3.7 A lovely Bavarian dunkel lager, and it has its own taste, a strong digestive-biscuit flavour. That may not sound appealing, but when you combine it with fine carbonation and a relatively light mouthfeel, this really is a delightful drink. In looks, it is medium dark brown, with cherry colours when held up to the light. The head is a pale biscuit-coloured froth. This brew doesn't boast much hops presence, but there are hints of hop-bitter undertones on the back end, modifying the dominant malts. I took rather long to finish the glass, and it got much duller once warmed up. But chilled, it's a fine, mild Bavarian dunkel, for me, that's an uncomplicated pleasure to drink.
2.8 caramel, bread, hay, cereal, chocolate, coffee, nuts, toast, roasty, resin, floral, grass, spruce, citrus, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, medium sourness, lightly sour, lightly bitter, light sweetness,
3.6 Bottle. Pours dark amber brown, handsome beige head. Sweet toffee, caramel malt aroma. Taste follows, toast, a little chocolate even. Slightly watery finish but all in all really satisfying.
3.4 Crisp, light, smooth. Scheyern Kloster beers don't tend to bring up strong flavours, and this was no exception. Sweet but not overpowering, too thin a texture for me and though I enjoyed it, nothing stood out.
