3.5 Note: pretty old bottle. Dark brown liquid, large head. Aroma of malt, smells old. Medium body, average carbonation. Taste is old, a bit sweet, bitter.
3.8 330ml bottle from a shop in Amsterdam and drunk on 10/04/2007. Really nice stout. There’s definitely that hint of slight briney, fishiness. Thick and a bit smokey too.
Ruikt melkachtig, licht koffie, smaakt idem. Vrij zoet, bittere nasmaak. Vrij vlak van smaak.
3.5 Black beer with a decent head. All the typical teastes like coffee, chocolate caramel and some raisins.Unfortunaltely the tastes do last but not very long. I've had (much) better examples of this style but all of them were (much) higher in alcohol and (much) higher in price. I'll have this again.
3.0 Gusto caramello e liquiriziq, poco dolce con coda acidula. Schiuma persistente, colore nero.
3.2 Dark brown with an off white head that doesn’t las long enough. Aroma of roasted grain. Taste has elements of coffee and liquorice with a hint of salt. Bitter finish.
3.9 Very dark brown body with a nice, everlasting, frothy and creamy-like beige head. Aroma is licorice, dark bread, soy sauce. Taste starts somehow sweet, with fruity notes (plums), roasted malts, milk chocolate and some licorice. Medium malty (roasted) notes. Medium to full body, soft to lively carbonation, oily texture.
3.4 From the bottle. Brown with a thin, frothy head that fades completely. Aroma is roasted grains, toast, licorice. Taste is mildly sweet up front with plum jam and caramel overtones. Goes down with an increasing tartness but ends up mildly bitter and a touch salty. Medium body with a light and fading carbonation. Okay.
4.1 Bottle. Clear dark brown color, fine, thick, beige lasting head. Nice aroma, bread, toffee, roasted barley. Dry taste, medium bitter, maybe a hint acrid. Chocolate, toffee, coffee aftertaste, is there a whisper of salt, I'm not sure. Medium carbonation, full body. Nice stout, just as I like it.
3.2 Copenhagen 13/12 2018. 33 cl bottle from Den Gamle Købmand, Kbh K. Cartoon trying to make a point about Oyster Stouts and Mermaids. I am not sure if they succeed. Pours clear dark brown with a red hue. Head is medium-sized and off-white. Settles as 1 cm thick layer of foam managing to cover the surface of the beer. Very moderate lacing. Aroma is rich, sweet and nutty. Sweet caramel, fermented plums and figs. Sugary sweetness. Nuts and alcohol rummaging in the background. Medium carbonation. Slightly thick, oily texture. Lightly tingling. Flavor is heavy sweet and on the verge of being cloying. Very moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a light alcoholic burn. Too sweet for my taste buds but it carries a solid kick.
3.2 Bottled, shared by my neighbor. Dark brown colored. Sweet and pretty straightforward, some roasted malts, hint of chocolate.
3.5 Robe brun sombre, opaque, mousse brune moyenne, carbo correcte.
3.9 Bottle from Prik & Tik, Sijsele. Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, foamy, beige head; little lacing. Inviting aroma of milk chocolate, roasted peanut, coffee & cream, candied fig, faint vanilla, coffee liqueur, salted caramel (so at least a hint of salt?). Medium malty sweet onset, note of chocolate & creamy vanilla (dessert, basically), a bit nutty, light roasted bitterness after that with coffee roast, something herbal, and a faint raisin-like sourness. Dryish, toasty finish, lingering coffee & chocolatey malt, small dash of herbal hops, warming liqueur alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Plain good!
3.6 33cl Bottle @ Beer Mania, Brussels, Belgium. Dark brown colour with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, slightly smoky. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, licorice, slightly smoky. Medium body, average carbonation.
4.2 dark brown colour, one inch creamy beige-ish head; aroma of licorice, cocoa powder, dark berries, dried cherry and some chocolat liqueur; taste has the same notes as can be felt in the aroma with syrupy and some oyster notes, as well as spicy alcohol; I like it very much
4.0 Fles 33cl thuis. EBU 35. Licht bitter, "vleugje zeesmaak van oesters". Wat zoetig. Lekker. (6-2011).
3.8 12/04/2018 - 33cl bottle @The Capital, Leuven. Dark brown with creamy tanned head. Nose is roast, licorice. Taste is coffee, licorice, some chocolate, fruit touch, Mellow.
3.5 Bottle, Paters Vaetje. Dark brown in colour, white foam. I’d say typical of several of the Belgian style stouts I’ve had, a lot less roasty and bitter than the English/American ones, rounded malts, sweeter. The oyster bit seems to add a little seasoning rather than any notable flavour, sure I wouldn’t have spotted its presence unguided. Pleasant, although personally I prefer a bit more edge to my stouts.
3.7 (brune, nez > levure-poire (~phénol-saline-cola), pruneau, mûre, muscavido, last crème mûre-noix, donker-stout)
3.5 I would call this beer ‘stout-ish’. Its not as dark and heavy as a normal stout, but maybe a bit boring.
3.2 33 cl bottle served in snifter. Poured dark brown with one finger light tan head. Aroma: Sweet roasted malts, Chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit, caramel, oysters/Sea. Taste: coffee, milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, dark fruit, raisins. Light to medium body, thin and watery for a stout. Very light roastiness almost non-existent. Don't get the oysters in the taste. Short bittersweet finish.
3.5 33cl Bottle from ABCBeers. Medium beige head. Clear black pour. A very nice stout
3.0 Bottle. Color hazy brown with medium white head. Aroma yeast, some fruits, ligt roasted. Taste malt, chocolate, dried fruits.
3.5 Bottle from the Beer Emporium, Bristol. Pours almost black with a small beige head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit and moderate roasting. Medium plus sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation.
4.5 Wat is dit lekker zeg. Koffie, karamel, moutig. Ergens iets van kers. Topper.
