3.8For rating #1000, bottle autographed by Dan Kopman. Hazy, yellow-orange pour with a frothy, white head. The aroma is spicy and herbal, with some light fruit. It has a medium body with slightly oily texture and lively carbonation. The taste is sweet but finishes a little milder with a semi-dry feel.
4.5Great, big beer. Had on tap at their tap room in St Louis. Rated with another app.

3.6Sampled at the Funky 8 - Brooklyn, NYC. Big and sweet, faintly tangy. Dark fruits, raisins, caramel, bread. Some booze. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with sugary malts and further dark, rich and ripe fruits. Decent.
3.9750 bottle from Beer Run. Pours a hazy amber color with a thin frothy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of raisin, caramel, toast and almost some woody notes. The taste is bread, caramel, vanilla, spice, dry fruits. Medium bodied, high carbonation. Solid.
3.6750ml bottle served into a Tripel Karmaliet tulip.
A - Pours a hazy golden orange with a quickly vanishing white head. Very little specks of lacing.
S - Lots of fruit esters and bread. Tart apples, peaches, lychee, pineapple, candied lemon citrus, pears, spicy Belgian yeast, light cereal grains. Hints of sourness and slight mustiness.
T - Very sweet and fruity. Tropical fruit galore, pineapple, papaya, guava, stone fruits, sour apples, bananas, all sweet but tart as well. Spicy Belgian yeast is layered with in as well as some
M - Medium wet body but quickly dries out.
Lots going on here. Sweet fruit, spicy, malty, and tart. Interesting for sure. This kinda reminds me of a a Tripel.

3.4Appearance: cloudy white orange. Not much head. Interesting aroma though of lemon zest, tropical fruit, and yeast. Spicy, bready, lemony flavors. Somewhat thin-bodied for the style. Has more bitterness than I expected. Do not find it overly sweet at all, as some have said. A decent Belgian strong.
3.7This is a good example of why its good to keep rating styles you are usually leery of. I am not usually a fan of big Belgian inspired beers, because they I tend to find them to be big, boozy, overly sweet messes. So, that being said, I really enjoyed this. Nicely sweet, but not too much, lots of yeasty character without being too boozy, and subtle, tart citrus. I liked it...
3.6Nice aroma of sweet fruit and some malt. The flavor is sweet fruit as well with a bit of hops towards the back of the swallow. About average for the style which is better than most American versions.
3.6750 ml bottle into snifter. Purchased from The Party Source, Bellevue, KY. Bottled on 12/15/11. Damn, really?? I bought this in December 2012. The aroma was fruity Belgian yeast, sugar and pale malts. Cloudy gold with tons of tiny particles of yeast floating around the glass. Flavor is Belgian yeast, lots of fruity notes. (Mostly apricot) some candy sugar notes and a slight alcohol touch in the finish. Very fruity with lots of yeast. Medium body with a soft carbonation. Overall sweet and fruity but pretty good and holds true to the style.
3.4750ml bottle. Pours a golden orange color with white head. Belgian yeast and dark malt flavors. Malty, yeasty, slight barnyard flavors. A servicable strong belgian.
3.9This poured a golden color with a white carbonated head. The aroma contains some citrus, spices, and herbal notes. The flavor is rather sour with more citrus, bananas, ginger, and spices. The mouthfeel is very carbonated. Overall this is not sweet at all, more dry and funky than anything. A good beer!
3.2750 ml. Bottled Nov. 14, 2012. Hazy amber with a quarter inch of lasting bubbles, with lots of yeasty activity in the body. Smells of white grape must , toffee, and rusty apple cider. Tastes are rusty pear, caramel apple and a bit of resin. Medium body is dry, alcoholic, and has too much carbonation.
3.2At Han Dynasty with Ray and Jay. Pours a cloudy gold with white head and some lacing. Notes of caramel, peanut brittle, butter, bread. A little too sweet for me. Would benefit from a little cellaring.
3.5Pours a deep golden with moderate effervescence, 1 finger lingering head that is white and leaves moderate to heavy lacing. Moderately sweet that quickly turns moderately tart. Bready. Hints of bananas, clove, maybe ginger Definite alcohol presence. Astringent hops. Bitter finish. Chewy, full bodied.
4.4Pours cloudy orange with a medium white head. Smells bready, fruity, and a touch spicy. Taste is light fruits and subtle spiciness. Medium-bodied with a slick texture and fizzy mouth-carbonation, Schlafly Grand Cru finishes with a spicy tingle.
3.8Bottled on 12/15/11. Aroma was pretty yeasty-dough, cheesecloth, lemon, brett. Appearance was cloudy gold with foamy white head. Flavor matched the nose; the alcohol was noticeable, but not abrasive. Really nice lemon honey character shines through upon warming. Palate was nearly effervescent and fluffy. I liked it.
2.5Acquired in a trade a long while ago. Bottled on 12/15/11. Enjoyed at cellar temp in a Riedel Grand Cru Bordeaux glass. Sort of a light tan with hints of brown. Minimal 2 finger head that faded almost instantly. Very bready. Hints of a rodenbach scent, brett and some bready belgian yeast strains. Some cherries and pepper. Very malty sweet taste up front. Very sweet, some very light dark fruit notes, some vanilla and spices. Lots of candied sugar and some floral sort of taste. Way too sweet. Medium body, I was expecting more.
3.0Really not what I was expecting. My previous experiences with Grand Crus have led me to expect unfiltered, sweet yeasty malty goodness with spices. this was spicer but a bit harsh and low on the drinkability scale. You can definitely taste that 9% too.
(Rating #4261)
2.8In short: A strong sweet spicy fruity blond ale. Low drinkability
How: Bottle 750ml shared at a Montreal tasting. Not sure about the age, probably around 4 to 8 months old
The look: Cloudy blond body topped by a small white head
In long: Nose is very phenolic and rather spicy. Like smelling a wrapped spicy candy with the plastic packaging. Taste is salty crackers, white-pepper, sugary bananas, canned pineaples, spicy hard-candy, light plastic notes. Some kind of grassy hops trying to fight their way through this spicy sugariness. A bit of alcohol presence. This is really not my type of brew and I suspect my score would be even lower have I tried to drink a full bottle. My friends liked this beer more than I did but unfortunately this is just not my type of beer, and I wish my friends would understand that, I’ve even prepared an acceptance speech in case one day my friends accept me for who I am.
4.1Poured from a 750ml bottle into a chalice, no freshness date.
A: Very slightly hazy amber body with small carbonation bubbles steadily rising to the creamy thick white head. This is a great looking beer!
S: I’m only smelling yeast presence. A slightly chalky and ripe banana aroma is prominent, mild cloves. This smells good, but a bit weak.
T: The intro doesn’t have much going on but the yeast quickly comes in and makes it’s presence known giving a slightly chalky flavor with lots of fruit of bananas and some strawberries transforming into a dry medicinal cherry finish with mildly warming spices lingering on my tongue after the sip. I am enjoying this, the yeast is highly showcased here and it’s doing a good job.
M: Very fizzy creamy body with mildly sharp carbonation here. This feels good going down.
O: This is a good beer, I’m not sure why the low ratings but I’m enjoying this very much so. There’s a good amount going on in this that keeps me interested and nothing is immensely overpowering the next. I like this!
3.3My Bottom Line:
Peppermint-like, spicy hops garnish this Belgian-style Strong Ale’s simple flavor profile, as sparse prickling, wheat-like cereal foundations and mild rusticity whip up many agreeable sips.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the cloudy beige.
-Doughy yeast flavors are diversified by light banana esters.
-Drinkability is not high enough for such a simple brew. I’d much rather have a 5% brew with a similar flavor profile.
-The hoppy finish is also redolent of peppermint.
Bottle.
3.7750 ml bottle pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of yeast, sweet fruit and spices. Taste is banana, spice and the yeast.
4.3Aroma is yeast/spicy and fruit. The flavor is yeast, bananas, spicy and a good malt backbone. Very good BSA.
3.2Pour is a dark yellow to a light orange color with a small bone white head, maybe a finger thick. Nose is of of some belgian yeasts and a rather strong spice/herbal scent. Taste is similar to the nose, almost reminiscent of a triple more than anything else. Rather thin and smooth for a 9%, though not exactly full flavor either.
3.6750 ml bottle into tulip, no bottle dating. Pours hazy and cloudy golden straw color with a nice 2 finger white head with great retention that reduces to a thick cap. A mild gusher upon opening, and tons of carbonation is streaming up from the bottom of the glass. Some nice thick lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big lemon, pear, apple, bread, light tart graininess, and spicy yeast. Fairly nice and balanced aromas, tons of fruitiness. Taste of big lemon zest, pepper, coriander, spice, bread, tart grains, and yeasty tang. Lingering notes of pepper, spices, bread, light fruits, and tangy yeast on the finish for a bit. Seems a little off balanced upon tasting; a bit too grainy and spicy. Needed more fruitiness in the taste. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a fairly creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a warming on the finish noticed. Nice drinkability but is still a sipper. Overall, a solid Belgian pale ale style. I wasn’t feeling this one too much because of the overly grainy flavor.
3.4Bottle thanks to eric western. Aroma is a little sour, bready, wth notes of dark fruit, spices (corriander?), and some sour dough. Palate is a little chewy and dry. Flavor brings out a sweetness, bringing out some apple in the nose.
3.7750ml bottle from Pick’s poured into my Chimay Trappist glass. Pours a clear amber with minimal head. Aroma of caramel, fruit and sugar. Taste is medium sweet. Taste of Belgian sugar, caramel, alcohol and fermented fruit. Medium bodied with a thick and sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long sweet finish. Overall, pretty good. Something I would share with a friend next time though. A little too sweet for my taste.
