2.7 THOUGHTS: Not great, but not awful. Great marketing. Don’t let this one get too warm. Much better cooler. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a muddy, light to medium brown with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma had light to moderate dark bread, chocolate, wheat, and nutty malt; slight citrus; hints of chili spices that were almost cinnamon like. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was moderate to heavily sweet, moderately acidic and slightly bitter with a short duration. There was citrus, wheat, hint of chocolate, coffee and nutty malts, hint of chili spice at the bottom of the glass. The medium body was watery with fizzy carbonation and a slightly astringent finish.
2.4 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured brown with a medium off white head. Aroma is not too strong maybe some malts, fruits, spices and grain. Taste, consistent with aroma, this beer has a lot going on and perhaps that not necessarily a good thing. Light bodied and refreshing when cold but other than that I’ll have to say that I’m not fan.
1.7 What? Why? Way too much chili....no balance. No hops. This isnt good. Thanks Chris friedman.
2.8 Bottle. Poured brown minimal head. Mild wheat aroma. No detectable chili flavor. Some spices. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
1.7 Ummm, what is this supposed to be? Tastes like a home brewer’s first experiment. Too many differnet things going on, which don’t mix well. Stout, dunkel, witbier all mixed together. Looks good on paper, not so good in the glass....
1.7 No strong aromas. Subtle notes of malt and spice. Dark brown with a one head. Balanced without distinction or strong flavors. Light bodied with a quick finish.
3.2 Hazy medium brown color with a white head. Aroma is wheat, light toasted malt and pepper. Flavor is chocolate, wheat, light coffee and pepper. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
2.8 12 oz bottle from a M&M 6-pack. Pours a hazy medium brown color with average off-white head and some lacing. Aroma is full of sweet malts, bread, vegetables and some plums. Hardly spicy at all, except in the aftertaste. Body is light to medium with soft carbonation. Taste is sweet with a slightly metallic finish. I’d call this one a watered-down doppelbock. Not as bad as I had feared, given this big brewer’s reputation here. At least I didn’t have to buy 6 of them.
2.4 Watery base with some cocoa, char, malt. Spice and vegetables. An odd combination, would not recommend.
2.9 one of the mutch better [bud] products ,,,,,i will say that its good for a [bud] product,,,,,,,,they could brew better beer ,,,, but they wont,,,,,,,
3.5 Got this at one of the local place’s "get rid of crazy seasonals" sales. The box claimed there would be some chili in there, which I didn’t really pick up. Way more malt than wheat, the spices aren’t too overboard so you can actually have a couple of these in a row. Kind of watery for all the flavor that’s in it, like you dissolved some kind of baked good in a bottle.
2.9 Murky purple pour with ring of offwhite head. Smells of plums and wheat. Flavors of old coriander, cocoa powder, and hints of lavender. A little like carboard tootsie rolls on the tail. Actually, it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Kinda reminded me of a watery dopplebock.
2.6 Bottle. Poured hazy dark orange color with a large frothy white head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate spice and chocolate aroma. Light to medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium spice sweet flavor with a medium spice finish of moderated duration. Refreshing soft beer.
2.3 12oz bottle to a pint glass, thanks to Callipalegic. Code on the neck reads 12279-DH45. Pours a hazy brown / red color. Lots of white flakes floating about in the glass. Good, thin off-white head. Leaves a little loose lace. Medium body. Smooth carbonation of moderate strength. Slight creaminess to the body. Some chocolate in the flavor, and light spiciness, over a wheat-bready malt base. Sweet taste overall, light spice. Interesting, but odd beer overall. I don’t really think the chocolate and spice notes work with the sweet wheat flavor of Shock Top. I appreciate that they’re trying something a little different, but it still tastes like an AB-InBev product.. There is a slight basic watery metallic bite in the finish. I was able to get through it without much trouble, but the lingering aftertaste doesn’t make me sad that it’s gone
2.6 ...well, dark, roasted notes. No wheat in there really, finishes slightly spicy and smoky. One of the "better" shock tops.
2.4 Nice pour - thin even head with deep reddish brown color. Aroma very feint. Solid chocolate flavor, but not spicy (surprising the chilis don’t come out more). Gotta say I prefer the lighter wheat beers, but this one’s OK.
3.0 Does smell and taste of chocolate malt and some spices. I dont taste any of the chili and this is highly carbonated pretty decent seasonal beer.
1.7 Pours a reddish brown with a finger length head. Had a grainy aroma with a bit of chocolate. Light sweetness, and had a bit of a chocolate aftertaste. This beer is really thin and watery. This is good beer for Budweiser fans.
2.7 Bottle: Hazy pour, sort of brownish caramel in color with a thick beige head. Aroma is maltier than expected, along with some faint herbal and spicey notes. A little bit of chocolate. I lose interest in the taste; metallic, grain, and malts come together, but rather thin. Finishes a bit dry and floral, but metallic again.
2.0 Well if it was the end of the world and this is all I had I'd be pissed.... Not that great, pretty blah
2.9 bottle into glass, reddish pour with off white head, toffe malt aroma, taste is similar with some toast, and carael, mild hints of fruit, , just ok, not again
2.7 Bottle from Wegmans pic a 6. Pours a hazy amber-brown color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Some head retention. Aroma of wheat, mild cocoa and a fruity finish. The taste is wheat, chocolate, caramel, mild hops. Medium bodied.
4.5 Pours golden brown. Chili taste starts off strong, fades quickly though. Chocolate after taste. Nice aroma. Didn't get a pour for with the head as recommended.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a reddish color with white head. Wheat, caramel, chili aromas. Chili, citrus, yeast, spicy flavors.
2.4 Poured up a brownish color with very little head. Smells of chocolate malts with a bit of grain. Taste pretty much the same with the addition of some spices. Somewhat interesting but not something I would want to go out of my way to drink again.
2.8 pours a hazy brown with little head. tastes of malts and wheat with a light hint of cocoa and bitterness, There is a nice spicy aftertaste ,okay beer
3.3 Pours an opaque medium brown with an off white long lasting head with little lacing. The aroma is faint chocolate. The palate is light as it is with Shock Top beers. The chocolate malt dominates with a slight spice and a back of the throat chili hit after a few sips. I’ve had a chili beer that by the end of a bottle, my mouth was on fire. Not here thankfully
2.9 I didn’t get too much of a wheat flavor. A light beer with just a touch of darker malts. Pretty straight-forward.
2.2 From the description on the bottle I was lead to believe that this was going to be a brew full of flavor. I was fooled. There are the slightest hints of dark malt, chilis, and some muted spices but nothing remotely strong. All flavors are dull and muddy. The beer does not have a bad flavor, just nothing that you could call good. Pass.
2.8 Disappointing. Tastes as if a bunch of otherwise outstanding Shock Top brews were poured together into a vat and mixed up into a zombie. Muddled, with a weak and watery taste, though with a somewhat pleasant, stout-like flavor up-front. Clean & watery finish, with coppery aftertaste. I would prefer to drink something else at the end of the world.
