Short's Nicie Spicie

Short's Nicie Spicie

A gentle mixture of elegance and redolence for any occasion.
Northern Michigan spiced wheat ale. A 50% mixture of premium two-row malted barley and malted white wheat makes golden wheat ale balanced with Ahtanum and Cascade hop varieties. This ale is spiced with fresh grated lemon and orange rind, coriander, and black peppercorns. It’s truly a fermented wonder of the Short’s Brew formula family.

3.6 Savor 2015. Always make a point to see Short’s if they are there. Nice wheat ale, spice isn’t overwhelming.
3.1 2-4 oz bottle pour at SAVOR 2015’s Saturday night session. Clear yellow with off-white head. Aromas of floral and citrus notes. Tastes of malt, light citrus, wheat. Medium-light body with a dry finish.
3.2 Very hazy orange pour with quite a bit of foamy white head. Hop filled orange nose. Lots of flavour. Lots! Really nicely balanced. It all works really well together. Citrus, coriander and a bit of bite.
3.8 Okay here’s a quick short review of this beer. It poor’s a light straw color with a half finger of head, pretty good lacing, smells of orange and lemon and mild peppercorn. Taste of coriander with mild pepper corn to front and stronger pepper corn to back. The after taste is all peppercorn. The peppercorn is definitely the work horse in this beer. The mouth feel is medium with decent carbonation. It is also HOT. This beer over all I think is going to be a love it or hate it kind of beer for most people. Let’s just say I love it!
2.7 Bottle from Drake’s Party Center. Pours orange with a white head. Leaves some lacing. Not much on the nose. There’s a bit of black pepper vibe on the tongue but it’s faint. Finished clean. Kind of dull.
3.7 From bottle. Mild wheat and citrus notes but overshadowed by fresh ground peppercorns. Slight haze, golden amber body with thin white head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts moderately sweet with orange, citrus zest, coriander, and lots of peppercorn. Orange rinds and orange-aid flavors. Bitter hop and peppery finish with lingering bitter after.
2.8 Clear golden pour with not much of a head. Aroma of pepper and a little tart fruit. Light mouth. Taste is spicy and full of pepper. Slight burn from the pepper. A little wheat. Very strange beer.
1.5 Tastes like licking a black pepper shaker bleck. Water and hay on the back end. Not Julie beer. She gives .5. Andy isn't impressed drinking black pepper
3.1 12oz bottle, from organic market in Traverse City/MI (retrieved from 08/2013 Midwest jpg backlog). Gently spiced to the point of Radler-ish blandness, an organic Radler without any real lemonade, but the slightly artificial sensation of overfruitiness. Wheat malt base has a wit quality to it, black pepper blends in harmoniously. Drinkable light experiment.
3.2 Bottle: Clear gold with a short head. Aroma is lemony, orange, orange-peel. Taste is fruit, citrus.....a gradual rise in spiciness...Finishes with a nice peppery note.
3.3 pours slightly hazy very pale yellow with a small white cap, some retention and lacing. freshly cracked black pepper, fresh lemon and orange skin, although faint fruitiness from malt bill, white wine, bitter herbs - well integrated and not quite discernable coriander, citrus, fresh lean wheaty notes, clean yeast, no off notes. moderately low carbonation, light body - slightly watery, dry crisp bitter herbal-spicy-lightly tingling and warmth finish. not really complex - flowery-zesty citrus, wheat, black pepper. but for sure enjoyed!
3.0 From a bottle in Grand Haven MI. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow. Aroma is some wheat some lemon and some orange. Flavor follows with other spices. Interesting beer slight bite to it.
3.2 Bottle. Orange/lemon peel and wheat malt aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Mildly sweet orange wheat malt and lightly bitter lemon/orange peel flavor. Clove in the finish. Body on the light side. Nice flavor but very light.
2.3 Pours a very clear yellow color tinted orange. An egg shell white colored head that dissipates quick. A zesty citrus aroma. Almost orange soap like. But probably the nose is the best area here. At first sip it’s a quiet lemon flavor. Almost like a dirty water thing. Then gets really thick and foamy. In a really off putting way. After the dirty lemonade feel starts to go a huge pepper spice hits hard. Not the normal peppercorn feel though. Much spicier. The feel really lingers on it dominates any other flavor. It doesn’t work with this brew. Not the best.
3.0 Pours slightly hazy, golden yellow, wee bit of thin white head, little thin lacing. Aroma coriander, orange peel, lemon grass, sweet bready malt, faint fruity esters. Taste subdued compared to aroma, spices coat the tongue, orange and lemon peel, more spice, dominated by coriander. Mouthfeel thin, medium carbonation, spice bites at the tongue, mostly dry finish. Overall ok, very spicy, needs more fruitiness, pretty drinkable.
2.4 Rerate. Bottle shared with koleminer20, out of Dumpster Day box #1. Aroma is light, light orange, mostly wheat, some coriander and peppercorn. Appearance is dark golden, white head. Taste is...not there. Might be light peppercorn, mostly wheat and nothing. Nothing happening here. Mouthfeel is medium body and almost no carbonation, slight spice at the the end. Overall, yikes. Swing and a miss.
3.8 (backlog) At delirium. Orange cloudy pour with tan head. Light orange, coriander, and citrus aromas. Sweet fruit, light spice and hop flavors.
1.7 Bottle: Deep golden color, nearly amber with a wispy, white head that’s gone in moments. Aroma is a random hodge-podge of kitchen rack spices. Peppercorn is definitely discernible... Coriander is there, but not as heavily. Also get a nutmeg or spicy cinnamon-like note in there? Other random clashing of leafy & ashy spiciness, along with an intense, fruity spike that smells of bittersweet oranges & mild Lemon Pledge. Orange & lemon definitely more forward on the palate. Still getting a moderate solvent note, unfortunately, like lemon cleanser. Mid-palate is another clusterfuck of spices & flavors; coriander, clove, ash, herbal hops, bitter citrus rind, cinnamon, malty & toasted bread. Peppercorns come in hard & grow too powerful towards the end. The finish is nothing but peppercorn, like sucking on a pepper mill.
2.8 Bottle. Pours hazy yellow gold with rapidly settling, small white head. No lace. Aroma is lemon and lime, strong citrus (reminiscent of cleaning product), some coriander, spice and sweet wheat in the background. Flavor is strong lemon, lime, orange, mildly sweet, fading into a mild and sweet wheat and coriander finish, hint of peppercorn/black pepper. Could use more wheat for flavor and body. Soft carbonation, medium-light body, and lightly chewy texture.
3.3 bottle. golden with small head. orange citrus flavors. substantial spice. a revved up wheat beer.
3.3 Courtesy of Strykzone. Thanks Dave. Pour and apricot color with a small white head/ Nose is pepper. Full ion body. Flavor is spicy wheat on a fruity base. Spicy finish. Nice wheat..
3.8 From a bottle. Lives up to its name, definitely spicy. Quite light, and refreshing. Not my thing, but interesting.
3.0 12oz bottle in trade. Pours a pale orange with little to no head. Smell is lime, coriander, overripe melon, and wheat/grain. Taste is a bit funky (not in a good way) again with the honeydew melon, lime, and malt. Thin on the palette.
3.6 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 6/13/2013. Pours very hazy bright golden amber color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of lemon zest, orange zest, pear, peppercorn, coriander, wheat, bread, herbal, floral, and earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and spice notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange zest, pear, wheat, peppercorn, coriander, bread, floral, and herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of citrus zest, wheat, peppercorn, coriander, bread, and herbal earthiness on the finish; with some peppercorn heat building up as well. Nice and pleasant balance of malt and spice flavors; with solid robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, smooth, and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a solid spiced wheat ale. Solid robustness and good balance of malt and spice flavors; and very smooth to drink. An enjoyable offering.
2.9 Shared bottle, poured to shaker. Zesty peppery taste with citrusy hints. A bit watery finish.
3.3 Much lighter than I expected. Very subtle peppercorn, light lemon zest and slight bitter finish.
3.2 10-AUG-2013, bottle @Sonni. Thx. Hazy orange with ehite head. Orange peel aroma, yeast, spice. Taste the same. A grape fruit bitterness. Soft carbonation. OK. Interesting. Refreshing.
3.1 Bottle. Clear, yellow straw color, no head. Moderate aroma, lots of spice in the taste and lingering they finish.
2.6 7/3/13. 12oz bottle thanks to breau! Clear orange pour with a small off-white head. Light oranges in the aroma, thin, a bit of soup spice. The flavor follows suit and the mouthfeel is watery, almost NA-like - basically carbonated kool-aid. Meh.
2.8 Tap at the brewpub. Anemic apple juice pour. Similarly thin aroma with some porpourri. A bit of soft pepper in the flavor. Gentle sweetness.
