Schlafly Tasmanian IPA (TIPA)

Schlafly Tasmanian IPA (TIPA)

Schlafly Tasmanian IPA is brewed with 100% Australian hops. The Tasmanian hop, Galaxy, is a strong, aromatic variety that is different from traditional strains of the Pacific Northwest. Our brewers developed a recipe that showcases the hop’s unique flavors of citrus and pineapple.

3.1 Pours a medium gold with minimal white head. Smells faintly of citrus, tropical fruit. Taste is mild, kind of dull - hint of citrus - mildly sweet not really bitter. Not an unpleasant taste but a big disappointment.
3.5 Bottle. Cloudy pale yellow with foamy off-white head, citrus aroma, medium carbonation, lightly bitter citrus taste, thin body, medium bitter citrus peel finish. Smooth and citrusy, nice brew.
3.3 Pours clear and golden. Aroma is a bit off-putting, almost smells a little sour. Moderate carbonation with smooth taste, heavy on the galaxy hops, piney with bitter finish. A true IPA.
4.0 Thanks to iNBe. Citrus tropical fruits, decent malt backbone. Good. Serving: Bottle
3.5 From 12 ounce bottle purchased at Crown Liquors #14 in downtown Indianapolis, tasted on March 26, 2016. Very cloudy orange/yellow hue, very intense bittersweet nose with pine notes and an earthiness I’ve seldom if ever encountered in an IPA, smooth but firm bittersweet taste with ample hops, citrus and earthiness. Really good beer and interesting for style.
3.6 A good beer. Strong IPA flavors. Lots of hops, lots of alcohol. Floral and fruity aroma, comes through a little in the finish as well.
3.7 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold color with a finger-thick off-white head that lasts leaving some nice lacing. Aroma is of fresh citrus hops. Medium body, taste is a nice balance of citrus hops and malt. Grapefruit and pineapple work well here. Finish is slightly dry with the citrus lasting well after the swallow. Very good!
3.9 Smells and tastes like tropical fruit juice. Big pineapple, mango and papaya. Very fresh and delicious. I like that breweries are using different varieties of hops to mix it up a bit. This one is definitely a win and my first beer from these guys. Absolutely delicious. Cheers.
3.7 One of the better ones that I’ve had from this brewer. Seems like a West-Coast style. Nice strong citrusy hops with just enough malt to balance out. Has a semi-cloudy light orange appearance. I wouldn’t mind sampling this one again if I could.
3.8 12 ounce bottle. Hazy gold color. Frothy white head with nice clinging lace. Faint fruity malt nose. Bittersweetet hops upfront. Notes of mango and sweet citrus. Nice balance between malt and hops yield a flavorful IPA. Some bready notes in finish. Overall a very good IPA.
3.5 Pours a hazy golden yellow from the bottle with fluffy off-white head that dissipates to leave moderate lace. Aroma of bready sweet malts and earthy dank hops. Taste follows, bittersweet finish. This is not an ideal batch of galaxy, but not a bad IPA.
3.3 Bottle. Hazy golden. Grapefruit aroma with hints of earth. Taste is bitter grapefruit peel, cat pee (I don't know what cat pee tastes like but the taste reminds me of the smell for some odd reason), soap, and light floral notes.
3.9 12oz bottle, courtesy of gregwilsonstl, pours with a crystal clear pure gold body that supports a thin white head. The aroma offers up sweet cantaloupe and clementine and mango to go along with a spicy garlic like hoppiness in the background. The taste delivers a hoppy bitter bite with grapefruit, spicy onion and pineapple. To midway mild juicy citrus and tropical fruit notes are noticed and lightly sweetened by the subtle soft sweet malt base. Solid IPA with up front fruity hop bitterness.
3.4 Bottle. (thanks Wolff) A bit hazy golden/yellow with a large head. Aroma and taste of citrus, hops, some pineapple and hay. Medium body and with a bitter finish. A descent one.
3.9 12 ounce bottle. Pours a bright orange color with a large white head. A big citrus nose, tropical, some biscuit. Rich orange tea, soft citrus, fluffy, biscuit sweet malts. Galaxy hops showcased so well here. Kinda funky. Very good.
4.1 Great show case of Galaxy hops. Great passion fruit and pineapple hop derived fruitiness. Yum! Some galaxy hopped IPAs have a slight grassy background taste but Schlafly TIPA pulled off the use of Australian hops very tastefully. So sad it is not a ear round offering.
4.3 Bottle (and a low fill line!) [bottled on 09/11/2015 -- wow, this tastes much, much fresher]. Nose is heavy rind and citrus juice, touch pineapple an tropical fruit, pine. Pours brilliant orange-golden with a dense cream head, thin lace. Taste dry with a little residual hop sweetness, starting to really crank the authentic pineapple toward the finish; bitterness is high, light tang to match the fruitiness, fullish body is crisp and snappy. Touch resin and mineral in the finish, very faint vegetal, just enough for character, and more lemon and faint tangerine. Fresh pine, some grapefruit (it’s mostly generic ’citrus,’ even if it does play well against the distinct pineapple). Clean with controlled alcohol, no heat. Just enough grainy pils-type malt underneath to balance somewhat, but on the whole, if you said this were 11oz of fruit juice with an ounce of beer added, I think most people would believe you. A real showcase for this hop. Impressive! [2015.11.29: 4.3]
3.4 Bottle. Deep gold in color with a tad of a hazy look. Small to medium head with quite a bit of lace. Aroma was very strong citrus, grapefruit and pineapple. Taste was overwhelmingly grapefruit with hints of orange peel, pineapple and spruce.
3.3 slightly hazy yellow color with a thin white head. aroma is strong citrus and pine hopes. Flavor is more pine than citrus and light malts.
3.3 Pours a slightly hazy, pale golden yellow color with straw colored hues and a one finger, frothy white head that slowly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Pretty good retention with spotty lacing coating the glass on the way down. Earthy, floral aroma with lots of oily hops and pine needle countered by subtle citrus fruit sweetness and a pale malt backbone. Dank and resinous with fresh buds, grass and pine sap followed by faint hints of grapefruit, pineapple and orange peel. Some biscuit-y malts in there as well with hints of bread and light fruit. The hops are fresh and juicy but since they primarily use Galaxy/Austrailan hops, I was expecting more of tropical/citrus presence in the nose. Medium body with tight carbonation and a blast of dry, earthy bitterness that lingers over the sweeter notes and pale malt backbone into a bone dry finish. A bit sweeter than the nose suggests but the flavor is dominated by sticky, piney hops. Very dry with lots of resinous hop oils, grassy pine needle, spruce tip and dank nuggets. This is followed by a subtle summit/onion flavor and a bit of juicy tropical fruit sweetness. Hints of grapefruit, pineapple and lemon peel cut through the bitterness but it could use a lot more to balance things out. Underneath, there’s a subtle pale malt backbone that provides hints if bread, biscuit and some sweeter light fruit flavors, especially apple. The mouthfeel falls off a bit toward the end of the palate, finishing slightly watery. The ABV is nicely masked making this beer pretty easy to drink but the hop flavors are slightly one dimensional. There’s not enough sweetness for my preference and the summit/onion flavor comes on very strong toward the back end with an unpleasant lingering aftertaste.
2.9 Drank this out of a twelve ounce bottle, thank you Danny! Has a very hoppy aroma. Has a good flavor for an IPA but the hop profile has a bit of a spice to it.
3.5 [7617-20150908] 12floz bottle. Bubblegum pine needle gum aroma. Slightly hazy, pale orange body with long-lasting creamy off-white head. Lightly buttered pine cones and grassy straw flavour. Medium body. Interesting. (7/3/7/3/15) 3.5 (w/ Ferris, jercraigs)
3.6 Breaking my anti-Schlaf to try their top rated IPA.Sorry bro. Bottle from Cork in Rockford. Yellow golden pour almost no head. Aroma has heavy citrus, fruits, and light pine; a bit raw. Taste is of citrus, other fruits, chewy resin, light pine. Medium bodied, very dry hopped. Finishes more bitter than sweet. Solid effort. 13.8
3.5 I’ve tried a couple of other Aussie Galaxy-hopped beers previously, and they didn’t blow me away, but they were good. This one has that unique Aussie Galaxy hops flavor with maltiness that’s sort of similar to English IPAs. It’s very good, though the ABV is just a tiny, tiny bit too obvious for me. Glad I tried it....another Schlafly beer that doesn’t suck, good job guys.
4.0 a little earthy, but mainly lemon and orange peel hop fest. good from start to finish. easy drinking yet super flavorful.
2.8 Cant believe the ratings on this one. Sampled on tap at Mile, pours clearish golden with small head and lace. Notes are grape perfume, and grape lollipop but no dank galaxy. Medium bodied.
3.7 Bottle on Saturday afternoon this was hiding in back of fridge forgot I had. Yellow orange beer with lemon, orange peel, and scallion on the nose. Tastes of lemongrass, orange peel, pears, light pine, scallion, some melted sugar. Sweet and light hides alcohol very easy drinking.
3.9 Opaque gold appearance with a medium sized white head and decent lacing. Restrained aroma of citrus and resin. Flavors of coarse grains bounce off the different nuances of the Galaxy hops. Moderately bitter, spicy aftertaste. Medium bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel with a dry, long lasting finish.
4.1 Received in trade from gregwilsonstl, thanks for the opportunity! slightly hazy light golden color. Dripping with tropical fruity piney hop goodness and just enough bready malt to bring it all together. Very nice IPA!
3.9 Balanced, juicy floral citrus flavors pick up a hint of ginger on the back of the palate, lingering with intense floral and pine hops that linger long.
