2.1 Can from TWSP. Crystal clear gold with a dusting of a head. Aroma is artificial, candied grapefruit, ginger. Flavor is ginger, light grapefruit, bread crust. Weak.
3.1 Grapefruit aroma with malt Pours a clear gold with no head Tart grapefruit flavor with mild bready maltiness Light bodied with medium co2, quick finish. Refreshing drink. Good for the non beer drinkers. Very fruity.
2.3 Pours clear golden with a thin, white head. Aroma is light grapefruit and light caramel. Taste is light grapefruit and thin caramel, moving to light hops. Refreshing, but not too exciting.
3.1 12 ounce bottle at the house. Smell sweet grapefruit. Deep yellow in color, not much head. Taste the grapefruit. Light bodied and easy to drink. Has citrus aftertaste. Simple and good. Cheers!
2.7 12 oz. can. Thanks, Ian, I guess. Pours a clear, bronze color, with a fizzy, fleeting head. The aroma is lots of ginger, grapefruit, lime peel, and butterscotch. Sweet and fruity, with a bit of bitterness. Light body, with a thin, spritzy feel. This is an unfortunate beer. Weak body and watery flavor, with enough ginger bite and citrus to almost redeem it.
3.5 Delicious for low cal/low carb! Nice light, grapefruit refreshing beer.
3.8 C+
2.7 Glad I sampled a single first before buying a 6-pack. I wouldn't say it's a bad beer, just thought it would be a little better based on the reviews. Not sure if an old bottle, but the smell was actually one of the worst aromas. Hard to describe, but like a musty wet dog smell. Was a little afraid after that of what I would taste, but the flavor is halfway decent. Not overwhelming of grapefruit, and has a base similar to some of their other brews. A decent summer beer actually, just not really my style.
3.4 It’s shiner...they are brewing at a specific level and not trying to be dogfish, crooked stave or firestone. With that I like this beer for what it is. Bottle pour. Harvey aromas of grapefruit and ginger. Flavors are very candied ginger and pink grapefruit but there is a nice light malt flavor that is a signature of shiner. Great summer beer.
2.7 Candied grapefruit, ginger and a bit sour. Not my thing, wife didn't really like it either.
3.1 Had this from a can, had a light malty grapefruit aroma to it. Was expecting it to be a radler so it wasn't quite what I expected, it was slightly sour with pretty decent amount of red grapefruit juice flavor to it, but it was also maltier bodied with a lightly toasted barley hint to it and more beer-like then I was expecting it to be, landed somewhat between a radler and a fruit beer. Finish had a faint noble hop bitterness and a bit of grapefruit peel to it but no detectable ginger to it. Body was light but with a fuller mouthfeel to it then I expected and a fairly high amount of carbonation to it. Not a bad middle ground between beer & radler, light, fruity and sessionable for a beer but not as much as a radler would be.
4.5 What a fantastic beer. Holla at me man on a hot day. This is so refreshing. Keep on!!
2.4 Pale yellow pour with minimal aroma of ginger and citrus. Slight hint of grapefruit with a subtle ginger ending. Okay.
3.2 Bottle from Lee's Liquor in Las Vegas on 12 October 2017. Lots of citrus in this beer with a bit of spice in the finish. This beer came in a mixed Shiner six pack. I wish more breweries in Australia packed mixed six packs.
2.5 A pinkish orange color with almost no head. The aroma is heavy on ginger with some red grapefruit. The flavor is slightly sour with the ginger standing out over the grapefruit. This should be called "Ginger Grapefruit" Overall not offensive its ok but weird.
2.9 bottled - nice amber color. Aroma and flavor of ginger with just a hint of grapefruit.
2.6 12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is citrusy. Slight grassy. Light ginger note. Mild herbal. Citrusy and medium dry finish.
3.3 A lovely, refreshing, summer beverage. It is a big step from a basic beer recipe with so many flavor additives, but I appreciated its nuances. I love grapefruit, but I’m not sure I’d order it again.
2.6 Bottle. Small fizzy white head. Clear yellow color. Aroma of light fruit, grape, malt. Light body. Light sweet flavor. Light citrus finish.
3.1 12 oz. bottle - a nice summer beer. The aroma is probably it’s strongest side. I don’t think that I would buy an entire case of this, but it was refreshing and you can feel the fruit
3.2 Poured from a can. Thin white head. Clear yellow pour. Carbonated well. Wanted more aroma. Crisp flavor, with a hint of grapefruit at the end. Great summer beer.
2.8 A bit underrated IMO. Fresh red grapefruit aroma and flavor. A mild gingery finish. Active carbonation. It really did the trick after some hot summer yard work; very quenching. Pours pink hued blonde with just a wisp of head. Ultimately, it does what I think the brewers intended.
3.2 Pleasant fruity aroma. Minimal head that quickly disappeared. Tastes like a cheap or water-downed version of Schofferhofer’s grapefruit beer, and with a slight bitter/ginger aftertaste. Still, it was thirst quenching and overall is a bit underrated.
1.5 12 oz bottle pours a clear pinkish golden color with small short-lived white head and no lacing. Aroma is all ginger and pink grapefruit. Taste is slightly sour but devoid of any hops presence or anything that would make me think this is beer. Body is light with very fizzy carbonation. This some sort of alcopop, as subtle and successful in the beer market as Wile E Coyote’s Acme Anvil was as a roadrunner exterminator. Shiner would have more success with this if they doubled the alcohol and sold it in 16 oz or 24 oz cans at gas stations.
3.0 Light amber color with a quickly dissipating off-white head. Scent is of ginger. Flavors of ginger and perhaps a touch of wheat. Mildly refreshing. Rather sharp on the tongue. 4/12
2.3 Can @ Ducks Eatery. Deep gold, white head. Aroma is ginger, grapefruit, pepper, plastic berries. Flavor is sweet ginger cherry tart. Horrible mouthfeel. Really awful stuff.
1.8 Dunkles gelb schwacher schaum, im geruch etwas Ingwer etwas süß, im Geschmack recht wässrig ganz wenig grapefruit und eine merkwürdige würzigkeit die vom Ingwer her rühren könnte...
2.9 Bottle from Walgreens. Amber colour with a white head. Aroma of citrus. The taste is dominated by the sweetness of red grapefruit and the finish has plenty of ginger, giving a pleasing warmth. The fruit and spice flavours are well integrated with the malt flavour. Not much bitterness. An easy-drinking, fruit-flavoured beer.
4.0 Good summertime beer. Grapefruit taste with a ginger aftertaste. Smooth going down would definitely drink this in the summer.
1.7 12 oz. bottle. Had the misfortune of ending up with one of these at a Christmas party. Tastes of watery grapefruit juice with hints of ginger. Drain pour.
