Schlafly Dry Hopped APA

Schlafly Dry Hopped APA

Our Dry Hopped American Pale Ale (APA) is charged with American hops to create a bold, aromatic ale. Assertive hop flavor joins the pine/citrus aroma characteristic of American hops to balance the full body provided by North American malts. After fermentation, the beer circulates through a bed of Cascade and Chinook hops, boosting the distinctive hop aroma of this satisfying ale.

3.4 Decent balance and easy to drink. Some citrus and hay. Notes of straw. Light bitter finish. Hazy amber pour with ok head and lacing. Bottle.
3.3 12 oz. bottle pours ac;ear pramge color wirh one-finger head that vanishes quickly but leaves good lacing. Aroma is full of floral hops and bready malts. Taste is slightly bitter, with a big malty backbone and a big bitter finish. Body is medium with average carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel Very easily drinkable, and one I’ll try again. Not outrageeously good, but solid.
3.2 On tap. Pours orangish with an off white head. Aroma is of hops, malt, and grass. Smells good. Taste is of grass, bready malt, pine, and hops. Not overly hopped, which makes it easy to drink. Mouthfeel is light and creamy. This beer was tasty, and it went down really easy.
3.5 I think I maybe overdid it on APA/IPA/DIPAs at World of Beer Fest. This one just didn’t do it for me.
3.8 Murky brown orange pour with half inch dense white head. Aroma of tropical fruit punch, earthy and Carmel malts too. Soft carbonation, tingly frothy mouthfeel, dry finish. Herbal flavors with tropical fruit, and some melon, and the perfect amount of big Caramel malt character. Good juicy tropical APA, would like to taste fresh as this bottle was 5 months old.
4.0 Bottle. Pours a clear orange/gold color. Thin white head disappates quickly. Aroma is of resinous hops and bready malt. The flavor is similar. Well balanced with piney, floral hops and a bread-like malt backbone, with just a touch of caramel sweetness. Medium body and carbonation. Slightly bitter with a rather short finish. Nice APA!
3.5 this one is hoppy with a light malt backbone. finishes slightly dry and bitter. smells like pine and pours orange in color with a white head. not a bad pale. had out of a bottle at home.
3.2 On tap, poured into a sampler at Great American Beer Classic. The aroma is bread with a citrus touch and some mild caramel. It pours a clear caramel color with a thin, light soap head that has a light retention and no lace. It’s a medium sweet front with a bitter finish. The beer is oily and flat with a medium body containing bread, caramel and bitter grapefruit near the end. The finish is malty with roast grains that remain in the aftertaste which is mild, waxy, and dry.
3.2 Ok beer. Looking for different hops. But still an ok beer. First drank: 5/4/15 crowned plaza STL Vintage: 2015
4.0 12 ounce bottle from a sampler pack. Pours an interesting sediment-particle-filled orange body with a thumbnail of white head that recedes within 30 seconds. Tight, sifting lace. Very clean aroma of resinous hops. The flavor is also clean and well-balanced between piney, floral hops and caramel, bread-like malt backbone. Hints of citrus and just a touch of herb. Medium carbonation and medium/full body. Now THIS is more like it! Much better than their pale ale I just tried.
3.3 12 oz bottle dated 1/5/15 poured into a pint glass. I will keep in mind that it’s slightly old at this point when reviewing. The beer pours a somewhat hazy golden orange with an inch or so of tan head that shrinks down a bit and leaves real nice lacing. Aroma is grassy hops, bready malts mostly. It reminds me more of a pilsner, but than again, the beer is a bit old. On to taste. Right away there is a bit of hop bitterness and bright citrus flavors. They are quickly met with a heavy malt backbone with tons of bread and biscuit notes, as well as some traces of toffee. The beer was easy to drink and I could have a few more. Overall not too bad, especially considering the age.
3.4 Pours a hazy orange. Has a nice aroma and a good hoppy flavor. Nice to have every now and then.
2.8 A score of 91? Mine must be old? Too one-dimensional with lots of hops citrus rind and pine resin and bitterness, but there’s no malt character to back it up. Not terrible, like most Schlafly beers, but not exactly good.
3.2 A hazed golden amber ale with a thick frothy white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with grassy floral hops, light oxidation, OK. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with citrusy floral hops, pink grapefruit, still solid after a few years.
3.6 Thick foamy head leaves white lacing. Citrus hop aroma. Nice bitterness with a little bit too an aftertaste.
3.7 On tap at John’s Restaurant & Tavern in Winfield, IL., dispensed to a shaker showing a hazed, orangey gold hue, with a meringue-like layer of cream colored head foam, and curtainy cling to the lacing. The aroma was initially cloaked by the persistent froth, but gradually revealed a nose that wasn’t altogether fresh, but very dank & stinky, followed by citrus as grapefruit, and some resinous notes. Medium+ bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste also presented some malt sweetness, and like creaminess to the mouthfeel. The hop influence was strong, citrus & rind astringency that lingered well past the empty glass, and a full serving of water. A hearty APA whose bitterness rivaled many DIPAs that I’ve sampled.
3.8 Amber with a cream head. Nose is fruity hops, sticky, florals, and bright. Great palate, fruity hops, sticky palate, smooth, and a easy finish
3.4 On tap at lambert international airport. Good bitter hoppy pale ale with the only sweetness coming through right up front. The rest of each sip and aftertaste is dominated by hop bitterness. I really liked this one.
2.4 In my beer drinking I’ve came a long way and these malty style APA’s don’t cut it anymore. This one has a strong and distinct malty backing and finish. Not enough hops for a dry hopped ale for me. Kind of let down by this one.
3.2 On tap at the at louis airport. Hazy orange with a white head that only briefly graced us with its presence. Orange peel and wheat and hops were dominant but nothing overwhelming.
3.1 Poured from 12oz bottle to pint glass. Weak thin head dissipated quickly with minimal lacing. Citrus and honey aroma. Straw colored with significant hazing. Piney citrus taste with minimal malt sweetness. Overall an APA that struggles to identify itself.
3.2 Pours a clear golden with a thinner white head. The aroma has grassy hops, caramel, mild grapefruit and mango, and some spice. The taste has some bitterness, with heavy grapefruit and some pineapple. There are some floral hops, and some lesser impressions of pine and caramel. Aftertaste is grapefruit. This is lighter in body, has a slick texture, and about average in carbonation. Its alright and is rather easy to drink. Its nothing to knock your socks off though.
3.6 Great copper orange look from a bottle in a tulip glass. Decent hoppy aroma. A little bitter and not flavorful enough for my taste.
4.0 Great cascade like aroma, superb pine flavor and some grassiness finish wa exactly that a finish, no lingering crap in background just a great clean finish expected in this style.
3.4 Bottle to glass. Pours a light copper, one finger of white head. Aroma of light citrus hops, grassy. Taste is nicely balanced roasted, semi sweet malts with lightly citrusy hops. Pretty enjoyable!
3.8 Assertive. The aroma is good and the taste is even better with plenty of the cascade blasting through. The appearance is a bit chunky and turbid. Finish is a nice amount of bitterness with only a puny of malt stickiness. Overall, it’s very pleasing.
2.7 ドライポップAPA 変な甘ったるさがあり、香りはあんまり 苦味がやたら強い まずい
3.0 355ml bottle. Bottled 12/13/14. Pours a darker gold than in the picture. Aroma is basic, caramel, earth, citrus, ambiguous fruit. Flavor is fruity, herbal, farily round and watery but yet witha dry finish. Spicy and herbal, a bit acidic. Its decent.
3.1 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. From notes, because internet outage. A: Pours a mildly hazy gold color. There’s a finger worth of white-colored head. It’s bubbly texture has decent retention, and also leaves behind rings of lacing down the side of the glass. S: The malts here are quite nutty, backed by some piny hops, and even some indistinct spice notes. There are touches of citrus, but I wished this was stronger. All in all, a mild and unimpressive aroma. T: It starts off with some mild nut flavors along with caramel touches. The pepper I picked up from the nose is fairly prevalent here, also. Hops only really show up as a piny flavor near the back end. Not bad, but a classic example of a beer that’s balanced to a fault. M: Very crisp and light, even over other pale ales. Even better, it isn’t particularly watery in feel, boasting decent body without overdone residual sweetness. Carbonation is at a good level, not too fizzy nor too flat. O: The feel was great, but everything else was rather lacking. Luckily, it’s great drinkability helps (somewhat) to mask its less-than-amazing flavor profile. Still, this isn’t going to be on my "repeat purchase" list anytime soon.
3.2 Ah, well it’s a decent enough American Pale Ale. Dry-hopped title doesn’t mean too much.
