4.0 12 ounce bottle. Translucent black brown color. Moderate rocky tan head. Big coffee and roasted malt nose. Flavor follows the nose. Notes of tobacco and French roast coffee. There is an underlying, earthy oat-like character at play. Rich and flavorful with substantial body and complexity. Very nice indeed.
3.8 Bottle from Discount. Pours a deep brown to black with almost no head. Huge coffee nose that dominates with cacao nib, wood and milk chocolate undertones. Good carbonation with more chocolate and coffee. Light on the palate but has a nitro cold brew quality to it. Roasty coffee finish, with some sweetness. This is legit!
3.6 12oz bottle from Beer Bazaar in Hainesville. Brown pour with a rapidly disappearing beige head leaving no lace. Aroma has espresso, light molasses, other malts. One dimensional nose, but it is a solidly good dimension. Taste is of coffee malt and some other sweet malts. Lightly roasty. Medium bodied. Little alcohol presence. The blend is solid. The carbonation is soft. Finishes to the sweet side of bittersweet. Shrug? For a Schlafly, and a one-dimensional brew, this is solid enough and fairly tasty. 13.7
2.9 Poured from a 12oz bottle. Poured ink black, but failed to retain any head or lacing. Strong nose of strong, black coffee. It tasted more like coffee than beer. Not really boozy, but that’s ok. A little on the watery side (felt more like a porter than a stout). Cheers!
3.7 Bottle. Dark pour, small head. Coffee strong on the nose. Flavor of coffee, oats, nuts and caramel. A pretty well balanced coffee beer
3.4 12 ounce bottle. Pours a pitch black color that is actually dark brown when held up to the light with a small white head. A huge coffee nose. Very rich coffee, vanilla, green coffee beans, sugary vanilla. Coffee beers aren’t usually my thing, but this is still good.
3.4 As Coffee Stout. A deep dark stout with a thick collapsing brown head. In aroma, smooth resinous coffee grind with light chocolate, treacle, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with light coffee notes, light vanilla, light chalky notes, nice and smooth. Bièropholie imports.
3.2 Bottle, pours dark brown and two finger tan head. Coffee aroma and taste with a little dairy. Pretty straight forward.
3.5 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite. Dark brown pour. Minimal head and light lace. Coffee aroma. Medium sweetened coffee flavor. Mild lactose flavor. Finishes dry, some roastiness. Fairly clean, average carbonation. Solid.
3.3 Où, Quand, Comment : Bouteille, dégustée le 7/5/2013. Visuel : Couleur : noire. Apparence : opaque.
3.7 Pours a mahogany color. About one finger khaki colored head. Okay retention, good lacing. Aroma is cold coffee. Good job. But it’s boring. No toffee, not chocolate, no nothing. But hey, you nailed the main part, the coffee part. Taste is coffee, again, good job. Cold coffee, which I do happen to like. I pick up some coffee, some sweetness. It’s tasty. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, maybe a little creamy. It’s bitter, like coffee. It’s about like I would expect, which is good. Overall, it’s nothing exciting. I love coffee, I love coffee stout, and I like this. But give me something a little more. I would recommend it.
3.3 On draft. Mahogony hue with medium white head. Big coffee nose like a cold pressed shot. Cocolate bitterness and a nice carbonation. Toffee and roasted tones carry a nice sweetness.
4.0 Creamy. Long lasting head. Draft. Nice coffee aroma taste. Great breakfast beer very coffee.
3.1 12 oz bottle One of the twelve beers of Christmas. The stout poured a deep black with a small tan head that quickly dissipated. The aroma of roasted malts and coffee is easily identified. Not being a coffee drinker it reminds me of smelling coffee beans. The stout has a light body with soft carbonation. The taste of coffee dominates the stout even to the finish. Not much of an aftertaste the coffee taste fades away. Tried another from Total Wine and More. No change to the evaluation, lots of coffee. Could use more roasted malts.
3.4 Black color thin on the mouthful for a stout coffee, roast, light earth and malt. Flavors are the same decent coffee beer overall.
3.6 bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear very dark brown color, deep tan head, lace stripes. Taste is toasted malt that adds a solid shot of carbonation on the swallow before moving to strong black coffee in a very long finish. Light and easy to drink, but also big-bodied and complex enough to be interesting.
3.4 Bottle poured to pint glass. Dense black-brown. Medium head. Big coffee aroma with coffee dominating the taste. One dimensional, but good nonetheless.
3.8 12 oz bottle with a bottling date of Sept. 2015. The body looks like black coffee with unusually red edges. The head is too fizzy and short lived. Aroma: cold pressed coffee and fainter dark roasted grains. Flavor. lightly sweet up front; mildly bitter by the finish. Coffee dominated but with a solid base of dark roasted malts. High quality coffee flavor. Feel: smooth, near full body with light carbonation.
3.2 Drink this one at breakfast and you wont miss your Folgers. Strong black coffee aroma with hints of licorice and smoke. Pours a rudy dark brown with a small wispy head that still trails out some beige lace. Robust cold coffee dominates the flavor to the point where there is little else to focus on. A tad on the thin side.
3.5 Bottle via SL. Poured in to a snifter, black in color almost no head. Smells solid, cold coffee, coffee beans. Taste is some slight spices, coffee and more coffee. Wish the body was a little more chewy or viscous but overall a solid beer.
3.0 355ml embossed bottle as coffee stout. Aroma is cocoa and coffee. Real nice. Flavor is iced coffee. Tart and thin. Doesn’t work for me as much as far as body and taste.
3.0 Pours black with thin tan head that dissolves quickly. Aroma is off coffee and basically nothing else. Taste is of coffee and slight malts and molasses. Coffee over powers everything and leads to a very unbalanced beer. Probably won’t buy it again but I appreciate the aggressive coffee flavor. For me, it taste more like coffee than beer, which is a problem.
4.0 Bottle pour into pint glass from Whole Foods (2015), can pour 2021. Aroma is milk chocolate, roasted malts and coffee. Appearance is almost opaque black--small area dark brown at edges of glass with nice sparkle, 1/2 width off white milky head with nice sticky lacing. Taste is moderately bitter roasted malts, coffee and baker's chocolate. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin, smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, a mix of sweet and bitter that goes a little over the edge toward bitter dominance (2021). A little thin.
3.5 Pours a dark black. Has a roasted coffee aroma. Has a strong roasted coffee and grain taste with malts and chocolate. A grainy and roasted malt aftertaste.
3.8 I poured it from the bottle into a glass. It pours a very dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is big on roasted coffee. The taste is also huge on coffee with hints of chocolate and vanilla. It’s got a nice dry and roasty palate. This was tasty.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a fairly thin black with a light brown head. Smells exactly like a cup of joe! Love the aroma. Mouthfeeel it?s a little thin flavor is big coffee that gets better as it warms. Solid brew. Would love to have this on nitro.
3.5 Black, light head. Roasty dark chocolate cocoa aroma.Bit of oaky wood. Same in taste, dry roasty cocoa. Pretty good stout but have had better coffee stouts.
3.6 On tap at conrads, liberty mo. Pour is black. Not too strong, very easy drinking. Mild stout
3.3 Bottle at home. Pours deep brown to black with tan head. Dark chocolate and raisins on the nose. Flavor opens with mild fruity notes, quickly overtaken by dark chocolate. Coffee and alcohol come through on the finish, somewhat bitter and warming. Medium body. A little rough around the edges, but enjoyable.
3.5 Solid dark brown color with a good sized frothy beige head that persists. Big coffee on the aroma and creamed coffee on the flavor. Could use a big more sweetness and body to stand up to the huge coffee, but tasty just the same.
