Short's Good Humans

Short's Good Humans

Good Humans was created to showcase one of Briess Malting Company’s new malt varieties. Originally planned as a one-time thing, it quickly became one of our big successes. Good Humans is a Double Brown Ale made with Carabrown Malt, and then dry hopped with Simcoe hops. The brew has sweet malty esters that are met by huge toasted caramel and toffee flavors. The finish is dry with a bouquet of hops.

3.6 This brew pours a deep amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt butterscotch and fruit. Medium body with flavors of caramel malt, fruit and mild earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a toffee and malt aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.6 12 oz. bottle on Christmas Eve, served in a shaker- poured a darkened brown with a maroon tint when held to a light source, low carbonation, thick off white head with a solid ring about the vessel and alot of frog eyes. Aroma of nuts, toffee, and a hint of molasses. Hits the mouth with a medium body, feels like a roasted malt on the back end of the tongue, middle has a spot of cream, finish is sweet, nutty, and dry. WOOHOO!- that’s what I wrote in my notebook, it must have been real good!
3.5 Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark orange red pour with slightly off white head, aroma brought notes of big toast, caramel, toffee, some slight spice, dark cocoa, pine, grass. Taste was a mix of orange, grass, spice into some biscuit, slight toast, caramel, finishing slightly bitter.
3.9 Strong brown ale from Michigan, with thin but stable, pale greyish beige head and clear, deep but translucent brown robe with a beautiful glowing vermillion hue. Inviting aroma of mandarin peel, blood orange, chocolate candy, home made caramel, nutmeg, blackcurrant, kahlua, dried forest leaves, candied figs. Pleasantly sweet onset, candied cherry, orange and brown sugar but nothing cloying and in fact quite refreshing thanks to the citrussy quality surrounding it; soft and smooth, somewhat oily mouthfeel, consisting of a lovely, clean caramelly malt sweetness with clear chocolate accent, flowing down the throat with ease and supporting a peppery, citrusy, aromatic and spicy hop bitterness in the end as well as a glow of warming, brandy-like alcohol, which is noticeable even in terms of taste and therefore could have been a bit better hidden. Apart from that, this is a lovely, tasty brew, clean and well-balanced between sweet and bitter, with a delightful warming quality. An ideal autumn beer, glad I picked this one from the cellar on this late October Sunday...
3.5 Bottle. Cloudy amber with short beige head. Aroma is dark fruits, pine, and citrus. Medium body and light carbonation, with some alcohol warmth. Sweet flavor with hints of raisins and licorice, followed by slight bitterness of citrus and pine. Interesting brew.
3.6 Bottle at home. Pours brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is malty with some grapefruit and some pine. Flavor follows. Malty with nice hop bitterness. Some alcohol present. Nice, smooth beer. Very drinkable.
3.7 Bottle from sheffield tap. Dark ruby brown with a short lived head. The aroma is malty with cereal and honey and juicy fruity hops, also get a bit dusty dryness. Taste is incredibly mild Considering the abv, slight sweetness and slight bitterness. Very oily thick body with good level of carb. Nice beer
3.6 Bottle, Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Good looking label. Dark brown pour with a small off white head. Nose had notes of choc, caramel and spice alongside a little hoppage. Flavour revealed some sweet malts, dark fruits, earth and piney hop. Lingering dry bitter finish. Interesting and enjoyable stuff.
3.9 well, this is probably thr best brown ive ever had, bottle shared with hakes and lamont, todd, at the dub , family dinner, sweet, sugar, tasty goodness, love it
3.4 Smells like a brown with butterscotch notes throughout, surprisingly smooth taste is changing from start to finish good beer
3.2 Smells delicious. Like gummies of some sort. Nice caramel maltiness. A lil sweet. Butterscotch. Hopped well.
4.0 Bottle from indianwood store. Nose is malt and butterscotch and sugar. Some sweet malt taste and sweet fullness. Not bad. Gone thru 4 tonite.
3.3 (bottle) clear brown colour with a small beige head; aroma starts with stewed fruit, then soy sauce, then candy; balanced, slightly boozy flavour
3.6 12 oz bottle, Ann Arbor, MI, USA. Clea deep amber, sweet aroma with cloves and bark. Sweet flavour with balanced hops, some soya sauce and a long alcohol infused vanilla and herb finish.
3.6 Malty aroma with bread and caramel. A bit if butterscotch and raisin. Slight light brown head. Clear brown color with a touch of red. Taste is sweet with medium body. Average carbonation; nice malty finish. Overall a good, pleasant beer, though a touch simple.
3.3 Bottle from mikem409, thanks Mike! Pours a muddy brown with an off-white head. Aroma is lightly dark fruity, certainly sweet with brown sugar and caramel. Taste has peat and is very sweet; brown sugar, caramel, some molasses. Medium bodied. Finishes sweetly malty with a touch of late peat. Shrug? Somewhere between a scotch ale and a brown, not great. 13.4
4.1 It’s like everything.... But in the same thing... One of those rare moments when it really is good to be human.
3.7 A nice mesh of styles. Brown ale meets IPA. Flavors of citrus hops, toffee, caramel and cider. Undertones of oranges, nutmeg and cinnamon. Nicely carbonated.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with minimal head or lacing. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and alcohol. Taste of coffee notes, chocolate notes, and floral hops. Reminds me more of a porter or stout than a Brown but a decent beer. ----Hophaze out
4.1 Pours a mahogany color with a foamy white head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate, toffee, and hops. Flavor is malty, toasty, sweet caramel, toffee, some chocolate, and light bitterness. I really enjoyed this.
1.5 Moderately dark brown/amber appearance, small eggshell head on aggressive pour. Nose is coffee, chocolate, toffee with mild floral hops and some boooze. Taste is way less hoppy than I was expecting for a dry hopped imperial brown/american strong ale. Booze, chocolate, and floral notes on palate. Finish is a bit off sweet. Not what I was expecting, but drinkable. OK, but would not buy it again.
3.8 (Short’s Good Humans) Bottle 330 ml, served into a snifter. Brown colour on the body, small tan head, thin, collapsing quickly and leaving big bubbles behind. Intense aroma, lots of chocolate and vanilla,, light alcohol, cocoa, some ripe red fruits. Taste is malty, caramel, toffee, again lots of chocolate, some lighter vanilla, alcohol, chestnuts, some hops too. Medium body, soft carbonation. Mildly dry palate. Very good!
3.5 Murky brown, neat ringed eggshell head. Musty spice, wee bit burn. Neat brassiness throughout, hops are a bit dusty but let’s the malt sweetness gasp through. Fairly flat, creamy and a little bitter bite towards the finish. Linger is neat spicy sweet. Bottle.
3.4 Shared 12 oz. bottle poured to snifters, showing a cloudy, brownish copper color, with a modest hat of tan, froth & bubbles, and spots of lacing. The aroma intro was very earthy, with a fleeting, vegetal hint, roasted scent as cocoa, then toffee & caramel sweetness. The taste was similar, and moderately bitter, with a medium body, fair carbonation, somewhat hidden alcohol, and a touch of wheat or flake-like creaminess that livened the mouthfeel. Improved nicely after the questionable start.
3.5 Bona cervesa, es equilibrada i gustosa. Buena cerveza, es equilibrada y sabrosa.
3.7 Bottle: Deep, deep amber & brown with an ecru head that leaves respectable lacing behind. Aroma loaded with chocolate wheat, rich caramel, & burnt brown sugar with an overture of floral hops & delicate pine resins bursting in & out. Like a hopped up, rich brown ale. (That’s the point, right?) Strong nutty flavor, backed with cocoa beans, toffee, & roasted hazelnuts, intertwined with roses, pine leaves, & floral hops. Bitterness hits mid-palate, eventually blunted by a soft, malty sweetness leading to a finish of caramel, dry cocoa powder, & roasted nuts. Hint of citrus peel, too. Strange brew? Maybe. IPA? Brown ale? Why not both? I can see why this is a polarizing brew, but I really enjoyed it.
3.9 Bottle, courtesy my good friend Steve – thanks! Instant gratification when popping the cap; a robust, nutty and chocolatey dry-hopped scent quickly fills the air. The chestnut brown pour is crisp, topped with a finger of creamy beige head and scant lacing. Solid appearance. The taste is just what I’d expect from a dry-hopped Imperial Brown Ale, you know, based imagination since I’ve probably never had one. Good hop flavor, mostly florals, goes well with the chocolate, nuts, and roast. Robust, earthy, and perhaps a little rye. Something I wouldn’t drink a lot of, but a solid entry in the cleanup slot and it’s really hitting the spot right now.
3.5 Dark brown color. Brown sugar, chocolate and liquorish aroma. Raosted coffee and a little bit of hoppiness on the taste.
4.0 W aromacie sporo chmielu, lekkie owoce tropikalne, drewno i kawa, wszystko razem ładnie skomponowane. W smaku wytrawne, struktura kremowa, posmak drewniany z lekkim orzechowym muśnięciem, goryczka porządna z owocowym posmakiem, na finiszu lekka kawa zbożowa i goryczka chmielowa. Doskonały balans, dobrze ukryty alkohol. Bardzo solidne, złożone piwo.
