2.3 12 oz can, poured into a bell glass at approximately 40 degrees F. A: Poured very, very pale, like water with a hint of an echo of the shadow of a yellowish tinge. In the glass, it takes on a little more color, turning a polished gold hue. It looks more like a dark cider than a hefeweizen, forming a minimal head that dies away quickly and appearing more hazy than cloudy. It does leave some scattered patches of persistent lacing on the glass. S: The aroma is primarily wheat and grain fields, with a few hints of clove and something slightly bubble-gum-esque. Not much in the way of fruit odors. T: With all respects to Douglas Adams, the taste is not almost, but not quite, exactly unlike a hefeweizen. This drinks more like a yellow lager, with the same sort of hop profile - wheaten and grassy, with a slight citrus tang. None of the clove or bubblegum from the nose appears, and none of the fruity esters one would expect from a hefeweizen seem to be present. M: Watery, but with rather active carbonation. O: There are many better examples of the hefeweizen style out there. This seems almost mislabeled, more like a pale wheat ale.
2.0 Appearance: lightly hazy light yellow, short creamy white head quickly dissipates to nothing. Aroma: extremely light aroma, almost nonexistent, with a bit of pepper and banana. Taste: light banana, hint of citrus and mineral water, a bit of pepper, and some skunky notes. Finish: lingering diacetyl and some creamed corn. Notes: The rare miss from St Louis Brewing. Not good at all. Tasted skunked, but only bottled six months ago.
3.0 Draft - average size foamy head, hazy light gold color, mild banana and spice aroma and flavor, sweet wheat backbone, pretty easy to drink and refreshing, not the strong true German hefe kick of flavors, but not bad overall
2.5 Just a pretty average hefeweizen. Really weak aroma and lacking in taste. I am thrilled it comes in cans for concerts in the park.
3.0 Pours a hazy cloudy golden woth white head. Grain, wheat, funk, and some light fruit on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with funk.
2.7 12 oz bottle poured into a stemmed Belgian tulip glass. The aromas consist of banana, wheat, and a damp basement funk. It pours a hazy yellow with a white soapy head. It reduces down to a medium thick ring with a light surface dusting and leaves behind a light lacing. It’s a medium light sweet and a light bitter. The thin, oily texture has a light, soft carbonation, medium body and finishes with bread and wheat grain notes and just a touch of fruit. The aftertaste is mostly clean with just some grain character.
3.2 On tap @ Schlafly Tap Room, Lambert Airport edition. Hazed pale straw pour with a tall white head. Mostly just bread on the nose. A touch of soap and floral hops, maybe some yeast, too. Kind of lemony as well. Flavor is slightly tart, but as with the nose, is dominated by bread/malt. Fairly sweet, with a light peppery bitterness. Sort of yeasty. Could take it or leave it.
4.0 This beer pours a hazy golden yellow color with white head. Aroma is kind of light with notes of wheat. Not the greatest Hefeweizen, but it isn’t the worst either. Great on a summer evening with a lemon wedge.
3.1 Hazy golden pour with little head. Aroma of bread, cloves, lemon. Easy drinking with a lager like mouthfeel. Not the greatest in style but good enough
2.8 Bottle from old backlog notes. Pours a hazy yellow golden color with a small white head. The aroma and flavor have pale wheat malts, some doughy character, light citrus, light spice, not really a good Hefe, oh we have it classified as a wheat ale which makes more sense. Meh.
2.8 I enjoyed this beer. It is mild but goes down smooth on a hot day. I added a lemon wedge as thr bottle suggested and voila great summer evening beer.
3.2 Pours a light straw color with a small white head that doesn’t stick around. Aroma is pretty mild; citrus, a little wheat. Taste is the same with the addition of a slight banana flavor. Pretty thin but extremely drinkable. Nice beer for warm weather, otherwise it’s pretty forgettable.
3.5 Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Smells of subtle wheat, hints of bubblegum. Taste is citrus, hints of spice. Medium-bodied with with a prickly texture and a fizzy texture, Schlafly Hefeweizen finishes with a lingering citrus tartness.
3.9 Tap. A smooth beer. Pour is straw yellow. Nose is clove. Taste is very smooth with clove.
2.2 Bottle, shared with Parksy. Slightly hazy gold. Aroma and flavour of mild grains. Schlafly has not impressed me with their standard lineup-- another dud.
2.1 Pours a golden haze with a good white head. Aroma is very bland, maybe a very small sweet note. Taste is slight malt, very thin, somewhat sweet again but no fruit or honey. Overall a very underwhelming beer, though somewhat drinkable.
2.9 bottle. Hazy golden with small head. Light wheat sweetness with slight lemony flavor. Average for an American hefe.
3.0 Poured from bottle. Fruity, citrus aroma. Cloudy gold with white head. Wheat and citrus/lemon flavored with a bit of honey. This is more like a shandy/radler than a hefe. Not bad, but kinda lame considering the brewer.
3.0 Clear pale straw color, persistent 1/2" white head, streaks and dots of lace. Taste is pure wheat malt with carbonation and light spices that moves smartly through the palate to a carbon ated finish that balances well-enough to be effective. Not big, not overpowering, but it does what it advertises: authentic wheat beer.
3.1 Bottled Nov. 14. Pours a slightly cloudy yellow. Very subtle throughout the smell, sip, taste and finish. Easy to drink to say the least, just not anything extraordinary here.
1.7 Bottle. Pours a crystal clear golden color with a small white head on it. Nose is extremely wheaty with a fair amount of skunk in it. Taste has a slight bit of citrus in there with some skunk as well. Not really a fan.
4.5 I had this at Fridays. Pours gold with a white head. Taste lemony, citrus. I thought was pretty good. I would definitely drink this again.
3.4 Pours an opaque yellow with a head that rapidly disappears. Aroma of straw and lemon and some bitter hop. Light flavor of lemon and wheat. Actually one of the more refreshing wheats I’ve had - not too sour or earthy. I’m surprised this isn’t higher-rated. Perfect on a hot day.
2.9 Hazy dark yellow. Fizzy. Served with a lemon. Very smooth but nothing Stands out. Not as much yeast as expected.
3.2 The color of this beer is a hazy light yellow color with a large white head that fades quickly, and the aroma is a fairly simply blend of dough yeast and wheat. The taste is mildly sour and slightly sweet, and the palate combines a medium body, soft carbonation, slick texture, and a sour and malty finish.
3.0 Had at the Tap Room in St. Louis in the summer of 2011. I'm not generally a fan of the style. A drinkable beer especially in the summer.
3.1 Draft from the schlafly tap room. Fairly average domestic hefeweizen. Nothing stood out as a special offering.
2.8 Bottle into Weizen glass. Slightly hazy golden yellow color with white head. Aroma is kind of light; notes of wheat, bread and peppery. Taste is light too of the aroma notes, maybe adding a slight lemon quality. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp, smooth with dry finish. Was expecting more Hefeweizen qualities since the bottle calls it such. So decent wheat ale, disappointing Hefe.
2.8 12oz bottle direct from the Schlafly Tap Room in St Louis. Beautiful pour with a fresh, foamy head. Color is a pale yellow-gold with the slight haze typical of unfiltered wheat beers. Aroma is almost non-existent with just a hint of mustiness. Taste is crisp with a mild citrusy sweetness that is mouth-filling, refreshing and well balanced. The taste lingers briefly on the palate with no aftertaste whatsoever. A dangerously drinkable heffeweisen!
3.1 12oz bottle, from Party Town. Bottled with love on 6/06/13. Shared with b3shine. Mostly clear golden yellow color. Thin bit of white head on the surface, leaves a couple tiny dots of lace. This smells distinctly light a pilsner, which is very odd. Bready, and peppery, it’s an alluring pilsner smell, but totally out of place and unexpected for a beer that calls itself a hefeweizen. No banana, vanilla, spice notes that you’d expect.. Taste is moderate bitter, minimal sweet. Tastes more like a lager than an ale, much less sweet than any wheat ale I’ve ever head. Hint of lemon citrus. Lighter body. Smooth, crisp lighter carbonation, lightly dry finish. A pretty good, light, refreshing pils. That’s how I rated this. A hefeweizen, or a wheat ale, even... It’s way off the mark
