Schlafly Pilsner

Schlafly Pilsner

This golden-colored, medium-bodied lager has plenty of German and Czech hops for smooth bitterness and aroma.

2.9 Bottle. Lightly sour corn and barley malt aroma. Bright yellow with nice white head. Sweet barley malt and hay flavor with a hint of lemon. Decent flavor but more in line with a Premium Lager as hops are pretty subdued.
2.8 Had at the Tap Room in St. Louis in the summer of 2011. Not a fan of the style. This is a micro lawnmower beer. But a bit pricy for that.
3.3 12oz bottle from IPB. Appearance : Clear pale yellow with medium foamy white head. Nice lacing. Aroma : Crisp citrusy hops with chewy malty cereals. Slightly grainy. Light sweet malty notes. Taste : Bitter hops with malt and light herbal notes. Fairly astringent bitterness. Finish malty with herbal hops. Rather dry on the finish with bitter hops. Palate : Average carbonation. Overall : Fairly average pilsner but not bad. A bit too bitter, well the bitterness is a bit too edgy. Malt is rather expressive. Mixed spicy notes on the finish. Ok but nothing special.
2.6 Pleasing fresh-beer aroma on uncapping which dissipates quickly. Light-bodied pour with a modest head. Very pale and surprisingly cloudy for a Pilsner; in appearance, more like a pale unfiltered wheat beer. Taste was pleasantly dry and crisp with just a hint of bitterness. Unfortunately, that bitterness lingered on the palette a bit too long, resulting in a bitter overall impression. If the bitterness could be brought into balance, this would be an excellent Pilsner.
3.0 Hazy yellow pour with sone metallic notes...taste is similar with some citrus...prety decent pils
3.4 My Bottom Line: A whisper of lemon and herbs tickles this Pilsener’s hay-like malts for a easygoing example of the style. Further Personal Perceptions: -A creamy head of foam covers the clear straw. -The flavor profile is a tad tired. The hops lack a soothing bite and the malts lack crispness. -Some hop spiciness develops bitterness in the finish. -I need to try a fresher bottle than the one we just got here through private imports. Bottle.
2.9 Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a nice gold color with a small white head. The nose is rather muted with a little bit of musty grain. The flavor has a slight malt sweetness with a touch of grain and a nondescript bitterness on the back end. It lacks crispness and bitterness. It just seems like a clumsy attempt. Much better examples are available on the shelf.
3.5 Pale yellow pour with a white head. Aroma is sweet malt. Taste is sweet malt with a crisp finish. Good cleansing pilsner. OK lacing
3.4 12oz bottle from Party Source. Shared with b3shine. Bottled with love on 12/28/2012. Mostly clear golden yellow color. Thin white head. Good lace. Smooth, crisp lighter carbonation, more dry in the finish. Nice balance of bready pilsner malts and crisp light bitter hops. Satisfyingly hoppy, a bit more on the hoppy side than your typical pils, which I like. Nice mild bitter taste. Good pilsner, even at 5 months old. Another solid brew schlafly.
3.0 Bottle to taster (thanks DrSilverworm). Looks solid; a transparent gold with white lacing. Smells doughy, lightly hoppy, and pleasantly skunky. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel (could use more of a pilsner snap). An easy-drinking tick.
3.0 The aroma is subtly like sweet bread yeast with it becoming progressively more sour as it sits in the glass, and the appearance is more complex than your normal beer with a pale yellow color due to the medium white head, the bubbliness, and the slightly hazy quality. The taste is mildly sour and a touch sweet, and the palate combines a medium body, average carbonation, abrupt finish, and a slick texture.
2.6 Draft at Baileys Range. Pours clear yellow with a thin white head. Kind of grainy on the nose. A little malty on the tongue. No real hop flavor to speak of. It’s better than Bud but not particularly compelling.
3.4 Tap @ Schlafly St. Louis. Pours a clear yellow appearance with an off white head. Sweet pils malty, floral, straw aroma. Fairly sweet, husky pils malty, herbal flavor. A little sweet but tasty.
3.0 On tap at Schlafly Taproom. Pours a yellow color with white head. Malty, straw, grainy flavors.
3.2 Draft. Clear yellow color, medium white head. Aroma of slightly sweet straw start, then light citrus. Taste is crisp and clean. Not bad.
3.5 Not a bad pilsner. Grassy, biscuity, with a medium body with some slightly sweet caramel and lemon notes. Not bad.
3.0 Clear yellow with a white head. Dough and hay aroma. Taste is light honey malt with a dry, bitter finish. Probably better fresh.
3.8 Pours pale, hazy yellow with a small white head. Smells light and grainy sweet. Taste is of sweet grain. Light bodied, wet texture, fizzy mouth-carbonation, Schlafly Pilsner finishes with a grainy lager bitterness.
2.8 Good beer easy drinking. No complaints. Pours golden with fading head. Nothing bad or good about it. This is a bad rating
3.7 Clearish yellow, good carbonation mild head with fairly nice frothyness. Aroma is good with a light mild spicey lemon citrus floral mild bread, mild sweetness.Typical lager mineral notes. Good mouthfell ,medium body, nice sweetness, with a spicey german quality character, citrus kinda lemon, light tartness mild spice and noticable light sweetness in the finish.More enjoyable pilsner than many Ive had.
2.9 earthy, pale, clear, light body, thin feel, not very exciting but decent session beer for a hot day, I wouldn’t turn it down at a picnic, but I wouldn’t bring it either. This brewery has better beers.
3.6 Pours a clear gold with a white head and lacing. The aroma has some wheat, pale malts, and some grassy hops. It has a clean taste, with some grass and wheat up front with a crisp, slightly hoppy finish and a fizzy body.
3.3 pours golden. Nose is very fruit and slightly sweetly oxidized and some malt richness. Flavor is rich malts with an odd fruity hop and ester profile. not bad but a little on the weird fruity side for me.
3.4 Small white head atop crystal clear straw body. Aroma is medium sweet, spicy, some straw. taste is medium sweet, spicy, some grassy. Light-medium body, fairly crisp.
3.7 3 week old bottle - always a plus. Clear golden pour. Smooth white head stays around for a while. Great balance in the bread and floral scents. Easy drinking and crisp. Light body with lots of carbinaiton. More bready than most other plisners I have had, and it works very well here.
3.3 Draft at the Good PIe. Bright gold beer with a thin head. Faintly sourish grainy nose. Bready taste with crisp bitterness and lightly sweet finish. Ought to be filling large plastic cups at Busch Stadium, including mine.
2.6 Draft at the brewery in August 2011 (just found the notes!). Poured a clear golden with a medium-sized white head. Good noble hop aroma but with a strong note of ... mustiness. Caramel malt. Mildly bitter. A bit thin.
3.7 Good pilsner malt aroma. No hop aroma. Light golden color with decent head that leaves a lingering trace after it dissipates. Nice hop flavor. Not overly bitter, but the hop flavor is dominant. Hop flavor lingers quite a while. Malt is present but is overshadowed by the hop flavor. I enjoy the aftertaste. The mouth feel is very pleasant. Good drinkable pilsner that I would enjoy drinking a lot of.
