Schlitz

Schlitz

Since 2001, contract-brewed for Pabst Brewing (San Antonio), as Pabst no longer owns a brewery of its own. The old time Schlitz purchased from Stroh’s which was purchased from Joseph Schlitz. Different than Schlitz Malt Liquor.

There is also a listing for "Schlitz Classic 1960s Formula". Please note version, and rate in the appropriate entry.

3.0 Poured into dof tumbler, small bubbles with overall lively carbonation. Medium-light bodied, overripe citrus, baking sourdough bread.
2.3 Originally rated on 9/19/08. Pretty average american macro, comparable to the buds, coors and millers of the world. Flavor of corn, a little malt and hops. Not the worst thing out there.
4.7 This is the rebound of an ancient 60’s Classic. Gone is the ABM method that tanked this monolithic brew in the 80’s and 90’s. This brand has been re-re-born promising to echo yesterday-years greatness by embracing those Druidic incantations and magical utterances used prior to the greedy catastrophe. Not found in Virginia - yet - but soon...soon...soon
3.1 This is a real old fashioned great beer It wasn’t No 1 back in the 60’s for nothing!!
1.5 Can sent to me as a joke, but I’m actually quite glad I got to try this! Pours clear light yellow with a lot of white foam that quickly disappears. Corny taste. Slightly earthy hop nose with a hint of butter in the nose. Metallic finish.
1.6 I had this one in New Orleans. It’s a light beer and I thought it was kind of a joke. It’s bad.
1.0 Going through old beers With nostalgia this morning. Pretty much bad even for bad beer standards. Piss and cardboard.
2.0 Bright yellow pour from draft at Baumgartner in Monroe, WI. White creamy head. Fruit and wheat aroma. Balanced lager. Expected it to be gross and it wasn't. Had it before a bunch of times but forgot about it
2.9 This was recently brought back to South Carolina with the "Classic 60s Formula" tag removed. Was the recipe changed again???tastes of sugary malt, corn, and barley. It does not taste like the great beer I had 2 years ago which was Schlitz Gusto.
0.5 Chugged a pound of this testing beers for the beer mile. Nothing redeeming about this swill
0.6 "pee water all the way here. had it in a can, so no skunk, but GAWD is it horrible. Again, why bother...there’s gotta be better ways to get a buzz, right? gotta be..."
0.7 This is what I drank as a teenager in New York when I didn’t know better, couldn’t afford anything else, and didn’t have much choice. Typical boring lager.
1.7 12oz bottle. Poured a golden color with a small sized head. Yep, it’s a Schlitz!
1.6 Again, drank a lot of this in college before developing a real palate. Gold pour with skunked grains on the nose and palate.
1.4 Bottle from old backlog notes 07. Pours a clear pale yellow color with a medium sized white head. Typical sweet grainy, corn, light grassy aroma of macro pale lagers. Moving on.
2.2 Page crystal golden with a bubbly head like cola. Inoffensive pale malt aroma. Inoffensive pale malt and light wheat flavour. Dry, sorta refreshing, very light bitterness. I feared it would be worse, however this is actually ok. Better than BMC, for sure.
1.6 Clearish goldn pour, small bright white head. Sour rubbery lager yeast aroma, hint of citrus rind and cream. Average carbonation, thinner but bubbly mouthfeel, dry finish. Taste is grainy and every so slightly sweet, no detectable bitter. Easy tasting decent american lager.
1.8 12oz bottle (Old Notes)-Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma of corn, grains, and malt. Taste of grains and malt. This light bodied brew was the thing in the past.
1.1 Had a taste of this at the bar last night - someone was joking about craft beer connoisseur-ship. As I said then, papery taste of garbage with some piss. Yum.
1.0 Possibly the worst beer I’ve ever had. Wasn’t it passable tho back in college?
3.1 Ever since they brought back the original recipe from the 1960’s I will drink it on occassion. Decent tasting beer. Not the best I’ve had but not the worst. Worth drinking.
0.5 I recall buying this since it was so cheap and I’m pretty sure I drank an entire 12pack once and just peed all night and felt bloated.
3.4 pours a clear yellow color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. the aroma is sweet, wet grass, corn. the taste is very similar and quite enjoyable.
2.3 Can. A- Grains, grass, cereal. A- Yellow color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Grains, water, cereal, slightly malty. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, watery finish. O- An old school pale lager. This is what your grandpa drank. Leave it to him.
1.9 On a Christmas trip to Milwaukee. When in Rome.... Drank from the can. S - aromas of light bready malts, honey, floral notes. M - light and easy. T - this tastes like 'Merica! Well actually it just tastes like a corona.... But whatever. O - drinks like a cold glass of water. 1.9
2.2 It is hard to be objective when rating this, because in college, it was the # 1 beer in America, and I agreed. Then the recipe changed, and that was it. Now it tries to make a comeback, but I’ve moved so far beyond the modest expectations of the original, that I don’t know how to treat it. It was instrumental in getting me started, so it deserves at least a 2.2.
2.5 This is a cheap beer, simple not much to it................................
2.6 Clear pale golden, frothy white head, vanishes quickly, no lacing; malty nose, corn, herbal hops; light sweet, slightly bitter; medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation; crisp medium bitter finish.
3.1 Basic adjunct lager with a bit of extra malt and grain in the bill. Not a great beer, but a good buy. A little cheaper than your BMC and little more taste. It’s not going to blow anyone away, but based on it’s reputation, you’d think it was undrinkable. It’s not undrinkable. Busch is undrinkable. Schlitz is fine if you’re on a budget or want a pale adjunct lager. Must have changed things up from the days when the brand got ruined back in the day.
2.0 tap. golden with small head. tastes like an old-school lager. decent amount of mild malt. for what it is, this isn’t bad at all.
