Saranac White IPA

Saranac White IPA

Saranac White IPA is a tasty innovative twist on a traditional IPA. We’ve taken a delicious American IPA bursting with Citra hops, and given it a whole new direction by adding the refreshing fruitiness of orange peel & coriander and the softening characters of wheat malt and oats. You’ll notice the complex hop flavor you’ve come to expect in an IPA, balanced with the extraordinary bright flavor of a wheat beer. Cheers to twisting tradition!

3.1 Pours a hazy golden color. Aroma is sweet citrus and floral. Taste starts sweet and finishes with a mild bitterness.
3.5 Transfer from BA rated on 2-1-12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a very thick and hazy light orange color. The particulates keep light from penetrating. Has the look of a pulp laden orange juice, but only with a lighter orange-yellow color. When poured it had a billowy white head, which faded over time, to give a fair amount of lacing; leaves a fine film on the top of the brew. Smell – The nose is heavy of lemon and orange up front. A nice citrus hop aroma blended in with a very light wheaty and yeasty like aroma. The smallest amount of pine hoppiness is persistent throughout, but very low in comparison to the others. Taste – The taste is much of a Belgian wit although there is more bitter and sour citrus mixed in with some wheaty maltiness as the backbone. The hoppiness of the aroma is stronger than it is in the taste, leaving some disappointment in “IPA” portion o f the brew. Some pine hoppiness does come in toward the end along with some coriander. Mouthfeel – Creamier then comparable IPA of similar strength, with slightly lower carbonation level. Overall it does have a gives comfortable and soothing feel on the tongue. Overall – An interesting beer, although I think too much Belgian wit and not enough IPA. A bit more spicy and piney hoppiness and a little less lemon would be more for me.
2.6 Bottle - A white IPA with spices but I don't taste the spices I normally would on a Belgium white. Unfiltered beer so there is a lot if sentiment. Can't tell if this is from the yeast or the slices, could be a combination of the two. More of a hops flavor than I was expecting, citrus notes on the pallet.
3.3 Pours an hazy yellow with a fluffy white head. Faint aroma of citrus and hops. Taste is wheat, sweet malts, some citrus, hop bitterness.
2.8 Contrary to most others reviews I read, I don't really like this beer. Looks like a conventional wit (great) but does not have the sweetness, and misses the body of a true IPA. It's drinkable just a strange halfway house of a beer.
2.8 Bottle pour. Hazy peach color. Large perfume of apricots, lemon and cloves. Sweetish smelling, almost. Taste fruity, with some citrus hop bitterness and very distant spice. Like others from this brewery, high carbonation. A bit too sweet for my liking.
3.9 A great blend of the sweet refreshing white ale with the full bodied hoppiness of an IPA. So many IPA’s are so hoppy that thet are difficult to drink. The wheat malt really soften it.medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, medium body, soft carbonation, pale, hazy, white foam,
3.5 Bottle. Really pale golden pour, small white head. Floral nose, nice floral hoppy taste. Notes of wheat. Average carbonation. Decent IPA with a twist.
3.9 Ipa veramente gustosa, con una luppolatura intensa e agrumata, con note di lievito e una percepibile sfumatura citrica. Ottima.
3.3 pale golden hazy good head citrus light spicy medium bitterness medium citric note yeasty
3.5 12 oz bottle from Steve MMM white ipa it was pretty good I need to find some more of these
3.4 Bottle (in Sept 2012) - Cloudy Orangey gold in colour. Sedimented; wheat. Fruity; orange citrus and some grapefruit. Spicy. Malty; wheaty and bready malts. Hoppy; resiny hops. Sweet wheaty malts and fruit balanced by hop bitterness. Refreshing. Interesting beer. Witbier meets IPA. Decent.
3.9 Pours a hazey gold. Smells of wheat , hops and orange peel . Flavor is more leaning towards the citrus side with a touch of hops. This would be a fine summer brew. It’s early spring with 70s in VA, and I find this beer delightful. Cheers!
3.3 Bottle into pint glass at Bonefish Grill. Cloudy orang’ish-yellow color with white head. Aroma of wheat, bread, slight spices and some citrus notes. Taste brings out more IPA fruity hop bitterness, coriander and slight pepper. Light body, moderate carbonation, creamy, soft, crisp with dry crisp finish. Pretty much a wheat beer with spices and more hops. Interesting and easy drinking.
3.8 12oz. bottle poured into a glass Appearance: Golden yellowish-orange, Cloudy (its unfiltered) with just about a 2 finger white head. Leaves good lacing. Smell: You get the citrus hops, lemon, orange peel, spices, and some wheat. Taste: More of the orange in the flavor, then a bit of wheat, with the citrus hops to finish. A bit sweet up front with a bitter finish. The spices help dull out the hop bite makes for a fairly refreshing flavor I truly was surprised. Mouthfeel: fairly smooth Medium body with Medium carbonation. Citrus flavors linger in the finish. Overall: Very good beer. I enjoyed it way more than I thought. Its nice to be surprised in a good way. Perfect for Spring/Summer!
3.8 Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: 16-oz. glass From: My aunt Jenny Price: N/A for a variety 12-pack Purchased: N/A Consumed: Jan. 17, 2014 Misc.: N/A Poured a golden stray hazy color with 1-to-2 fingers of white head. Very good uneven lacing on the sides. Great retention on the top of the glass. Smelled floral hops, caramel malts, Belgian spices, citrus hops, lime and slight pine. Tasted floral hops, citrus hops, lime, pine, caramel, tropical notes, Belgian spices and Mountain Dew. Light body. Oily texture. Above average carbonation. Long, citrus finish. A very nice IPA. I really liked this one.
4.1 Good beer, not very heavy for an IPA which is surprising. Good with pizza. Would definitely buy again.
2.4 Pours a cloudy yellow with a slight citrus aroma. Taste is mildly bitter mixed with diluted spices. The citrus hops mixed with the spic gives this beer an odd taste. There is a small bitter aftertaste after the swallow, but overall its a refreshing beer.
3.1 16 ounce pint - $6.50 at Taco Mac in Woodstock, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a dim, clouded, golden-orange body with a half-inch of white head. Good lacing. Smell: Pithy lemon overneath scantly bready wheatiness, low resins, low spices. A bit of a modest aroma overall. Taste: Soft white wheat, a slight graininess and a nibble of brioche. Lightly sweet. Resins, lemon and a pithy quality. Small pinch of spice. Medium bitterness. Drying, pith-rimmed finish with a hint of lemon juice moistened bread. Some bitterness lingering. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Overall: It’s okay, like many Saranac beers (the better ones at least) it just falls a bit short.
3.5 Birra di frumento. Torbida. Lieve profumo di luppolo e grano. Medio bassa la carbonazione. Dolce al palato. Corpo leggero. Retro gusto leggermente amaro
2.9 Didnt like this rather experimental brew from Saranac. Lots of spices and citrics in the aroma. Coriander being the most predominant. Some dough in the taste but overly sweet and wheaty for the rest. Corny, earthy palate. Med bodied and very frizzy. Small white head.
3.1 Cloudy straw colored beer with a thick foamy white head. Nice citrus nose with burnt orange, coriander, and lemon pith. Flavor is pretty much what you’d expect for a WIT with a bracing citrus hoppiness followed by a bit of spice with a crisp, dry finish. Decent beer for the style, but not one that differentiates itself.
3.2 On tap at mojos on Bald Head Island. Light golden color with a nice fluffy head, the hops are crisp and funky, just the wheat makes it seem a little thin.
4.0 Hazy yellow/orange/white, not great to look at. Makes up for it in the aroma, nice orange notes. More orange in the flavor and some grainy tanginess. Not particularly bitter, so avoid if you buy into the whole BRÜTAL PALATE DESTROYER fad of over hopped beer. The palate is one of the best I have ever had. Smooth, thick, and delicious. Lingering citrus notes leave a pleasant aftertaste. Draft pour.
3.1 Poured from bottle. Aroma of hops, malt and ocean. Cloudy gold, thin white head with some lacing. Floral and citrus hops, some creamy malt, pepper. Aftertaste is off - not sure what it is, but it doesn’t taste right and hurts this beer. Too bad cause this could be a great beer.
3.2 12oz Bottle. The pour was a murky straw yellow with an average (1-2 finger) white creamy head that was mostly lasting, reducing to a thin puddled film and medium collar with excellent sheets of lacing. The aroma was of a light grain malt, resin and citrus hops and a sweaty Belgian yeast with a note of citrus (grapefruit and orange peel) and a bit of coriander. The taste was lightly sweet and fruity with just a touch of spice early on, progressing with a nice citrusy hoppy taste, along with a strong grainy yeast presence and a citrus peel bite towards the finish. The flavor hung around for a good long time following the swallow with the bitter citrus peel taste fading ever so slowly off the taste buds. Mouthfeel was a couple steps beyond light in body with a dry, creamy texture and a medium carbonation. Overall this was a tasty and well balanced brew with a pleasing spicy citrus favor and a nice creamy drinkability... www.facebook.com/KAJIIsBeerReviews
2.3 Bottle: Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a creamy white head. Aroma is slight pine... citrus. Tastes citrusy...but not in a really good way... the wonderful yeasty character of the wheat beer is competing with the hops too much I think... Improved a bit as I was drinking it, but not an awesome beer. Nice idea... but I’m not sure the styles were meant to mingle.
3.0 (bottle) pours a murky golden colour with a frothy white head. aroma of coriander, thyme, wheat, herbal hops, nettles and light peppermint. flavour is mostly wheat, yeast, light coriander and gooseberries, with a hint of bread dough and herbal hops in the light-bitter finish. light-bodied with average carbonation.
3.2 On tap @ The Pony NYC. Really cloudy almost hazy orange golden in the glass and it has a small quickly islandy off-white top. Smells OK with a little fruitiness, a good dash of hops and a little buzz of grapefruit and grapefruit zest. Lots of hops here, lots of citrussy flavors. Mild oily on the mouthfeel and the carbonation is just below average. Light grassy and also light dry in the finish. Quite easy to drink, nothing spectacular but still quite good. 19.06.2013
