Scheldebrouwerij Dulle Griet

Our brunette is a lady who stands up for herself, but who is tameable despite her powerful aromas. Her sweet scents of licorice and candied sugar combine well with a mouth full of fruit and spices. This fiery flame has a sharp character but is mild in dealing with her, a woman after our heart.

Her name refers to the powerful, red cannon of the citizens of Ghent which was used to effect in the fight against the Spaniards.

3.5 Foggy deep brown, moderate ivory head. Nose: moderately intense fruity and spicy yeast, caramel and toast. Medium body. Taste: rather dry, initially malty and yeasty. Caramel, toast, spice, dried fruit, hop, some alcohol. The latter two are responsible for pronounced and somewhat harsh bitterness.

Inviting aroma of raisin, red grapes, plum & peach, caramel, marzipan, cookie dough, frangipane, 'carré confiture'. It tastes medium malty sweet, hints of plum & caramel, touch of almond, and light herbal bitter, some 'spicy licorice', very mildly toasted. Dryish, spicy, herbal hoppy finish, lingering caramel & red fruitiness. Medium body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Well executed, nice stuff.

Au nez : des notes malts caramel , un peu de levure et légèrement torréfié. En bouche : c’est bien le malts caramel qui est la base . C’est toute en finesse un peu trop même. Seulement des notes , malts caramel et malts torréfié. Un note chocolaté très léger. Un peu de pruneaux. Correct

3.5 0.33l bottle a Braai Tapperij de Mug. This one pours a deep a dark amber red mild cloudy looking body. On the top there’s a big lasting and mildly lacing beige head. Lots of sweet caramelly dark sugars. I get tones of red dark fruits, some red sweet apple. Dark candied sugars and a little Belgian. Smells nice. Tastes really good actually. The first thing I get is vanilla and there’s lots of sweet nice caramel in here. It has a mild oily texture in the mouth and it’s just about average on the carbonation. Smooth in the taste. Ends with more dark dried berries and fruits. Long burp. Really easy to drink and easy to like - especially after a long day traveling. 07.03.2017

2.9 33cl-fles bij broer Niels thuis. U: Wazig donkerbruin met robijnrode gloed met dunne beige schuimkraag. G: Chocolade, karamel en gist. S: Zoet met een lichte moutbitterheid. Chocolade, karamel, suiker en een tikje metallisch. Valt wat licht uit. M: Nogal weinig body en medium carbonatie.

2.2 Een uitstekende brouwerij, maar geen best bier. Onwijs slap, licht zurig en weinig spannends. Ik snap niet dat men dit een succes vond.
