Schloss Eggenberg Samichlaus Classic Barrique
Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6 and is aged for 10 months in steel tanks and 5 weeks in oak barrels from winery Anton Bauer in Feuersbrunn. This special lager is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years, older vintages become more complex with a creamy, warm finish. This beer can be served with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particularly with chocolates or as an after dinner drink by itself.

Bottle. Vintage 2016. Clear mahogany colour with a small fine pored tan head, nose is malty, roasty, nutty and slightly boozy with notes of dark bread crust, raisins, nougat and oak, taste is very sweet, bready and roasty with a relatively dry and boozy finish.
Barrique 2020 aged on Chardonnay. Clear light brown colour with quick fading head. This is packed with sweet honeyed malts. Subtle dried fruits. It's sweet but not cloying. Quite luxurious.
Pour ma 3000 ème étrangère, en ce jour mémoriel des 200 ans de la
disparition d'un nabot, j'ai choisi une bière autrichienne .. quoi de mieux
pour nous qui avons fait partie (en partie) des pays " bas " autrichiens …
Ceci me rappelle donc les 200 ans de Waterloo en 2015, que je suis allé
fêter, bien entendu, avec le bruit assourdissant du canon .. mais c'était
pour la bonne cause. Après cela, on a envoyé le nabot se prélasser sur un
rocher en plein milieu de l'océan (on était enfin certain qu'il la ferme …).
Quoi que … il s'est permis d'y rédiger des mémoires … mais on s'en tape !
Doppelbock donc (bel enchaînement maître Capello, loin d'être un nabot,
même si sa taille ne dépassait pas 3 nourrains .. dans le sens de la largeur ..)
mais je m'égare, puisque nous allons passer au plus sérieux qui est ici (hic)
le titrage de 14 % abv, en bouteille de 75 cl capsulée (malheureusement .. ).
Cette version barriquée est mûrie en fûts de vin de chez Anton Bauer (pro-)
venant de sa vigne de Feuersbrunn .. nous verrons si cela lui rapporte gros )
A noter quand même qu'il s'agit seulement de 5 semaines en barrique ..
Mon exemplaire était de l'édition de base en 2014 .. il avait donc 7 ans ..
le bougre .. (tiens, c'est un terme qui se rapporte aussi au nabot … même
s'il a été sacré .. mais nous entrons dans des considérations sémantiques ..)
J'ai versé ensuite le breuvage dans un verre de collection qui aurait fait bavé
d'envie ceux qui ont participé aux enchères d'aujourd'hui à Fontainebleau …
(fétichisme et atavisme font parfois bon ménage .. !! J'y mettrais 0 cent … )
Couleur roux ambré aux reflets diamantés, d'une clarté limpide.
Bulles inexistantes, tel un beau vin d'Anton Bauer ..
Mousse inexistante, tel un beau vin d'Anton Bauer .. je crois qu'on se répète
Arômes de figue, raisins secs, dattes, noisettes, pointe de cognac (jay)
1ère bouche dont on ne dit pas la valeur, tant elle plante le décor magnifique
Arrière-bouche avec des allures de cognac que j'ai dégusté sur place (Cognac)
dans une édition très limitée .. (vers 2014 … comme le vin d'Anton ...)
2ème bouche qui commence à arranger la galerie (dans le style empire .. )
Arrière-bouche qui dit que pire est à l'empire ce que mieux est à milieu …
(là, je me suis foulé, mais je vous dispense d'applaudir .. quand même !!)
Longueur qui est une divinité grecque . (je préfère cela à l'Egypte qui a
séduit le nabot .. on devine pourquoi … cet appétit de grandeur quand on
est tout petit est absolument logique .. et digne d'une analyse psy .. )
Jambes lisses, finement huileuses, très longues (on dirait Marilyn ...)
Levure de classe
Alcool sublime, il dépasse le vin en puissance, et absolutise la longueur ..
(un terme que le nabot aurait voulu pour lui, mais il n'est pas à la hauteur)
Finale absolument divine
CONCLUSION : attention, c'est le verdict .. (ne parlons pas de celui du nabot,
il est fait depuis longtemps, et il va enfin nous foutre la paix .. )
Joli jeu de mots, maître Capello, pour quelqu'un qui a détruit les peuples,
y compris le sien … mais c'est un détail !! A ce propos, un détail précis du
discours de Manu lors de la cérémonie .. " Napoléon, c'est la vie " (!!!!)
Je vous laisse méditer cet ignoble affront .. (pour 6 millions de morts … ).
Le verdict donc .. : Anton n'a rien apporté à la version de base classic,
malgré sa vigne située dans la belle Autriche des pays (bas) autrichiens ..
Au contraire il a retranché à une brasserie qui aurait pu avoir un 5 total !
Mais il y en a bien d'autres qui n'ont rien apporté … pas vrai le nabot ?
(et qui ont par contre retranché la vie en masse .. dont les esclaves .. )
Nous sommes enfin débarrassés de l'ogre .. Paix aux esclaves.
Bottle at home. Slightly reddish dark brown amber colour, foamy beige head. Lots of portorized, nutty dried fruits, vinous, vanilla oak, wine, boozy. Okay red fruity linger. Firm body, sticky, low carbonation.
(Bottle, vintage 2010) Dark brown colour with brief, beige, foamy head. Malty, roasted, vinous nose with black rye bread, raisins, prunes, coffee, liquorice, wood and molasses. Malty, roasted, fruity taste with notes of black rye bread, coffee, liquorice, burnt sugar, dried fruit, raisins, prunes, caramel, dark cherries (in brandy) and a sweet and vinous finish with a mild spicy bitterness. Full body, quite sweet. Harmonious and elegant, hides the 14% quite well. More balanced than expected. Excellent beer.

Donkerrood bruin bier zonder enige schuimkraag. Warme, zoete smaak met een zwarte alcoholische afdronk. Net zoals dessert wijn kan je dit een dessert bier noemen
Bottle.Muddy dark brown colour with no head.Aroma is strong warming and sweet with taste of port wine and caramel feels a bit sticky and sweet with full body.
2016 bottle I think. Medium brown, clear, flavt. Nose is caramel, treacle. some wood. Sweet and treacly, not much barrel in the flafvor. Very sweet compared to the others.
Bottle.Sweet floral, honey nose, with a zippy bit of alcohol fumes. Medium translucent brown, some floaties (not sure of the vintage, but it has a few years on it). Tasty sweet fruit, treacle, light burning alcohol, rich dark fruit. Medium body, alc. is quite noticeable on the tongue. Rich stuff, thought the barrel is not very evident.
Reddish brown with no head:
Smell of roasted malts with an applesauce note. Sweet malty taste with a wooden note and a strong alcohol flavour. Honeylike aftertaste.
Аромат не слишком яркий, но при согревание очень выразительно ощущается патока и ее сладкие нотки, также немного карамели, классические для этого стиля дрожжи и в целом хлебные нотки, в целом немного похоже на ликер. Цвет как у коньяка, пены нету и следа, вообще. Вкус просто божественен. Чувствуются сначала легкие нотки дрожжей и немного белого хлеба, уже понятно что будет весьма сладко. Также карамели больше чем при запахе. При глотке очень согревает горло. Также, патока только раскрывается в конце. Она не концентрированна а очень сбалансированна. Когда пиво еще не согрелось очень ощущалось какой то сладкий пирог, причем с яблоками. В целом просто абсолютный топ, на порядок лучше чем оригинал.
Bronze with a small head.Powerful sweet flavour.Dread to think what it did to my sugar levels. Very powerful and full bodied.Not an everyday beer but one for a cold winters night.
Aroma: Brown sugar with prunes and malt.
Flavour: Very sugary sweet with malt and prunes. Aftertaste is sticky sweet and mouthfeel is sticky and alcoholic warm.

Bronze color, clear. Aroma: very sweet, malt wine, light dried fruits and raisins, pastries, caramel, candies, white port and other fortified wine, esters, pear jam, candied fruit, very good. Taste: sweet, lollipops, liquor, dessert white wine, raisins, pear jam and candied fruits, light oak shades, very warming, great beer for winter.
0.75 l bottle from 'Hopfenrausch', 2016 vintage, cellared for almost two years. Clear, very dark reddish amber with a thin, slowly diminishing, off-white layer. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of molasses, raisins, prunes and a touch of vanilla. Very sweet, malty, a bit fruity taste of molasses, burnt sugar, raisins, prunes, some chocolate and a touch of vanilla, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, gently boozy and maybe minimally woody finish. Medium to full body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Not as boozy as expected, a bit more mellow than the regular version and a little more sophisticated with additional flavours from the oak. A pleasant winter warmer!

Bottle at home (from Easy Wine). Chestnut colour with a small, but lasting off-white head. Big malty aroma with toffee and biscuit, along with dried fruit and dessert wine. Sweet malty and fruity flavour with warming alcohol. Only a faint touch of oak rounding out the experience
Frothy white fair fully diminishing head. Red amber colour. Moderate malty and light hoppy intense vinius caramellic aroma. Moderate bitter very carammelic flavor. Alcoholic. Long intense complex finish. Creamy palate.

Dark brown colour with no head at all. Strong sweet aroma of banana bread, licorice, malt, molases, cinnamon and other spices, really complex. Intense sweet taste with a strong alcoholic flavor; hints of banana bread, chocolate, raisins, licorice, candy and dozens of spices. Sweer alcoholic aftertaste, medium body, oily texture, medium carbonation. STRONG beer, very complex sensation on mouth and nose, a must in the beer world.

They did it again. Medium head that vanishes in the blink of an eye, no lacing, pretty red colour. It's excatly like the classic, but some notes of wood. I could finish my revier here, but...
In the nose you note a lot of things as it warms: brandy, port wine, vanilla, figs, dates, chocolate, spices, nutmeg, caramel, red fruits... everything.
Full body, dense creamy texture, no carbonation. Sweet licorous finish. Taste is similar to the aroma, vanilla, chocolate, brandy, port wine, sherry wine, dates, figs, caramel, red fruitsand, as I said before, some wood.
Fantastic, wonderful... no words.
