Sea Dog Riverdriver Hazelnut Porter

Sea Dog Riverdriver Hazelnut Porter

Four different malted barleys combine to create a distinctive, full-bodied beer with a roasted nuttiness, uniquely enhanced by a hint of hazelnuts. Smooth and creamy with the nose of the Willamette hop, this porter is a beer style unto itself.

3.2 English malts and coca flavor. Spicy and brown sugar. Not bad. Draft at shipyard. Not bad compared to shipyards crap beers.
3.3 From a 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear deep mahogany with an ecru head. Nutty nose. Flavors of hazel nuts and toffee. Light bodied. Bitter roast finish.
3.4 August 30, 2015 - on tap at Orlando brewpub. Brown pour with some head and lacing. Aroma was hazelnut, roasted malt and coffee. Taste was consistent with the aroma, but light on the hazelnut and had a mildly bitter finish.
3.0 Pours almost black with a ruby red glow. Thin off-white head gone pretty quickly. Nose is all hazelnut extract on malt. Almost not sure that’s not an imitation flavor. Taste is fairly sweet and simple. Not a complex brew. Quite drinkable, but not a favorite.
3.1 Bottle. Clear dark, deep brown, lights behind reveal some nice hues. Thin light tan head doesn’t last long at all. Hazelnuts in the nose, and not much else. Maybe some toasted sourdough. Very sweet, very nutty. Sugary hazelnut syrup. There’s more "beer" in the flavor, a bit of toasty bitterness, lots of sweet hazelnut and a lingering burnt character. Soft medium body, lots of fizz. A little artificial-tasting, but I don’t hate it. Enough roasty bitterness to balance out the sweet stuff.
2.7 Pours a clear very deep red/brown with a large foamy off-white head. Aromas of roasted malt, light coffee and hazelnuts. Tastes of slightly roasty but sweet and nutty malt and a hint of hops-- a bit watery. Light to medium bodied.
3.9 Bottle from Epsom Circle Market. Aroma is interesting roasted hazelnut with hints of chocolate, a little bit like cigarette ash. Appearance is nice deep clear reddish brown with 1-2 finger width creamy beige head with good retention and moderate lacing. Taste is as aroma--rich hazelnuts with hints of chocolate and smokiness, well balanced bitter and sweet. Palate is medium bodied, moderately thick and creamy, with a tad too much carbonation that bites the front of the tongue. Pleasant moderately long smokey bitter finish. Overall, this scores pretty well on every front--a real diamond in the rough! Not the most complex, but tasty.
3.1 Decent enough. Smells Amazing but the taste isn?t quite as good as the smell. The hazelnut is good and sweet but there?s a slight aftertaste. I liked it and would have again. But the smell made me think more was in store. Bottle
2.7 dark brown to black Nose is nice. aroma is certainly hazelnut heavy. taste is roasted old chocolate, some rye, kind of stale tasting but hazelnut does come through.
4.0 12 oz bottle served in a goblet. Pours a very dark brown; dark enough to be nearly opaque in the glass. Medium size tan head is creamy and has decent retention. Aroma: plenty of hazelnut and generic roasted nut notes with some dark bread and sweet caramel. The taste: Dark malts are more apparent and theres a nice bit of spicy hops. Plenty of hazelnut here too, but not overdone. Transforms from sweet upon hitting the tongue to moderately bitter in the aftertaste. M: Near creamy smooth; medium-full body; medium carbonation. O: While it is not up to the Rogue Hazelnut overall, it is a fine brew; one of the best I’ve had from this brewery. The aroma is exceptional.
3.6 Bottiglia.
3.2 Bottle (trade with non Rate Beer member); pours dark brown with thin khaki head; aroma of chocolate, roasted hazelnuts, and a hint of vanilla; taste is sweet with the roasted nuts and chocolate with hints of toffee and vanilla; light sweet and dry finish; nice porter
3.0 small sample at george r’s place .. . dark amber brown .. . ooomph .. . mild foam stuff .. . light chocolate hazelnut .. . an easy beer, pretty simple and one edged .. . . i’ve never been in cahoots with anybody, but once I got into some shenanigans with a floozy at a shindig
3.5 Negra com média formação de espuma. Aroma e sabor com notas de café e chocolatte, mais chocolate no aroma e mais café no sabor. Corpo médio, final longo, levemente adocicado e com agradável amargor tostado do malte.
3.3 This beer looks and smells good with pretty good flavor. However, the aftertaste leaves something to be desired. I’ll finish the six pack that I bought, but would not buy it again.
3.9 Bottle. Loved this beer. Dark brown color with a medium tan head. A malty roasted nut aroma. Taste was a hazelnut laced chocolate delight. Nice.
3.2 Bottle. A- Hazelnuts, chocolate, roasty, toffee. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Hazelnuts, slightly malty, cocoa, roasted, nutty, toffee. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, nutty finish. O- Pretty darn good, but not quite great. The hazelnut aroma and taste is great especially at the front, but the taste fades and leaves you with a not so great after taste. Nonetheless, this is a pretty solid brew, that with a few tweaks would be really damn good. The hazelnut is very welcomed, but it’s just lacking and not quite complex enough.
3.7 Pours nice ebony color with cherry reflects. Almost no head. Nose is caramel and coffee. Aromas are roasted malts, coffee and clearly hazelnut. Dry and coffee-nutty finish. Well balanced and pleasant beer.
3.0 Bottle 0.335l at Janoinen Lohi, Helsinki. Originally rated 22052012. Colour is brown with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Hazelnuts, nuts, chocolate, sweetness and malts.
3.1 Brown pour with a thin beige head. I was a bit wary of this but it turned out to be decent. Aroma is chocolate, sweet hazelnut, caramel, and light coffee grounds. A bit slick on the tongue, medium bodied. The sweetness is more subdued than I expected. Toffee, Chocolate, light nuttiness, and a flutter of vegetable character on the first sip. Finishes with a pleasant, mild roastiness. Not a bad beer, but don’t let it warm up too much.
3.1 12oz bottle, from Party Town. Been nervous about this one. Expecting an oversweet mess. Aroma is suprisingly nice. Good chocolate notes, and hazelnut icing. Tons of vanilla. Pretty damn nice nose. Was not expecting to enjoy this this much at all. Very dark brown/red color, clear around the edges. Little khaki head, leaves decent splotches and ropes of lace. Nice toasty, nutty, chocolatey flavor. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, lightly spicy. Sweetness is not as bothersome as I expected. Thankfully, this is not heavy, it’s not overbearing, which seems to make the sweetness tolerable. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Slick texture. Medium body. Gets sweeter towards the end, but I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed the flavor of this.
3.6 Bottle. Pours dark brown with lots of hazelnut on the nose. Flavor is pretty good actually. Hazelnut, roasted malts, sweetness with a nice mouthfeel. Surprisingly good.
3.6 This is amazingly drinkable and tasty, with a nice unique twist of the hazelnut onto the usual same old same old of roasted/toasted porter notes.
2.5 Twelve ounce bottle from the Beer Of The (Every Other) Month Club. Very dark brown/ruby hue, small tan head, firm nose of malt, something that smells like cookie dough, and hazelnuts (I guess), flavor is mostly carbonation and chemical taste with sweet malty elements as the glass warmed but mostly in the finish--too little too late.
3.1 Draught at the brewpub in Orlando. Clear brown colour with a beige head. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and nuts.
3.2 Pours a dark brown with small tan head. Smells of caramel and hazelnut. Tastes very much like hazelnut and well balanced
3.7 Pours a hazy, semi-transparent black caramel with a limited, dissipating head. Nose is a rich, nutty chocolate. Lightly caramel and chocolate on the palate with pleasant roasted coffee. Clean finish true to the style. All in all a top choice.
2.4 Pours dark red with a quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma of hazelnut and caramel. Taste is woodsy with an musty character. Mouth feel is too fizzy for my liking.
