Short's Strawberry Short's Cake

Short's Strawberry Short's Cake

Strawberry Short’s Cake is a golden ale. The addition of strawberries and milk sugar transform this beer into a rose colored nectar that has hints of cream and is pleasingly sweet. Biscuit flavors and aromas arise from the great amounts of Victory malt used in the brewing process.

3.7 This is done very well. Not as sweet as expected. Perfect balance of sweet and tart with fruit. Pink cloudy appearance. Tart strawberry with a touch of sweet bready taste. Tap
3.5 On tap at Hopcat. Pours red clear. Sweet strawberry aroma. Malty with mostly sweet. Okay for one.
3.6 Bottle. It pours a hazy reddish pink color witha small disappearing off white head. The aroma is full with strawberries. maybe even a hint of cherry with a bready malt backbone. It definitely smells dessert-like. The flavor has more sweet strawberries, a little bread, sugar and light cream. Pretty spot on for what they’re advertising here. Not as sweet as I was expecting. Pretty light bodied too, although substantial enough to support all the sweet flavors. The strawberry character stands out and seems pretty authentic and pleasant to me. Pretty well executed, which impresses me, but I’m not sure why anyone would want this beer form.
3.4 I very rarely like non lambic strawberry beers but this was pretty tasty. +++ Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark brown color with faint orange-red highlights and a small foamy white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was sweet strawberry jam and yeast. The flavor was strawberry jam - but not overwhelmingly sweet - with a white bread note underneath. Long strawberry jam finish. Medium body. Poundable.
3.0 on tap @ Vino Bellissimo / Lima OH --- Nearly clear medium golden amber, off-white head, blobs and bands of lace. Taste is mild caramel malt that adds only the lightest hint of strawberry. I don’t get any cream. It is light, it is enjoyable, but the description doesn’t match my experience.
2.4 From a bottle. Pours hazy copper with suspended particles and a very thin head. Tastes like old strawberry candy, musky grains, and some corn. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like old strawberry candy, musky grains, and some corn.
2.7 Bottle. Pours cloudy reddish amber. Aroma is strawberries, toasted malt, lactose, and extremely faint funk. Flavor is strawberry syrup, bland malt profile, light sweetness, and a grainy finish. Light/medium body.
2.9 Draft. Can smell the strawberry and cream. Taste follows with a bland lactic sweetness. Not that great. Just bland and sugary and sweet.
3.6 12 ounce bottle, stamp on bottle says 06/22/16 so I assume that’s the bottled on date. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a hazy amber/reddish color with about a half inch off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like strawberries, strawberry shortcake, lactose and some bready/grainy malt. For the most part I think the taste is just like the aroma, but with some strawberry jam noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it’s smooth and easy enough to drink. I’m glad I got to try this one, $2.79 a bottle.
3.9 Over the top strawberry flavor which is exacly why iys so good. A gimmick that works! Dont get much friut in the nise but a tastey once in a night brew!
3.6 Bottle: Cloudy amber with a short beige head. Strawberry, cream aroma. Taste is sweet, sugary strawberry, sweet bread, sugar.... Scent and flavor are remarkably close to exactly replicating a real strawberry shortcake.
3.0 4 oz draft at Cappy’s. Drawn in because of the cutesy name. Gold-ish pour. Creamy and over the top sweet strawberry syrup flavor. Gotta stop there -- hard to drink, couldn’t finish 2 oz.
2.9 This has a sort of impressively over-the-top malt character to it. It surprisingly has more toasty malt taste than it does strawberry. It is fresh and pretty nice tasting but just a bit too much overall.
2.4 355ml bottle. Thought i rated this a while ago. Anyways its a sweetish beer with an over-the-top toasted malt character which makes it pretty cloying.
3.6 12 oz bottle shared with ebone1988 from Dumpster Box No. 1. The pour is a darker ruby color with a nice white bubbly head and a decent lace. The aroma is actually pretty good. There is a strong strawberry jam to go with a heavier biscuit tendency. Not the good angel food cake that I was hoping for, but it's surprisingly good. No real lactose is picked up. Just strawberry jam and biscuits. The flavor is decent, at first. The strawberry jam takes over pretty heavily. The biscuit and milk sugar aren't noticeable, however, there is a strong sweetness that throws everything off a little bit. It's like jammy water. The mouth feel is something else. It's thin and watery, but the carbonation falls off incredibly quickly. The aftertaste is layered. There is a decent jam at first, but then it moves to a sweetness, and then does some funky shit. It finishes overly sweet and almost like a spoiled milk. Not too bad, but there was a bit more hope for this one.
3.2 Pours a reddish brown with a thin white head. Aroma of big strawberry jam, malt and sugar. Taste is sweet, malty with big strawberry flavor. Cool for what it is, just not for me.
3.9 Ambré rose. Nez intense de fraise sucré. Bouche: belle effervescence. Très sucré. Arôme de fraise intense. Gâteau vanillé. Onctueuse. Un vrai dessert aux fraises.
2.7 Undated bottle shared by Brian, thanks! 11/28/15. Hazy auburn body has a fleeting beige head. Smells like strawberry and raspberry jam. Smuckers-like, with toasted malt that dosent help the already acidic, punchy character. No alcohol or flaws, just very little beer, even for a fruit beer. Heavy strawberry flavor is authentic, actually somewhat tart, and much better than the nose lets on. Light carb, a soft but lightly spritzy texture. Light buttercream and honey. Jammy, a bit sweet and good fruit flavor but still too sweet.
2.4 12 oz. can shared by Willrunforbeer. Dirty Amber color, no head. Aroma is fake strawberry with sugar. Flavor is overly artificial strawberry. Fo me it comes of so artificial, it nearly makes me sick. Maybe it is real fruit but I can’t hang with it. Overly sugary... Not easy for me to drink.
3.0 Dark pink pour with no head. Smell AND taste are fake strawberry, unfortunately. That being said, I don’t hate fake strawberry flavoring so this is rated a bit better than that peach one.
2.9 12oz. thanks WillRun, a light reddish pink color. Smells like a fake fit flavoring. Tastes like a fake strawberry with graham cracker an maltiness. not great. sorry guys.
3.6 Poured from bottle thanks Willrunforbeer and jason. Pours hazy strawberry brown with a thin white head. Aromas of strawberry and biscuit. Taste is spot on for what it is.
3.7 12oz bottle from trade. Thanks, Jason! Pours red orange brown with an off white head. Aroma is slightly sour strawberry and whipped cream. Flavor is what it is supposed to be.... A solid take on liquid strawberry short cake. Biscuit, strawberry, cream. Well done.
2.6 12oz bottle pours a murky amber/brown with a small khaki head. Aroma of English toffee caramel malt and mild strawberry jam. Taste similar to aroma, big sweet earthy English malts, veggies, astringent bitterness throughout, and sweet sugary strawberry. Off flavors, nothing really comes together as pleasent here for me.
3.9 Pours gold with very little head. Aroma is of strawberry and bread. Taste is mildly sweet with a sourish strawberry flavor.
3.7 12oz bottle thanks to mtomlins / little matt. Murky orange with an off white head that mostly fades. Good lord that is an amazing shortcake snoof...not sure its beer but it smells damn great; wish it was a little less sweet though, lots of strawberry with some artificial flavour, moderate carbonation, mild body, some aspertame, bit of shortbread, can’t believe its in a bottle instead of on a plate.
3.1 This beer does not taste like strawberry short cake to me. I can barely taste strawberry if at all but I would consider drinking this again
2.8 Bottle. Pours a murky rose-amber. Smells like a desert; "cake-y", milk sugar, some fruit. Tastes of cake, muddy strawberry, milk sugar; the flavors aren’t bright. Rather odd.
3.7 12oz bottle into tulip. Minneapolis. Pours golden amber. Transparent. Aroma is strawberry forward. A little artificial smelling. Very sweet. Taste is sweet. Body is medium. Short finish. Interesting, but wouldn’t need to drink a lot of this.
3.2 Bottle: Ominous red color, not quite dark enough for "ruby" or "crimson" yet. Slightly orange tinted, too. Mild haze with an off-white soapy film on top. Strawberry juice aroma, very fruity & backed with a residual sugary sweetness. Hint of bready malts as well. Flavor is a bit more complex. Notes of strawberry purée, milky lactose sweetness, under baked bread & biscuits. The malts give off a doughy vibe while the strawberries mix with the lactose to actually give the impression of a strawberry short cake. Residual strawberry finish with lingering notes of whipped cream & granulated sugar. Sweet.... Very sweet. But definitely a fun one to drink.
