Schell FireBrick

Schell FireBrick

This all malt, Vienna-style lager is a real crowd pleaser! Roasted malts and imported hops give it a deliciously smooth malt taste backed by a light hop finish. Perfect for any occasion.

2.5 12oz bottle pours clear copper/orange with a huge khaki head. Aroma of metallic caramel and toffee malts. Taste of astringent caramel and toffee malts and sharp raisin. Didn’t enjoy this.
2.4 Bottle. Sour milk, toffee malt, and weedy grass aroma. Amber with moderate head. Lightly sweet toffee malt and lightly bitter weedy grass flavor. Very light body. Not much to it.
3.1 Bottle: Clear, dark amber, with a thick, off-white head. Caramel, lightly toasty aroma. Taste is sweet caramel malt..... Mild, nicely carbonated.....fairly solid, but simple.
3.3 Bottle - big foamy head, nice clear medium copper color, good toasted and nutty malt aroma and flavor, slightly on the sweet side, mild hop balance, full bodied finish, pretty good overall
2.5 Bottle. Pours clear copper, small beige head, decent residual and lacing. Aroma is a bit unappetizing, caramel, rotting grass, corn syrup. Flavor is much better, medium sweet, light bitter, corn and caramel. Medium body.
3.1 12oz bottle to tulip. Pours deep clear copper, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, raisins and roasted malts. Taste of the same. Mouthfeel is mod with heavy carb.
3.5 Sampled at Northgate Andover beer tasting. This was the style that first turned me on to craft beer in general, so that might be part of it. Fresh and crisp with a bready middle and mild hop finish.
2.8 Pours a light red/copper with a pillowy tan head. Moderate chunky lacing. Nose is toast, biscuit, corn, honey, butterscotch. Light to medium mouthfeel. Kinda sweet, caramelly malt,’whole grain bread, molasses, faint noble/ citrus hop in the finish. Not awful.
3.1 Dark red brown pour. Aroma creamy, slight butter. Tastes tobacco leather. More alt beer than Vienna. Toasty.
3.0 Nice Vienna larger with balanced Munich malt character. Mild hop flavor. Nice change from IPA’s but nothing spectacular.
3.0 Bottle thanks to Ben! Pours a clear light amber with a grayish tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of bread and biscuit with a bit of sweetness. Flavor is also bread and biscuit forward with some earthy grain underlying.
4.7 I’m a sucker for Vienna Lagers and session beers in general. Immensely drinkable I could drink these all night long. Nice lighter toasted malt, caramel, nice dryness on the back makes you want to drink more. This beer would go great with spicy food. I can see why this beer has won awards for the style. Edit: bumping the rating up. Perfect beer to have while grilling Brats, burgers and eating various potato salads.
3.2 Slightly above average beer with a light clean taste. Goes down smooth. My favorite Schell’s beer.
3.0 One of flavors in the mixed twelve pack.....not bad....malt heavy but very drinkable beer.
2.8 Tap at Minnesota State Fair, Land of 10,000 Beer section. Some caramel in nose. Light copper/brown color. Light caramel, root beer, grain, some gentle fruit tang, a little hoppiness in final. Thin-medium body. Okay.
2.9 a decent vienna. pours amber. Aromas of hops and toasty grains. flavours mimic aromas. very smooth, but some nice flavours - an entry level craft beer.
3.0 Pours a nice clear amber color with off-white head. Caramel malts, roasted malts, and a little citrus sneaks in on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes clean.
3.2 Bottle, pours amber with a tan head, sweet taste of caramel and malt, has slight hint of hoppy bitterness to it, not bad
3.1 Dark amber pour. Clear with a nice soft white head. Slight roasted malt nose, slight dms. Easy to drink, light, some roasted malty biscuit. Slightly metallic bitterness in the finish.
2.5 Not so bad. Crisp and light yet malty. 2nd oldest family owned brewery in the US to yuengling.
3.2 This is a pretty decent version of an under-appreciated style. Mild and watery, but with a nice breadiness. Tried at the brewery with Vaughn and Amanda.
2.8 Pretty basic amber ale here. Slight malty sweetness. Not too bad but nothing interesting. Thanks GV for this one.
3.0 12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear light amber with minimal head. Aroma of corn and grains with minimal malt. Taste is light sweet. Caramel, cotton candy and corn. Light bodied with a slightly slick texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, not bad. Enjoyable but nothing to seek out.
2.3 Tap at Memory Lanes. Good amber color. Doesn’t give the impression of freshness otherwise. Little head, no lacing. And not tied into the pouring abilities of the bartender. Slight malt sweet aroma but very slight. Tastes like a run of the mill Midwestern lager. No complexity. If you’ve tried the Grain Belt Nordeast, this bears a striking family resemblance. More brick than fire.
3.1 Best by 09SEP13 Its a lovely amber with a solid sheet of toasted cream on top. Smells sweet with some nougat, some pale malt, some biscuit and a bit of tea. Flavor is malts, sweet, some banana, some more tea (sweet tea in the south), some bits of orange peel. Medium on full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation and a wet finish. Decent beer, nothing I’d be likely to slam repeatedly.
3.4 12 oz bottle from unknown origin in Pittsburgh. Generally bland and unremarkable. I won’t be going back anytime soon.
4.1 Used to be able to get this on Northwest Airline Flights in a can. It was awesome at 35,000 feet in First Class. I loved it. Bottled from the liquor store was not the same, but still a very enjoyable beer. Very Smooth and Creamy. Very little after bite. I pause and look at it whenever I’m at my beer store, but alas, I move on. Still not a bad beer. My favorite from August Schell.
2.8 Tap in Republic, Minneapolis. Good mid-amber colour with a thin head. Pleasant malty aroma, firm taste initially, hint of biscuit, something else a bit weird is it metal? Thin finish. Pleasant enough but a bit disappointing.
3.1 Bottle at yespr. Clear amber coloured with a small off-white head. Sweet and fruity aroma f caramel and hops. Sweet and fruty flavour of caramel and hops. Hoppy finish.
3.0 Bottled. A pale golden beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of straw and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw and malt, leading to a dry finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.
