and tried to have some sort of harshness but even that was mostly hard to find. Overall, as an English Pale ale it works and honestly it’s not bad to me. Probably would have again with some fish n’ chips.
2.8 Pours a darker amber color. Aroma and taste are sweet with caramel. Average.
2.6 12 oz cam from Saranac sampler 12 pack. Smooth palate with a nice crisp finish. Good malt and hop balance.
3.9 It pours a beautiful golden amber color with excellent clarity. The head foams up thick and white then thins out to a small thin cap. The aroma is full of fine English hops that are floral and pleasing. The hops are up front on the tongue and give a nice citrusy and earthy character to the flavor. Malts are lighter and add just enough sweetness and toasted flavor to the beer. The palate is smooth with a medium body and a crisp finish that make it oh so drinkable.
3.2 Transfer from BA rated on 1-26 -12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance - Pours an amber, slightly red color with a head that faded quite fast to give just a bit of lacing. Smell -Caramel is the first detected with a bit of maple mixed in. At the end there is a little bit of citrusy hop aroma, not much, but a very light aroma. Taste - Sweet malt up front with hints of caramel and the slightest bit of roasty flavor. A very light hop taste, mainly pine meets the tongue later in the tasting experience. Mouthfeel - A just above average mouthfeel. A decent body and a nice level of carbonation. Overall - Its a good session beer. Saranac always does a great job of offering quality beers at a good price. In fact I would say they are one of the tops in taste to price ratio. Well worth a try. Serving type: bottle
3.4 Bottle. Very malty aroma and flavor. Almost like your drinking I lightly toasted piece of bread. All around nice beer
3.2 Ins Glas ergießt sich ein orange bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit ordentlicher Schaumkrone. Geruch leicht fruchtig, hopfig. Geschmack malzig fruchtig, leicht hopfig, Karamell.
2.8 Bottle pour. Rich amber with sizable white head. Solid lacing. Nose of caramel biscuit malts and soft floral hops. Flavor is tilted towards the malts, with just trace spice from the hops. Overall: average.
3.7 This is an excellent pale ale. Gorgeous colour, fruity nose. Bitter yet fruity finish. Grapefruit. Recommended.
3.8 Pours a fantastic orange amber with a lusterous shine and thin head of off white foam that fell pretty fast. Nose is bright with floral hops. Beautiful sweetness that does not get too fruity but just hints at fruit. A balanced herbal scent that suggests grass and hay. A malty sweetness that is grainy and a bit husky. There is a touch of mild soap on the nose but nothing egregious. Taste is lovely. Bitter. Hop forward without being too hop important. A nice biscuity malt with enough sweetness to rock those hops into submission. And a pungent little herbal to really quaff! OH! Finishes wonderfully and balanced well although slanted a bit toward hops. No presumption in this one just a slightly bitter tonic that growls a bit.
3.6 Thanks, Jacob, for the bottle! It pours a deep golden colour with a very firm 1" head of foam that leaves excellent lacing behind. The smell is on the sweetish side with just a bit of some bitterness noticeable to my nose. The taste does a good job of representing an EPA. Nice sweetish notes from the malt...not earthy nor grainy, just a pleasant sweetness. The hops show up mostly in the finish where it gets a tad bitter but overall, a very enjoyable brewski. On the light end of medium bodied, good carbonation, this is a well brewed beer. I like.
3.6 The color is a clear orange with a small white head, and the aroma blends grassy hops with amber malts. The taste is slightly bitter, a touch sour, and slightly sweet; the palate fuses a medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation, and lightly bitter finish.
2.1 [ Tap ][ He’s Not Here ][ 32oz ][ $5 ][ PET Blue Cup ][ 3/28/14 ] >> Pours light amber, good yellow foam. Nose is vegetal, soy sauce, Worcestershire. Taste is papery, lemon, toffee, acid, water. At least it isn’t nutty, dusty, sticky.
3.1 12 oz bottle from Steve pours a pale copper small white head Much better then the low ratings would have you believe Good session beer

3.3 This is a pleasant English IPA. The aroma is full of hops and not much malt. It’s a good looking beer with an amber hue and plenty of head. The taste is lightly sweet, again the malt is subdued, and the finish is all hop but in balance. The palate is balanced right for the style with a long finish and the beer is pleasantly drinkable. I have had better but I would gladly drink another.
3.0 Amber good head floreal light caremel medium bitterness Ambrata buona schiuma piuttosto persistente note maltate caramello floreale lieve cotrico un po stanca
3.7 12oz bottle pours a 1-2 finger white head. Clear amber/copper color some carbonation visible. You can smell the hops as soon as you pour it into the glass. Aroma of Floral hops, with toasted malt, Caramel and something almost biscuit like. Taste is sweeter than I expected with caramel up front then the citrus gentle hop bite. Finishes clean maybe a bit dry. Very drinkable beer that doesn’t overwhelm you with hops I believe that’s why many people leave negative reviews. Great beer for someone trying to move away from BMC’s and into to "craft" beers.
2.9 Had it on draft at Lovin’ Cup in Rochester. This is incredibly malt forward for (at least the current state of) a pale ale. To go with those malts is an unpleasant, musty aftertaste that really ruins an otherwise passable beer. Not a big fan.
3.4 Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: 16-oz. glass From: My aunt Jenny Price: N/A for a variety 12-pack Purchased: N/A Consumed: Jan. 16, 2014 Misc.: N/A Poured a caramel amber clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom. Great amount of uneven foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Very good retention. Smelled caramel, honey, wheat, rye, floral hops and cereal. Tasted caramel, citrus hops, pine, floral hips, honey, lime, faint orange, wheat and grass hops. Medium-to-light body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Astringent finish. This beer was one of my top-three favorites about seven years ago. Not so anymore, but I will always like this beer.
