Shiner Kosmos Reserve

Shiner Kosmos Reserve

“Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos’ mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.”

2.8 Bottle. Light bubbly beige head. Light cloudy pale yellow color. Aroma of ryebread, fruit, malt, caramel. Light body. Light sweet. Light caramel finish.
3.3 This was a shared tasting with Strykzone. Pours dark gold with a white head. Nose of lemongrass. Medium body and a smooth mouthfeel. Flavor of sweet caramel malts and grassy hops. Finishes with some spiciness and bitterness. Decent beer/
3.3 12 oz. bottle from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Clear and copper in color. An off white head of just over one finger. Aroma is grain and lemon grass. Flavor is kind of fruity, kind of grassy, kind of sugary, kind of syrupy. A bit of Euro hop notes under there.
3.0 Big, fluffy white head, long lasting. A little hoppy and a little dark tasting. Not bad actually, quite drinkable. Only slight aftertaste. A bit underrated.
4.0 Pours a clear bright yellow golden color with white head. Cereal grains, grass, and some nice malt on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes crisp and clean, very well done.
2.3 12 oz. bottle pours a clear dark golden color with quickly vanishing white head and no lacing. Not much aroma, but some grains, corn, and perhaps butterscotch. Taste is slightly bitter but not hoppy. Body is light with average carbonation. At least I got only two of these in a sampler 12-pack for $10. You get what you pay for.
2.2 Pours a rich gold, effervescent head. Aroma of grain, corn, honey, cardboard. All out of whack on the tongue, sweet corn, a strange bitterness, pepper, pennies, homebrew finish. Not good guys.
2.5 Sampled from a bottle. A dark gold lager with a white head. Caramel and malt dominate the flavour with some mild hop taste towards the end. Not much bitterness. A rather bland and sweet lager.
2.4 Deep gold with a small white head. The aroma is slightly malty, with a bit of caramel. The flavor has some caramel as well, shifting to a earthy, herbal, bitterness.
2.1 Bottle - Pours clear gold, FLAT. Part of variety sixer that has also been flat. May be old. Nose of buttered toast, with hay, and hint of fruit. Similar flavors, but with a shot of skunk. It has to be this bottle. Some hops aftertaste.
2.3 Pours a light golden with a light head. Aromas of grain, slight herbal and light caramel. Flavors of grain and slight grass. Bland but not horrible for a lager.
2.8 12 ounce bottle to wine glass A:amber color, hazy, tan head that disappears quickly A:Nose: malty Taste: light bitterness, sweetness, long lasting tartness MF:medium body, fizzy, OA: good beer, ok to repeat, not to look for Drank: April 28, 2016
2.9 appearance: dark gold, one finger of soapy white foam, minimal lacing. aroma: cardboard, pepper, lemongrass. taste: biscuity, crackery malts, then pepper, grass, hay, lemon. finish: peppery and grassy, some earth.notes: Like a strong pilsner on the hop side, but the malt side felt all messed up. Cardboard and newspaper.
2.9 12oz bottle to tulip. Pours clouded orange, white sticky ring head. Aroma of grapefruit, lemon, orange, sweet bread. Taste of corn, sour citrus, honey, light pine, cracker, and some yeast spices. Mouthfeel is light, big carb.
2.9 Dark clear amber color, medium head that did not last but left decent lacing. Not much of an aroma. Sour, corn. Carbonated and rather thin body. Not very Pleasant. Average at Best. Pass It.
2.6 Bottle to glass. Pours a clear pale yellow color with a white head. Touch of citrus hops with a lager backbone. Not terrible.
3.0 An orange bronze apearance with some light white lacing. Fresh aroma of fruit, hop, malt and sugar. A little summery/Carribean like. I enjoy it. Could be one of my favorite sessions.
1.7 From 12oz bottle to lager glass. Pour is a transparent yellow-orange, thick frothy white head. Nose is wheat, grass, resin, yeast. Taste is light bodied, mostly sour with some sugary sweetness coming through. Very carbonated and sharp finish.
2.7 12oz Flasche. Goldgelbe Farbe, wenig Schaum. Getreide, Süße und etwas Hopfen. Geschmack ist recht flach und kaum herb.
1.8 For a beer the calls itself a reserve it has reserved the flavor for another beer. One day I hope to taste that beer.
3.6 12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, pine, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon/orange peel, pine, cracker, biscuit, light honey, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good robustness and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavor; with a nice crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate amount of dryness after the finish from bitterness. Very clean on lager flavors with zero yeast ester notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately sticky, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a good hoppy pale lager style. All around good robustness and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and clean to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
2.2 Clear dark gold. Small white head. Caramel. Toast. Light grass. A little cardboard, metal. Minimal bitterness. Semi sweet. Meh.
1.2 The taste is syrupy and unpleasant to me. Really just like a basic boring bad beer. Ok.
2.5 Pours gold into a shaker. Bright white soapy head with medium retention recedes leaving gloppy sheets. Stale beer mung aromas. Dry and fruity with sour malt and wet earth.
3.1 Pours golden, head dissipates quickly. Aroma very malty, lagerish. A little bread. Taste corn flakes, bread, a little sweet, a hint of hops. Better than I expected, still not exciting.
2.4 Rated based on notes taken 11 Nov 2012 -- Not impressed with this beer. Just a step above the crappy American Lagers.
2.8 12 oz. bottle into glass. Pours golden. Aroma of grains and sweetness. Taste was the same.
3.0 Bottle from Capital Market. Medium golden in color. Nose is malty with a good bit of graininess. Malty flavor with a light graininess to it. A touch of grassy hoppiness in a fairly crisp finish. Pretty tasty.
3.5 Light smooth grain aroma. Solid white finger thick head that lingers for quite awhile. Light grain and malt taste with just a touch of bitterness. Light body and refreshing.
2.5 My Mom picked up a variety pack while in Texas, visiting my Uncle. This is one of the offerings. Pours a golden color, with a white head. Not much of an aroma. The bottle claims this beer is "hop-jacked", however I am not tasting that. I would say this is a typical lager. Not bad, but nothing spectacular.
