Saranac Traditional Lager

A simple, well-made Classic American Lager brewed with only choice ingredients. It is extremely mellow - refreshingly smooth, glass after glass.

2.1 hmmmm, welll, its a lager I guess. Nothing complex about it. Im struggling with something to write about it. Maybe that was enough said.
1.9 Pours light and head disappears almost immediately. Smells of pilsner. Nothing too complex to note on taste. Unpleasant aftertaste exists. Avoid.
2.7 Lends itself towards a macro with a little more malt flavor. Still has that stale average taste with some hop bitterness up front and at the finish. still better than mass produced brews though."
3.3 From a 12 oz. bottle, no freshness date, sampled in a lager glass. Poured an amber hued golden with a large foamy white head, active carbonation, settled into a thin sudsy lacing. A faint nose of sweet grainy malts, floral, honey-like hops and lightly soapy. Dry, crisp, smooth light bodied mouthfeel, tastes of sweet caramelized malts and grains, lemon honey hops that provide a soft, brisk bite, refreshing, easy drinkability, quite quaffable. I’m not really a fan of Matt Brewing, but for me, this is the most enjoyable of all of the Saranac lagers, perfect for the muggy days of August.
2.9 It drniks like an historical lager. It pours a large head and shows pale yellow. It has malt notes and nuanced malt and hops on the palate. finishes crisp and clean. An upgrade from the volume brands!
2.4 Quite a pale looking lager. Aroma is a little toasty and fruity. Thin body, watery taste with just a little fruity sweetness. Easy to drink but lacks any depth.
1.8 Pours a light gold with a thin head. Some very mild sweetness in the aroma. Taste is somewhat bland and stale. Body is typical. It just really isn’t up to the same standard as anything else from Saranac.
2.3 xxx a drinkable lager, but i would not make an effort to get this beer, but drink it if its there.
1.9 Hot June evening--must be a lager night! Pours a Miller-Lite color in a pilsner glass...vanishing head and faint malt notes in aroma...back punch of sour malt in mouthfeel, a nasal presence in aftertaste....nondescript taste, no insult meant...refreshingly three parts removed from H2O...
1.5 Budweiser without the bad aftertaste. Bought this in a all season multi 12pk. Disappointing.
2.4 From bottle pours golden color with a fair amount of head. Smooth flavor, blends into a pleasant finish.
1.0 Bottle. This beer is Orville Redenbacher’s wet dream- corn to the core. Smells like corn syrup, tastes like watered-down corn, and finishes like corn. I would love to pop this into the microwave and heat it up to see what happens. Pass the butter, please.
1.8 As far as the traditional lager category, once again saranac is somewhere in between great and horrible. Not as good as a sam adams lager but way better than a yuegnling’s lager. Not as light as most lagers out there, but not the best.
2.4 Thin bodied, not very flavorful. Balanced hops and malts, just much too watered down tasting. Thanks but no thanks.
2.2 Served fresh bottle at a beerfest, fresh aroma. Yellow with dots of lace. Light mouthfeel, with somehwat apple juice taste around the malty backbone. OK for a lager. Even a bit of hops and for a cheap beer that transitions, it’s fine.
1.8 Thin wispy head of fine bubbles. Nasty pungent aroma of stewed tomatoes. Wow, totally tomatoe. Maybe a little cereal grains. Color is a dirty gold. I should also point out that I have no idea how old this brew is. I got it out of someone elses fridge and i have had it for a while and I have no idea how long they had it for. Flavor is thin and light with a little malt backbone. Only a feint hint of stewed tomatoes. Little bit of bitterness that lingers. This actually is not all that bad. If you can get past the aroma. Little sweet for a lager. Not one of the Saranac brews that I would want to try again.
1.9 one of the bottom end from saranac. golden collor. kind of sweet taste with hops
2.9 I enjoyed drinking this lager. Good flavor but maybe a bit too sweet. Very tasty after taste!
2.9 Bottle. Golden with a nice head. Aroma is a bit sweet and malty. Fresh and hoppy flavour with a nice maltiness, bit fruity. Slight bitter in the finish. Tasty brew indeed! Brewed since the very founding of F.X. Matt in 1888.
2.7 This is the weaker of the two lagers put out by this brewery. It pours a yellow color with a small, fizzy head. Clear, thin body, fully diminishing head with no lacing. Aroma is weak, with a faint hint of light orange and some yeast. Initial taste is moderately bitter, fading to a bland bitter finish with a short duration. It is thin and light on the mouth with a watery feel. Dry on palate. This is a beer better intended to be had with food, not to be enjoyed by itself. Reviewed on September 9th, 2006.
2.3 Amber with an OK head. the aroma is hoppy and slightly malty, but it’s like worn out malt. I get the same notes in the flavour, but also notes of fruit and a rather dominant grapefruit bitter finish.
2.6 9/12 of the winter variety pack. Just ur standard pale lager, but better than most macros.
2.5 Pours medium yellow with large, frothy, rather clumpy white head. Nose is faint cluster hops, lemongrass, sour mash. The flavor tends toward grainy malts and a sweetish adjunct note. No off notes. Quite watery, and ends rather abruptly. OK for a pale lager.
2.7 This is just a standard beer. There is really nothing at all special about it. However, it tastes just fine and is pretty drinkable. Really there were no offensive qualities to this brew. Wish it had more taste, character, or style. But alas these were lacking and we are left with a simple beer for a the simple man.
4.3 Had this out of a 12 oz bottle, to my knowledge this is no longer available for sale in southern NJ...one of the best smelling lagers i’ve had...firm body..nice foam...way tooo easy to drink...recommended serving...in the shower...:)..The perfect lager!!!
2.1 Not a fan of this. Their worst beer by far. The taste was not smooth at all. Has a terrible overall taste. I dont know how it could be that much worse than their others.
3.4 22 oz bottle via Firemoose(thanks!). Pours a clear copper with an average head. Aroma is delightful with notes of caramel, molasses, pears, banannas, wheat, and lager yeast. Tastes just like it smells with a fizzy finish. Well carbonated, medium body for a lager. Easy drinking and refreshing. Very nice sessionable beer. I think this would be a wonderful gateway beer for macro-swill drinkers.
2.6 Bottle. Golden colour with a white head. Aroma of grass and hay. Flavour is malt, corn and hay.
2.8 Cold 12oz bottle: Pours a clear light orange/golden color with minimal ivory bubbles around the edges of the glass. Aroma and taste are of light grains, hay, orange, some sour notes and barely bitter Smooth and refreshing. Lightly grainy ending. Totally drinkable American lager.
2.6 Golden brew with large foamy white head that subsides to some pretty thick lacing. Sweet mellow aroma. Really light bitter malty brew. Not very exciting but not a bad flavor. This one won’t stand out in my memory next week but I will finish this glass.
