Short's Black Cherry Porter

Short's Black Cherry Porter

Black Cherry Porter is made using local Northern Michigan sweet black cherries, eight different malts, and three varieties of hops. The combination of ingredients provides the deep radiant flavor profile and creates a dark opaque color. The beer leaves a slight purple lace from the fruit puree and finishes with flavors of roasted chocolate and pleasurable black cherry.

Black Cherry Porter is one of the oldest beers in our portfolio. It was brewed for the first time on July 29, 2004 as the 35th batch of beer ever brewed at Short’s.

4.0 Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is dark fruits, roast malts, taste is sweet cherry, chocolate, bitter.
4.0 Tiszta, éjfekete színe, kakaóbarna habja egészen különleges, kerekded malátás, sült tésztás illatokat rejt magában, az igazi csavar azonban a savanyú, balzsamecethez hasonló színezetben áll, mely kis idő elteltével már puha, fekete gyümölcsös aromává alakul. A savanykás jellemvonás ízében is elsődleges szerepet játszik, legalábbis az összetett ízkompozíció ezzel veszi kezdetét. Ezt követően mézédes, érett cseresznye és meggybefőtt aromái csatlakoznak a vibráló összképhez, miközben a porteres benyomásról pörkölt maláta, illetve pikáns, füstös, bükkfás ízjegyek gondoskodnak. A végízében ismételten a savanyú zamatoké a főszerep, némi füsttel megbolondított cseresznye érett jellegével.
3.1 Black of color with a beige head. An aroma of fruits, port, spice and prunes. A flavor of spice, cherries and roasted malt.
0.9 Bottle: Black, tan head. Unfortunately the bottles I had of this were infected, quite badly. I was expecting a mild sweet & tartness, but it was nothing but medicinal chalk & sour vinegar with a huge, ashy aftertaste. Smelled like old, sour steak sauce. Pretty gag-worthy & not what it’s supposed to be. I had the Imperial version on tap & it was much better. Will re-rate if I ever have this version again, non-infected.
3.8 On tap at the Anniversary party. Very dark on the pour with a dark red tint. Smells mostly of tart dark fruits. Flavors match the nose with a tart dark cherry fruit. I liked it. Would have liked to got more.
4.1 [5370-20130520] 12floz bottle. Rich chocolate roasted malt aroma. Black brown body with a long-lasting brown head. Roasted chocolate-covered cherry malt grain flavour. Full body. Delicious. (8/4/9/4/16) 4.1
3.4 bottle. Deep brown with small head. Rich malty porter with moderate cherry flavor. Pretty much what you’d expect from the name.
2.1 More dark malts than cherry. Actually, what happened to the cherry? Doesn’t hold up to what it’s supposed to be.
3.5 Black with thin head. Aroma og caramel, roasted malts and a weak hint of acidic fruit. Taste of coffee, burntout bonfire, black cherries. Nice porter this
3.0 Shared bottloe at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours black with almost no head at all. Aroma of caramel, light roast and liquorice. Taste is moderate sweet, sour coffee, ash.Nice, but not easy to like.
2.4 Almost black. Aroma of prunes and cherries. Sour taste, reminiscent of fruit juice.Interesting experiment. A small glass for evaluation is enough for me.
3.9 On draft at HopCat in East Lansing Pours black with minimal head Very coffee oriented in aroma, no cherry to be distinguished Tasts, though good, is unlike the name. Coffee dominate, and the cherry is hardly an afterthought, though there is a minute amount after the finish sits there a moment
3.6 Bottle@Guren. Black with a dark-purple edge. Half finger mocca foam. Very roasted malts. Coffee notes. The cherry aromas are well hiding. Nice brew.
3.5 Pours pitch black with a small brown head that recedes quickly. Big chocolate aroma with a background of fruit, anise, and surprising spice. Flavor is bitter chocolate with only hints of the cherry. Big and bold, with tobacco and fruit mixed together. Hop bitter holds the sweetness in check. Pretty flavorful porter here, bordering on a stout. Not bad.
3.6 2013-05-20. Black body, nice brown head. Aroma is pretty fruity, lightly tangy cherry. 7+ Flavour is similar, tangy fruity cherry over sweet dark malt core, mild roast malt undertones. 7+ Smooth average plus bodied palate is under carbonated. Enjoyable. Bottle via trade with jprime.
3.5 Bottle [12oz] shared with and c/o jerc & mabel. Pours a very dark amber-brown with a small bubbly light-brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, light leafy hops and some black cherry. Chocolaty flavour along with roasted malt, leafy hops, lightly tart cherries and a light bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good, I enjoyed it.
1.9 18.5.2013, 0,35l bottle @ home: Nice foamy cocoa-cherry colored head, but falls a little to fast. Aroma is rich, roasted coffee, soy sauce, dark berries, grass, salty caramel, hay. Taste is very harsh, lots of metal, coffee, dark berries, grass, hay. Medium bitterness. Not good at all.
3.6 Bottle. Near black with a beige head. Cherry, chocolate and malt aromas. Similar flavors but with a lot of coffee and a more sour cherry note. Kind of astringent.
3.8 Bottle, 355ml - Black bornw beer with a disappearing large beige head. Aroma is fruity with notes of caramel, black cherries, chocolate, vanilla and cream. Flavor is fruity with notes of sour cherries, black cherries, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Great porter that reminds me a lot of Cherry Garcia ice cream.
3.5 Black color, deep brown head, shortlasting. Aromas to cherries, black fruits, black coffee and some spices like cinnamon in the back. The mouthfeel is very nice , surprisingly refreshing, where the coffee notes are well balanced with the slight acidity from the black fruits. Very original brew, refreshing, watery and with a acid aftertaste which makes this beer a summer one. I liked it.
3.5 12oz bottle from Tim, thanks Appearance: Black with a medium sized tan head and good lacing Aroma: Roasted malts, cherries and chocolate Taste: Roasted malts, dark fruit, cherries with some sourness in the finish Decent
4.4 Kullsvart med ravfarget skum og moderat skum. Lukter av god malt og kaffe. Smak av sjokolade, men smaken av bær er framtredende. Middels bitter og moderat karbonering gjør dette til en vinner.
3.7 Bottle. Black with short lasting tan head. Aroma of black currant jam, some licorice. Taste has more blackcurrant and licorice with some chocolate. Slightly sweet and a little tangy. Nice but a little weird
3.7 Dark brown with a small tan head. Fruity and malty tones. Fruit, malt, bitter and sour. Medium to full body with a biter / sour finish.
3.8 12oz bottle, thanks to Umich03jm. Black color. Good brown head. Awesome lace. Pretty great-looking. Nice chocolate flavor, and good big black cherry. Very well blended. Moderate bitter, little sweet (tart) taste. Some roasty malts. Pretty sure I prefer this over Bells’ cherry porter. More my style. I feel like the cherry is bigger and tastier, here. Very special stuff
3.2 Draft to pint. Nice variation on the classic porter taste; the black cherry makes it different, but not so much that it is a turn-off. Yes, flavor does come around as it warms up. It was served to me chllled, but it should be served only slightly chilled.
3.3 Great cherry aroma with some light coffee ground. Flavor follows but more heavy on the coffee grounds which isn’t quite as pleasant.
3.5 Pours dark with brown head like a stout. Black cherry is subtle in the aroma but sweet and sour in the taste.
3.7 Shared 355 ml bottle at Cardinaal. Pitch black with a small light brown film that laves good lacing. Butter cherry and roasted malts on the nose. Fruity roasted, sour and light meaty mouth. Full body. Dry tongue.
