Bottle, can (4% abv) and keg (3.9% abv): Filtered
Whitstable Bay Pale Ale is designed to suit all palates and offer a light, refreshing taste. The sweet maltiness balances perfectly with the fresh pine notes provided by the hops added late in the process, to offer a light-coloured, thirst-quenching ale.

3.6 500ml bottle brewed in England at 4%. Breezily-light clear copper with a generous, fair-duration head. Light honeyed-grain aroma, faint lemon. Moderate+ carbonation, refreshing yet fluffy texture. Light lemongrass passes through more low fruity notes (faint green melon? a tinge of underripe strawberry?) and then builds to a somewhat dark caramel-cookie-dough malt finish with just enough pine-esque bitterness to balance. Avoids veering into either suck-a-penny territory or sickly-sweet-land. Simple stuff, but really not a bad cheap 4%er. Beats the pants off cheapo lager in my book.
3.4 Piwo nawet dobre z konkretna stylowa goryczka brytyjska, slodowosc typowa i charakterystyczna dla wiekszosci piw Shepherd Neame. Leciutenki, karmel, pieczona skorka od chleba, rownomierny balans miedzy slodycza, a gorycza. Jasna klarowna barwa bursztynowa.
3.4 Bottle from Waitrose. Pours a clear golden colour with a medium sized throthy white head. Aroma is slightly metallic with notes of citrus lemon. Taste has more citrus lemon, bread and caramel. Nice earthy hop bitterness on the finish but also a bit metallic. Thin to medium body with a fairly smooth mouthfeel. Not bad but like a lot of Shepherd Neame beers i would prefer if they were not in clear bottles.
3.0 W aromacie rasowy Bitter. Jest słód, lekki karmel, żelazo, nieco ziół i nut ziemistych. W smaku trochę zbyt wodniste, słodowo-biszkoptowe, ale da się wyczuć i goryczkę. Na obecne upały może być.
3.8 Pale and slightly citrussy. Initial decent head dies away fairly quickly to a flat appearance but beer keeps some sparkle. Makes a good summer ale.
2.0 Tastes more like a lager
2.8 50 cl bottle (BBD 2021-02-28), bought from Co-Op, drunk at home 2021-02-22. Appearance is a clear pale amber with a very thin white head that lingers as the faintest trace for a surprisingly long while. Small amount of in-mouth carbonation. Bog standard English style pale. Give me more head retention please. Aroma is what you'd expect. Fair amount of grainy malt, touch of honey, hints of woodiness or orchard fruits. It's fine - maybe too much cereal and grain as it's reminiscent of lager, which is unwanted for sure. Dull but pleasant enough with enough strength to be noticeable. Taste is more of the same. Lots of cereal again, bit of honey sweetness, touch of citrus poking through, a surprisingly mild pithy bitterness towards the end. Again, dull but fine. Reasonably well-balanced but I still want less cereal and some more darker malt. Palate is fine. Medium bodied, surprising amount of in-mouth carbonation, quite clean throughout with a bit more juiciness on the surprisingly long finish. Maybe the best aspect of the beer. Overall, this is bang average. It's not unpleasant, but there are so many similar beers that are as good or slightly better. It's a fairly safe bet for an easy to buy beer, but it ain't gonna set anyone's world alight. If it were a little punchier - less grain, some slightly darker malt, touch more citrus - it would match the palate slightly better and be an all round better beer.
3.1 Old rating from 23-05-15 - 500ml bottle, pours amber with small white head. Aromas & tastes of caramel, orange peel, lemon & malt. Moderate body. Light bitter finish.
3.4 Bottle - clear, pale amber. High carbonation giving initial decent sized white head - soon dissipates to thin line. Good fruity, faint caramel aroma. Good mouthfeel. Fruity dominant taste with good bitter, caramel finish. Quite enjoyable.
2.9 Foamy white head stayed on a clear amber body. Fruity aroma. Medium bodied, smooth with a sharp back. Fruity, English hops, light malt & hints of butterscotch.
2.2 Golden brown with no head to speak of, no significant aroma - faint malt. Taste, some biscuit malt, raisins, caramel - but rather indistinct and unremarkable.
3.1 Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Appearance - golden amber with a big fluffy off-white head. Nose - caramel, brown bread, marmalade. Taste - light orange, but mainly caramel and biscuit. Palate - close to medium bodied, a touch sweeter than preferable. Overall - ok.
2.8 Clear golden orange appearance. Aroma is hops and citrus. Flavour is malt, bitter, citrus and hops.
3.0 Too watery and not too much taste at all...
2.7 Shepherd and neame Whitt’s able bay A clear refreshing pour with a good balance of malt and fruit Bottle bersion
3.7 Nice aroma easy going pleasing after taste. I think one is possibly enough
3.0 Luminous golden blonde with a short and fleeting head, lazy crackling. Aromas very malted, roasted, caramel-toffee, hop UK. The taste and body are light, with a malted softness, caramel-honey, hops. Hints of orange and zest, tea, flowers and shortbread cookies. Finish barely drier but still modest
3.1 0.5 l bottle. Pours clear deep golden with medium frothy head. A: malty, T: surprisingly there are quite roasty coffee tones in the aftertaste mainly comparing to the colour, malty, medium carbonated, thin/medium body, bitter finish, bit citrusy
4.8 Bottle from the brewery. Bright gold on pour with a thin white lacing. Cereal and bready aromas with a round, sweetish taste and a nice fizz on the tongue.
2.8 12/12/2019. Bottle(s) at Mr Fogg's Society of Exploration, Covent Garden, London WC2 (there was limited choice). Clear golden coloured with a small just off-white head. Aroma of fruit, malt, grain, caramel and flowers. Medium plus sweetness and moderate bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily and watery texture, average to soft carbonation. Nicer bittersweet finish which improved it as it took some of the sweetness away. It’s ok.
2.9 Bottle as a gift. Pours copper and completely clear, lasting white foam head. Malty sweet ale, well carbonated, has a fruity sweet English hoppy finish. Quite enjoyed it!
2.7 Bottle. Pours a clear deep golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma of sweet grains, slight vegetable and subtle subtle citrus. Taste of sweet grains, slight fruit and mineral water. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A sweet, grainy finish. Not a lot of flavour, if any it’s grains. Not good.
3.5 Clear amber with little rimminng head Aroma is grainy malt with hop spice notes Flava is rich malt grainy backbone balanced by nice hoppiness Feels light with nice fizzy foaminess Finishes dry grainy mildly hoppy
3.2 zapach dość rześki, niezbyt intensywny, trawa, kwiaty, zielone rośliny, odrobina lekko karmelowych słodów gdzieś w tle. kolor jasnomiedziany, klarowny, piana w kolorze lekko złamanej bieli, średnio obfita ale trwała. w smaku półpełne, wyraźny, jasny karmel, odrobina toffi, trochę przyieczonej skórki od chleba, wszystko okrągłe i delikatne, łąka, trawa, zielone rośliny, trochę świeżych ziół i kwiatów, odrobina świeżego, lekko ukiszonego tytoniu. goryczka niska, trochę karmelowa, trochę trawiasta, werbena wpadająca w lekkie cytrusy. nasycenie umiarkowane.
2.9 Aug 2019. Keg at The Joiners during a Costellos gig with the boys. Perfectly acceptable gig beer. Clean and inoffensive. Easy drinking and quite refreshing. Citric hoppy with a gentle sweetness. Quite modern for Sheps.
3.4 05-8-2019; bottle; at home (bought at Shepherd Neame Brewery, Faversham, England). The looks of the beer are nice. The beer has a nice copper colour. The beer is absolutely crystal clear and has the nicest copper glow. On top of the beer some nice frothy soft light yellowish foam is formed. The beer bubbles nicely. The aroma of the beer is fine. Malts give a nice malty base. Nothing too fancy. Some bready grainy notes. The hops are nice and give a fruity note, together with also some herbal notes. The aromas are not super strong or special, but it is quite nice. Nice and accessible beer. The taste of the beer is also nice. It is nice and bitter. The hops give the beer a firm bitterness. But it is not unbalanced. Sweetness from the malts bring balance. It is nice. The palate of the beer is nice too. Medium body (almost medium-light), slimly thin texture and medium carbonation. The finish is nice and fruity, with a nice dry hop ending. All in all, a nice beer. I like it.
3.0 Cerveza refrescante, de baja graduacion. Color ambar transparente, nada turbia., En nariz deja un olor citrico o especiado, y en boca a malta y citricos. No esta mal, ideal para verano. 2£
4.8 First time trying it in a can, I usually drink it in a bottle. 4.50 pounds for 4 cans what a bargain. Really nice beer
3.0 Draught, half pint. Tasted on the 18/04/2019 at "The Shed", Leeds (England). Clear golden colour with a medium white head. Grainy and malty, leading to a slightly bitter finish. Next one please!
2.8 Lightly hopped, some earth, bit of a thin palate, some pleasant citrus. A bit anaemic but perfectly drinkable.
