Scheldebrouwerij Mug Bitter

Scheldebrouwerij Mug Bitter

Mug Bitter is a top fermented, amber-coloured beer of 5% ABY, made from pale malt and Caramalt 20 and richly hopped with Hallertau, Goldings and Challenger hops.

The beer's character is best expressed in the old saying: "Geen smaeck zo soet als 't Zeeuwse Bitter doet" (Nothing tastes as sweet as the Bitter from Zeeland).

Its hoppy and fruity aroma and well-balanced bittersweet flavour places this beer in a league of its own!

3.3 Nice bitter taste, but this beer lacks body and has a very short finish. For a special beer it’s not very special.
3.4 Dry, light orange, smooth, easy drinkable, wooden, Dutch, Zeeland, bitter, The Netherlands
3.2 Bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch malzig, getreidig, Karamell, Citrus. Geschmack malzig bitter, Karamell, leicht schokoladig.
3.3 A nice hoppy and fresh beer! A sharp taste with a smooth aftertaste. A great nose and a beautiful blond color.
3.5 Regular bitter beer. Not very special, but thirst quenching and fresh. Liked it.
3.4 On tap at Cafe Mug, Middelburg, Netherlands, Wednesday 2nd October 2013 Pours gold with a light gaze, slim white head atop. This is a nice bitter, a little minerally, nice malty base, Soft in mouth, lasting bitterness, tasty decent beer. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4
2.6 bottle at home. fruity aroma, very narrow palate, dry bitterness, taste disappears very quickly
3.1 Tap at Bierfestival, Haarlem’13: Clear amber coloured brew with an decent fruity bitter taste, thirstquencher for the summer.
2.5 Droog bitter biertje. Wat wel fijn weg drinkt. Mooie licht gouden kleur. Bier met zee schuim.
3.1 shared bottle, hazy orange color, small white head. smell of honey and yeast. but a bit dry, wood flavour. light bitterness which fades fast.
3.1 Bottle from Cafe De La Gare, Den Haag. Poured a crystal clear medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is yeasty with a little malt. The flavour is medium bitter, malty, with a little grassy hop and a slightly watery palate. Not one of the better beers from this brewery.
3.1 Bottle. Aroma is bready, yeasty and some fruits. Quite fizzy and medium bitterness. Medium body with lively carbonation
3.2 bottle at home ... hazy amber ... thin white head ... soft sweet fruit ... light yeasty nose ... light fizz ... soft sweet bananan fruits ..light salty breadyness
3.0 Poured a slightly cloudy golden with a small frothy white head. Aroma of roast malt and chocolate, spices and some citrus. Medium, smooth body, flavour of red fruits, dry and bitter with a lingering bitter aftertaste.
3.2 Bottle. Pours hazy golden with a medium white head. Aroma with some citrus, yeast and spices. Taste is sweet with some biscuit, spices, citrus and a soft bitter finish. Quite thin body with medium carbonation.
3.4 Honey blond. Yeasty, toasty & fruity nose. Ripe fruits, bready notes. Medium-bodied, Palate is yeasty, malty, a bit hoppy with notes of hay and green appels. Bitter aftertaste, B@H
2.7 draft @ Delirium.
2.9 Draft. Pours a clear, yellow colour with a small, white head. Aroma of dry fruits and hops. Flavour is nice bitter, not too overly bitter, just well balanced. Refreshing thirst quencher, nice session beer.
3.0 Bottle. Cloudy dark yellow/amber body. Medium head. Yeasty aroma with some dry hops. Dry hoppy taste in a smooth body. Quite hoppy finish for a Belgian blond ale (According to Ratebeer this is a Premium Bitter? Uh?). Decent but apart from the dryness nothing else really stands out.
3.5 Tasting from back in 2008. Bottle; just on cool and into a shaker. 5 out of 5 for appearance. Towering 2 inches of foam that is steadfast and manages a wicked lace. Whispily hazy ’Lucozade’ orange body with many fine streams of bubbles. Aroma has just a little savoury fruit to balance some sticky toffee, marmalade and fresh baked bread notes. initially it is quite lively, bouncy in mouthfeel; the body unexpectedly light. The carbonation wanes rapidly to reveal licks of caramel, doughy yeast and spicy, sweet marmalade. A little tending towards the sweeter side but the flavour is complimented by a mix of floral, pine-nut and bitter orange notes in back. Long finish is more herbal and floral drying out somewhat from the tangy palate. Has a little Belgian yeast twist come through late into drinking that i thought odd but worked. Overall it’s a tasty drop; not exactly a showstopper but pleasing either way. (33cL, BBE 02/09, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville)
3.2 On tap @ the Braai Tapperij de Mug. This is a golden lightly blurry one with a nice dense, heavy lacing just off-white head. It has a light yeasty and fruity aroma, I get some leafs, sweetness and hints of melon. Nice. It’s average carbonated and it has a soft oily texture. Mildly bitter in flavor (as the name suggest), I get some more leafy tones in the flavor as well, mild grassy and it also has a hint of yeasty-melon. Not bad, a bit boring perhaps, but not bad tasting. 29.05.2012
3.6 Cloudy, ambery yellow, medium head. Fruity, spicy, sweet nose. Taste is more spice, citrus, some yeasty notes thrown in. Bitter finish with some sour notes and vague spice. Creamy smooth mouthfeel.
2.3 Aroma: caramel from malt, and some herbal from hops. Golden, with some hazyness and short lasting white head. No bitternes founded as it was expected. Medium body, sparkly at the begining, and almost dead at the end of the glass.
2.6 caramel, bread, earthy, golden, hazy, frothy, white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, slick feel, average carbonation, Not very outspoken or special
2.9 Bottle. Clear golden color, poor foam. The aroma has spices, yeast, honey and citrus, some orange hints as well. The flavor is sweet, spices, yeast, some citrus and little bitterness.
1.9 33 cl. bottle @ home – purchased at Beer Planet after some previous excitement about some other Schelde-beers, appearance is a hazy, sickly & stale orange with a white head, smells like grains, dishwashing liquid lemon and some absolutely terrible hops & malts, taste is no better vile bitter pale lager/pilsner malt, dishwashing liquid, airrefresher lemon zest, metallic, rotting floral & worse hops, vile hops, bitter in a highly unpleasant way, in no way is this a bitter & craft or not this as bad if not worse than the macro fizzy yellow beers, fizzy body, plain terrible
2.8 (33 cl bottle) Light amber, hazy color. A lot of sediment. Aroma is grainy, with spicy hops, a hint of cooked vegetables, yeasty. Taste is not as bitter as I had expected, still medium bitter. Not sweet. Medium carbonation. Ok.
3.1 i’d been wanting to taste this beer since a somewhat unsuccessful trip to schelde with eczematic back in ’02. and i imagine at that time i would have been pretty thrilled with it. nowadays, it passes for an adequate bitter - bright amber, flat head, floral and grassy but somewhat generic aroma; low carbonation and low levels of flavour with just a bit of grassy bitterness. my bottle was apparently made in belgium...
