3.8OH YES! Beautiful amber hue. Not much aroma. Huge malt taste, mixed with fresh baked biscuits, bread, butter, and dough. Thick mouthful for a marzen. Mixed in with a beautiful sweetness of honey and caramel. This is a winner!
3.512 oz bottle. Poured a clear copper color with a medium-to-small sized white head. Aroma is biscuit malts, crisp, clean notes, caramel malty sweetness. Taste is sweet and malty.
2.9Clear, dark golden pour with light beige foam that lasted moderately. Caramel malts in the nose and a touch of floral hops. Light body, active fizz. Sweet finish. Malts dominate the taste.
3.5Tap at Rattle clean copper pour. Nose and taste are the same light malts, hintbof dries leaves, cellar floor, and caramel. Crisp and pretty good
3.1Light malt and mineral aroma. Golden copper color, light head. Light malt flavor with a mild hop presence. Hop aftertaste lingers. Medium body and light to medium carbonation.
3.4Pours orange amber from bottle. . Bready malts predominantly. Some light happiness.
3.0Draft at the Taproom on Locust Street. The Octoberfest poured a clear Amber color with off white head and lacing. The beer aroma was of caramel malts. The balanced beer had a medium bodyw with average carbonation. The finish was smooth with some sweetness.
3.212 ounce bottle. Pours a clear copper with a decent off-white head. Mild aroma of malt, caramel, and yeast. Taste is malt, caramel, yeast, and some fruit. Decent.
3.7An amber color with a white head. The aroma smells like Fall no seriously. A lot of caramel, orange, and earthy aromas. The flavor is crisp and slightly malty with a good balance of flavors. Some caramel mixed in with citrus going on here. Some bready notes. Well freaking done on this one!
3.7I rated this blind and was surprised to find it was Schlafly since it was not terrible. It’s slightly lighter than a typical American Oktoberfest w/ a white hed. It’s got a floral hop nose w/ nice nutty/toasty malt charter w/o being sweet. This is a clean and well brewed beer. I’m into it.
2.7Aroma is a little more spicy than other Oktoberfests with a good deal of malt, but the smell should have been stronger - it’s a little weak. Very pretty color and virtually no head to get in the way. Sweet taste, starts out caramel like a traditional Oktoberfest but it has a bad aftertaste. Weird sour corn flavor after the sip. I found myself having to take another drink just to get the aftertaste out of my mouth. Palate is also weak - watery, not thick enough to justify its lack of carbonation. Not a fan. I know it is sacrilege for a St. Louis guy to criticize a Schlafly beer, but I think they could do better than this. Many superior Oktoberfest beers out there.
3.2355ml bottle. Slightly lighter oktoberfest pour. Very clean and basic malty aroma. Very light and unoffensive lager, like their summer lager but a bit bolder.
3.3DATE TASTED: September 12, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Sam Adams lager... OCCASION: Licking the wounds of a 6-0 Division 5 soccer drubbing... APPEARANCE: beautifully effervescent copper body with a sudsy, soapy, creamy head that settles neatly to a tangible ring--a picture-perfect start! Lacing is commensurate with its beer level... AROMA: soft caramel and biscuit, with a buttery suggestion; some iron/rust hints as well... PALATE: smooth, almost swift in its attempt to reach the throat; mildly effervescent, despite its appearance; weak aftertaste; definitely sessionable--almost too much so... TASTE: the caramel is the dominant flavor, though it is understated in comparison to other fests; sweet with the suggestion of apple and pear, odd in the style; some metallic Saaz ping to boot--the profile is an odd mashup...OVERALL: After having heard great things about Schlafly, I am surprised by this offering’s rather askew taste profile; the body is smooth and enticing, but the payoff is a beefed-up macro rinser...
3.1Pours clear amber with a thick off white head. Aroma is malty but muted. Taste is heavy malt with medium carbonation on the tongue. Has a funky aftertaste, very yeasty. Not bad.
3.7Clear brownish orange pour with minimal white head. Aroma is mild yeasty. Taste is sweet grass. Nice.
3.2Pour on tap at the brewpub, clear orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of toast, yeast, bread into a bit of biscuit, some slight caramel into a bit of grass, herbal notes. Taste was a mix of grass, herbs, slight red fruit into some caramel, toasted bread, hints of grain, finishing slightly sweet.
3.2Это пиво вкусное. я, конечно, рекомендую его всем, что любит хорошую Craft пива!
3.3butterscotch and biscuit notes on palate and aroma; pretty nice example of the style
3.9Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a slightly orange hue to it. Almost no head on this one and any bubbles are gone quickly. Aromas of honey, dough, apple juice. Flavor is a nice mix of malty sweetness and light fruit. Very nice Oktoberfest.
2.5I think this is a little past its prime. Pours a little brown with OK head and lacing. A little bit of a sour mash aroma. Bottle.
3.4Bottle. Pours a copper orange with a thin lacing white head. Aroma of caramel, bread and grains. Flavor was malty & sweet with caramel, toasted malts, bread, grassy hops and some mild spices.
3.4Pours cloudy amber color with a soapy white head. Aroma of caramel malt, toasted malt, an bread. Caramel flavor with toasted malt, bread, and hint of spice. Very nice!
3.6Pours a lightly hazy burnt orange with a thick beige head that settles slowly, leaving some spots of lace. Nose involves caramel, toasted malt, cellar-ish notes, and some noble spice. Fairly sweet, fairly bitter, in balance. Medium bodied, oily, fairly active, with a lingering toasty bitter and dry finish. Really nice and drinkable, hits the style over the head.
3.4Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a standard tulip glass. Pours a dark copper color with a small white head. Small amount of lacing. Malty taste with a little bit of bitterness. Overall not a ton of flavor for an Oktoberfest beer. Not bad, but nothing special.
3.7Balanced, malty Marzen style. Not overly strong but nice flavor. Enjoy and would do again.
2.9Bottle. Amber, orange color. Medium head. Not one of the better Oktoberfest beers. Taste and aroma was malty but there were some off taste and off aromas.
2.2Smells and tastes like a frat house. Disappointing for an Oktoberfest. Golden in color. Bland.
3.812oz bottle shared. Poured a coppery orange with fluffy white head. A nice malty aroma with a hint of spice. The flavor is very smooth and malty. Very easy to drink. One of the better octoberfest beers I have had.
3.9Drinking from a standard pint glass. 12oz bottle. Bought at local grocery store.
Aroma: Bready. Like a pretzel. Very autumnal. a hint spice. Kind of barnhouse smell.
Appearance: Nice dark copper/orange. Decent head. fizzed out. Not much lacing.
Taste: Malt and Caramel. Crisp and Clean. A hint of spice. Very bready. Sweet like dinner roll.
Palate: Not too light, it still has some substance. average carbonation.
A good beer to usher in the fall. I’ve had Schlafly’s Pumpkin Beer and it is a better beer in my opinion. Some have found that beer to be too sweet. I think Schlafly’s Oktoberfest would be a nice beer for those who found the pumpkin beer to be too much, while still wanting a beer that epitomizes the flavors of fall. Does this make me want to take a plane straight to Germany? No. Does it make for a good beer to watch the Football game with the guys and not have to resort to drinking Budweiser, or worse? Yes.
3.5Light amber pour with a copper core and a 2 finger creamy white head that has great retention and leaves decent lacing. Aroma is nice toast and cereal, a hint of caramelized grain, some leafy fruitiness, doughy yeast, a little grass and light spiciness. Flavor is pretty deep caramel up front, some biscuit, a little toffee, light citrus, lots of toast, a helping of spicy hops, dry grass and prairie wildflower floral notes. The more I drink the more the earthy, planty floral notes and to a lesser extent the citrus take over. Medium body, creamy to chewy entry, medium, somewhat sharp carbonation and off dry, slightly chewy finish. Good stuff, pretty hoppy for a Märzen , but it still pulls off a nice balance.
