3.8 Rating #1819 - 2015.07.06 - Bottle from CBI - Pours a deep mahogany with a bubbly tan head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is chocolate, roast malts, mild berry jam. Blueberry jam is highlighted on the palate, but doesn’t dominate the porter/scotchy character of roast malt bitterness and toffee, cocoa sweetness. Very nice and understated for a fruit beer.
1.9 It has been awhile since I haven’t been able to finish a beer, I’m use to big bottles in large abv’s. Super blueberry aromas, and that was it. It looked nice, but the blueberry aroma, and the malt bill, just left for a boozy awkward flavor that fell down at every chance.
4.0 Brown color. Chocolate and blueberry aromas. Taste is sweet bluberries, but never overwhelming, chocolate, roasted. Blueberry taste lingers on during the finish. Feels like a blueberry Imperial Porter. Really cool.
3.5 Bottle. Pours a dark brownish color. Aroma and taste are sweet blueberries and some chocolate.
3.6 Bottle. Dark brown with a tiny tan head. Fruity and malty tones. Fruit, malt, caramel and hops. Full body with a nice bitter/ fruity finish.
3.6 Pours, dark purple red, tan head. Aroma is straight blueberries. Kinda malty almost like blueberry pie. Flavor is caramel, blueberry pie, malty, some of the browned crust. Very thick. Overall very good... quite tasty and refreshing even on a hot day.
3.7 Pour a dee reddish/purple color with a very small sized head. Aromas of black cherries, caramel and all around berries (cranberries, strawberries and more). Tastes of black berries and all around berries. Had a black cherry tartness in the finish. Light alcohol, that turned stronger as it warmed, in the finish.
3.6 Interesting - a twist-off bomber bottle! I don’t get around much anymore but that’s the first time I’ve seen a twist-off of this size. Sadly this lacks any serious head but does have a nice dark black-blue hue to the body. Really like that aroma - a mix of coffee and blueberries, not sweet but separate flavours, smart and sassy like a blueberry chocolate black forest cake. Mmmm. Flavour is a lot of strong and dry coffee and baker’s chocolate notes with a blueberry finish. Just great, well balanced. Smart. Not a major huge work of art but this thing could go great with so many different dinner dishes. Actually serving this with black forest cake at the end of a meal would make for some very happy customers if I don’t say so meself.
3.7 355ml twist off bottle. Reddish purple color. Aroma is huge bluberry out of the bottle. In the glass some extra pie crusty maltiness. Falvor is big, blueberry ice cream almost.
3.8 Marrom avermelhada, rubi.
3.4 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured on a blueish shade of dark brown? Minimal head and spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of malts, blueberries and booze. Taste is sweet and quite boozy, lots of blueberries and some wood bourbon like notes. Interesting, complex and enjoyable.
3.1 bottle. Brown with small head. Very malty base with big boozy blueberry flavor. Light sweetness. I’d imagine if you took a brown ale and added blueberry schnapps, you’d have something like this. I found it to be kind of a mess, personally.
3.2 Excellent blueberry aroma...but taste is only alcohol! Purple color with average head and body.
3.7 625ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Deep brown in colour with a long lasting large tan head, excellent lacing. The aroma has huge amounts of blueberries, icing sugar, light toasted malts. The flavour is of blueberries, some roasted malts, light coffee, sweet and rich. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, sweet, light bitterness. A lot of blueberries in this, quite sweet but not taking away from the porter underneath. Nicely done.
3.7 Sample at HopCat Detroit on 8/9/15. Darkest brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of blueberry extract, blueberry extract and blueberry extract. Malty flavor with lots of blueberry and some chocolate before a thin finish.
4.0 Holy mother! That blueberry aroma is pretty in your face. Good though. Poured a very large foamy brownish head, lots of carbonation, very good lacing. Has a very dark look, almost looks like soda pop. Aromas of...you guessed it...along with raisins/grapes, a tinge of hops, some spices. Wow, very tasty and yummy. Watery but smooth mouthfeel, sort of bitter aftertaste, but not offensive. Flavours are very much blueberry-ish, dark chocolate, grapes, spices. And 9% abv on top of it all, a great fruity beer overall. Damn good!
3.6 Brown sugar, blueberry and roasted malt combine to give this a blueberry cobbler vibe. A touch of tartness keeps it from getting cloying.
3.6 Aroma is a very strong cooked blueberry. Initial taste is dark malts, blueberry with wood, occasionally smoky and the finish is a long slightly sweet blueberry. Dark in color, purple with a hint of light through it. Mildly carbonated.
4.3 Aroma is blueberry, roasted malt, chocolate. Appearance is dark brown, light brown head. Taste is blueberry heavy, with roasted malt and chocolate, nice. Mouthfeel is a touch light, but the flavor hangs a bit. Overall, I do love what the blueberries bring to this beer.
3.6 Aroma is roasty malts, chocolate, vanilla, and obviously blueberry. Taste is deep malts with chocolate, caramel , whiskey cask and very subtle blueberry notes. Finishes with light raisin and chocolate with slight bitterness. Appearance is a almost black amber with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.
4.0 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 11/2015. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of blueberry, brown sugar, caramel, toast, brown bread, chocolate, cocoa, light coffee, light herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of blueberry and dark/roast/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of blueberry, brown sugar, caramel, toast, brown bread, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, light herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of blueberry, brown sugar, caramel, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of blueberry and dark/roast/bready malt flavors; with a good roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, fairly creamy/sticky, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice imperial fruit beer. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of blueberry and dark/roast/bready malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. The base beer felt like a cross between a stout and a brown ale. A very enjoyable offering.
4.0 Bottle, 650 ml from Vrutak, Zagreb. courtesy of and shared with JFK10000. Pours dark brown with brown head. Great blueberry aroma filled the room after opening. Malty, blueberry and dark chocolate flavor. Interesting and very nice.
4.0 Very dark brown color, average sized brown head. Aroma of blueberry cake, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, yoghurt. Taste is very similar. Slightly tart. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. This is what fruit beers should be like. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.5 Bottled 650ml. -from Vrutak Zagreb. Almost black coloured, small to medium sized brown head, chocolate and blueberry in the nose. Roasted malt, light chocolate and intensive blueberry taste with also light chocolate and blueberry finish. Alcohol well hidden. Not so bad like Pumpkin but also not so good as I’ve expected.
3.8 Hazy dark brown color, small tan head. Lots of blueberry, barrel wood and caramel in the aroma, some roastiness, malts and oak. Taste begins with caramel and something more like scotch ale, and ends with blueberry bomb, sweetness and hints of sourness. Long blueberry finish. Alcohol is nowhere to be found, fascinating. Medium body, soft to flat carbonation, creamy texture. This is something truly special. //pivoteka
4.0 Bottle, bought at Pivoteka, Zagreb. Dark brown color, medium body and carbonation. Aroma of blueberries. Light sweetness, some roastiness and cocoa in taste, and blueberries. Finish of blueberries. Some sourness. Very nice. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.6 Bottle, shared with Parksy and phantomhennes. Dark brown, light brown head. Big blueberry aroma and flavour, fudgey and roasty, full bodied. This reminded me of Tres Blueberry, but the blueberry here was more intense and the overall profile sweeter. Still, pretty tasty stuff.
3.4 (bottle) Pours a deep brown complexion with tan head and some glass lacing. Aroma of blueberry, malt and hops. Flavor is cocoa, malt, blueberry fruit, bitter hops and alcohol. Interesting combination. Nice idea, would have appreciated even more blueberry flavor and less hops.
