Schmidt Beer

Schmidt Beer

Since 2001, contract-brewed for Pabst Brewing (San Antonio), as Pabst no longer owns a brewery of its own. Born in 1844, Schmidt’s beer is known as the "Official Beer of the American Sportsman"...a slogan that capitalizes on the exciting, rugged appeal of the Pacific Northwest. The quality and brewing tradition instilled by Jacob Schmidt, continues today.

1.8 Small head, white, mostly diminishing, active carbonation, light yellow, clear, malt aroma, sweet malt taste, medium body.
1.8 12Oz at wedding. Sour mild lager. Pale yellow water. Funky weak banana. Crap. Bad crap.
2.1 It’s essentially swill. A little flatter than the typical swill but otherwise, pretty similar.
0.5 Label proclaims "Premium Beer", it is no worse or better than bud or miller, animal oriented cans.
2.0 The can has a bear catching a fish in it’s mouth, making it the greatest and most powerful beer can. The beer it’s self pours a bright pale yellow with a tight medium head with lots of effervescent bubbles. The head leaves behind a pretty lacing on the glass. The aroma is corny and floral right up front. The beer smells very sweet and has light alcohol notes. Altogether the beer is pretty faint smelling but does not smell all together awful. The initial impression of the flavor is that it is pretty focused around corny and malty sweetness. This gives way to some oddities like bugspray & cereal. However this isn’t the classic "corn flake" cereal of so many pale lagers, this one is much more like a rice krispie. There is some of that multicolored sweetcorn and a mild zing from the hops is the only thing really providing much balance here.
1.2 Pale yellow with a thin white head. Nothing great going on here. OK I guess, if you’re really thirsty.
2.4 Light and pleasant aroma with a sharp crystal yellow color. Flavor was clean and fruity with a sharp degree of carbonation. Left a long sweet finish.
3.7 I’ve always enjoyed drinking Schmidt, when I’ve been able to get my hands on it (not sold in Louisiana). Schmidt has a thick, white head and a very clear, straw color. Carbonation is very high. The aroma and taste are stereotypical American style lager, although this beer might be a shade sweeter than normal. Mouth-feel is light and watery. Schmidt finishes crisp and satisfying. This one was sampled poured from a 16 oz. can. I recommend giving this beer a try. Also, I think their wildlife can and bottle designs are really attractive. RJT
2.1 Can… Clear, light yellow lager with a small, fizzy, white head. The aroma doesn’t offer much other than spicy hops and corn graininess. Nothing unpleasant; no noticeable acetaldehyde. Light-bodied and watery with fizzy carbonation. The flavor is fairly nondescript – maybe some hints of corn and pale grains with an underlying mild sweetness. Crisp, mostly clean finish. Not horrible; just not much happening here. Inoffensive with moderate drinkability.
1.6 Courtesy GodofThunder. Pale gold. Light head. Corn and rice nose, watery but clean flavor, although just a touch of corny weirdness at the end. Overall: very light and shows adjuncts.
2.6 Can. Yellow and fizzy. Surprisingly, the taste isn’t offensive, even when warm. It is just light and drinkable. Sure, it is a basic beer but there is nothing bad about it. It is smooth and I’d even say it is better than the comparable ones from the big guys like Coors, Bud and Miller.
2.2 I wonder if some people here are getting this mixed up with the East coast Schmidt’s rather than ’the brew that grew with the great northwest?’ Anyway, aside from the cool packaging, this stuff is fairly average at best. Nice appearance with a decent head, but the taste is mediocre with the presence of corn in the mix. On a recent trip to Duluth, MN, I picked up a 12 - "animal pack." Cool to see it still around, even though I miss the old beer can collecting days when they had the 21 different sportsman scenes.
2.2 Tall can. Pours a clear light yellow liquid with a medium white head. Aroma of barley and corn. Taste is watery with a barley flavor.
1.5 Clear golden bubbly beverage with a small white head. Aroma is light, some corn and light grain. Flavor, not much. Little corn sweetness and bubbly bud type body.
1.8 Pours yellow, with a white head. Aroma is subtle, corn , mostly. Flavor is corn, and maybe just a touch of hops. Body is on the the thin side. Not offensive or terrible.
3.0 As far as cheapies go, this one is fairly drinkable. It has got an unassuming flavor that is well balanced without being really bland. In this economy, I have rediscovered some of the old college brews, and I am surprised at how much better they are than 20 years ago. This does not have that "cheap beer harshness’ that so many of it’s contemporaries have.
1.2 Straight from a 12oz can. I’ve had corny beers before, but this tastes exactly like corn chips... not good at all, hard to get it down!
1.3 Sampled from a 12 oz can this beer poured a pale yellow color with a huge yellow-white head. The aroma was sour, tangy, industrial and slightly vegetal. The flavor was sour, tangy and corny with a slightly vegetal undertone and a short dryish finish. Very thin and watery. Not good.
1.7 In honor of having the privilege of the iced version had to try the premium, with the promise of all that flavor. Ha. Can Pours a golden body with a thin white head, grain, corn husk, a bit metallic and bitter. This ain’t so great either.
1.2 Pale and clear golden color with short lasting white head. Little to no aroma, if anything aroma of grain. Very little taste, prickly on the tongue, Basically hardly any characteristics to rate. It’s amazing time was spent to make this other than the fact that I paid about $2.50 for what amounts to flavored water. It doesn’t taste bad it just doesn’t taste like anything.
1.5 If you got a big thirst and you’re straight reach for a can of Schmidt’s. If you’re not straight, there’s always Schmitt’s gay. Grainy and slightly sour nose. Clear piss yellow with a white head that becomes a ring. watery grain slightly sweet flavors. Finish is grainy and somewhat cloying. In retrospect, I’d probably reach for something else.
0.8 cans w/ animals on the front . . gross . . corn, sweet, stale, metallic . . gives you the beer muds the next day . . stay away for the love of god
1.1 Draft in paper cup at the Vet. Pours a light golden with a white head. Aroma of corn. Taste is pure Philly with corn overtones. That is about it reminds me of Tuggger on the hill.
2.7 Light gold white head and lace. Wet paper, light corn, with no malt. Light cloying flavor of sweet corn. Thin and watery. Easy to drink no flavor to mention but drinkable.
1.8 I had this beer at a get togetherof college friends it was corny and had a preservative aftertaste
3.2 Kinda sour. I wasn’t impressed like I have been with other cheep beers. Not as bad as some but certainly not as good as most.
2.2 Thanks to decaturstevo for this gem! Very pale clear yellow body with a medium sized white head. No aroma, no flavor, watery.
2.0 A pale yellow color with a white head. The aroma isnt too bad with a slight malt presence. The flavor is a wack of corn but also some maltiness exists. Sure beats most BMC mainstream offerings. I dig the fish can as well.
2.0 Can from Hamilton, MT. Golden lager color. Fairly grain and somewhat sour. Maybe a hint of malt. Pretty much what I expected.
2.1 it is what it is, not terrible but nothing to get hard over either. better than most macro produced swill. on pare with schlitz, strohs & the usual suspects
