3.4 bottle into glass..orange pour with white head...some ligh metallic hints, but overall very smooth and easy drinking, one of the better schell beers ive had, woujdl do again
3.6 12 oz. bottle. Pours clear golden amber with a tight thin foamy film. Aroma has solid malt with subtle sugars and hidden hops and some mild honey fruit scents. Taste is smooth and sweet with just the perfect amount of bitterness and again subtle honey fruit in the finish. Palate is medium smooth somewhat creamy and finishes dry. I really like this!
3.6 Pours a fairly clear hazy orange color with some moderate carbonation. Aroma has some sweet caramel, yeast, barley and malty notes along with some very mild floral hops. Flavor is surprisingly hoppy at first before settling in to a sweet yeast and caramel finish; Aftertaste is barley-like Palate is light and the carbonation is moderate; feels surprisingly crisp to drink. Easy to drink overall, but not my goto Maibock
2.4 Its hard to get around the metallic aroma this has for some reason. If you make it that far the taste is actually not bad, big malty beginning and decent underlying hops.
1.8 Over the years I have come to expect very little from Schell’’s and this certainly lived up to expectations! Maifest=Festival in May? No festival I will go to again, forever. No sir, stick with the year-round festival that can be found in a case of Blatz! Pop a top of that junk and you are transported away to a festival of the imagination: your IQ will double or triple, that messy body fat will melt away, your muscletone will triple, and any number of floozies will be hovering around screaming out, "Gib mir etwas von diesem großen Wurst!"
2.7 Light nose. Slight hops flavor. Citrus and wheat palate with small bitter finish. Nothing special
2.4 Bottle pour from 2012 season. Good lacing on the glass. Poor metallic taste. Amber color
3.0 12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear yellow with a white head. Aroma is cornish to grassy. Bitter, toasted malty and light grassy. Medium dry and grassy finish.
3.1 Not bad nice our nice lacing on the glass tthe smell and taste is floral hops sweet. Had this a couple months back and finishing my last bottle tonite. You can feel the alcohol in this one. Light in color but fairrly complex vaguely reminds me of the hoppy Augusburger from Huber in the 80s which was a big fav. Not quite up to that but still a pretty decent brew from Schells. Good midwestern German beer. Prost.
2.3 deep golden with medium head. i’m relatively unfamiliar with the style, but the mix of sweet maltiness, bitter hops, and alcohol just creates an unpleasant mess of flavors in my mouth. from the other reviews, it’s clear that i’m in the minority in thinking this is pretty subpar.
2.7 TAP: Gold pour with small white head and no lacing. Nose is bread and citrus. Taste is malt, faint caramel, citrus hops.
3.1 Pours a beautiful gold color with a creamy off white head. Nice visible carbonation. Nose is of hops and malt. Nice and creamy mouthfeel. Taste upfront is malt, a little sweet like a doppelbock, but not as dark or as sweet, with hops providing the finish. A good maibock that pairs well with corned beef and rye bread.
1.5 Once again, Schell´s state that they are making German style beer, yet throw together another very average American micro. This one is packed full of caramel malts which make it very cloying and viscous. Drink it for the alcohol content if you must.
3.2 12oz bottle-pours gold with a foamy offwhite head. Aroma is light malt/grain-bready. Taste is sweet light malt/grain-bready/caramel, some light fruit-pear, perfumy hops.
3.4 Caramel, roast and mild floral aroma. Copper with white lasting head. Caramel, mild alcohol, roast and sweet malt flavors. Nice balance...sweet malt and mild bitterness.
3.5 Serving glass: Poured from bottle into a tall glass. Appearance: Bright, burnished gold with foamy barely off-white head. Aroma: Bittersweet apple, caramel and noble hop spiciness. Not sure I have ever smelled that much apple in a beer before. Taste: Very sweet upfront with candied sugar, caramel, apple, and some grass and straw characteristics. Ends slightly spicy and bitter, but less so than most other Maibocks I have had. Palate: Moderately high carbonation, medium body, fairly warming, slightly cloying finish. Overall: It’s an okay Maibock, but is simply too sweet and alcoholic for my personal tastes.
3.6 Golden color, fair amount of head.Bought it room temp shelf, and is slightly out of season which may explain the off yeast aroma.Other than that it is a good malt aroma candylike smell fruit like hop aroma with some alcohol along with a pleasant yeast freshbread like aroma besides the off aroma.Taste is similar very good flavor, low bitterness smooth malt soft hops finishes with a clean mild citrus.Almost a session but good to savor.
3.0 Average Maibock beer. I still have to get at least a 6 pack every year whenit comes out.
2.9 Pale malt crunch with alcohol burn, not a real flavorful beer but a kick in the face if you need it.
3.1 Cask at the Upper Mississippi Mashout. Not sure why they casked this one but whatever. Pours a slightly hazed deep gold/yellow. Nose is very bready and a touch sweet. Bocky melanoidin component as well. A hint of spicy continental hop notes and perhaps a grainy component as well. On taste, medium bodied with a round sweetness from the alcohol that is a bit much, imo. Does have a robust maltiness to it, but the sweetness does seem to get in the way. A hint more bittering would have been perfect for this one. Okay.
2.9 Pours reddish orange with white head, aroma has notes of caramel, grass, and pine. Taste is some dull notes of grass, leading into caramel, slightly bitter finish. Pretty good flavors, but not very many of them and not very strong.
3.7 Heller Bock? How about a Hellova Bock? I really enjoyed this one, helped me shoot 4 on a par 3.
3.0 Hazy dark straw color - frothy, lasting head - aroma of dough, vanilla, sweetbreads, a bit of fruitiness - flavor is medium sweet and fairly clean up front - some hops bitterness and crackery character - dough through the middle, with faint butterscotch/diacetyl - becomes rather sweet at the end, but it is a clean sweetness - light esters - not quite to style, but not terrible.
3.0 Deep gold, almost no head. Highly carbonated. Mild aroma. Some bitterness... pleasing beer... can tell the strength, but otherwise medium / light body.
3.5 12 oz bottle from TC Craft. Golden, straw colored pour with a big white head that leaves fantastic lacing. Fresh, clean aroma with some bready notes. Crisp, clean flavor with some hoppy notes and a slightly bitter hoppy flavor.
2.9 Pours clear gold with hints of amber and a 2 finger creamy whitish head that has good retention. Aroma is sweet cereal grain, light toast, light soapy, grassy and floral hops and a little dried bread. Flavor is eggy bread crust, grassy hops, ethanol, cereal grain and a light, vegetal planty note. Palate is medium bodied a little oily and dry in the finish with a light carbonation. Not really my cup of tea here, the aroma is moderately attractive, but it falls apart at first sip with not so great taste and somewhat greasy palate..
3.2 medium to dark gold pour with light reddish highlights. thick white head keeps a decent cap. aroma is sweet toasted malt. light spicy hop. Flavour has an herbal alcoholic tinge. over toasted caramel maltiness. medium sweetness. decent body, slightly sticky finish.
2.4 Bottle. Gold pour, small white head. Bread, malt, and citrus nose and taste. I didn’t particularly enjoy this one.
2.8 Golden hue beer with a small head and not much carbonation in the glass. The aroma is honeyed and rose scented like a spring meadow. The taste is predominately hops centered and the malt sits behind a salty watery base. The palate is overly carbonated a too bubbly. I was disappointed in this beer.
3.1 Bottle thanks to MrBunn. Strong aroma of bananas. Like banana cream pie. Pours an ambery yellow without much head. Strong banana flavor, some graininess to it, and a bit of lemon and cool whip. smooth and creamy palate. It reminds me of an ultra sweet wheat beer. The sugar really comes out as it sits and becomes less enjoyable. Some Apple flavor is starting to come out towards the end, but it doesnt help.
