Sierra Blanca Roswell Alien Amber Ale

Sierra Blanca Roswell Alien Amber Ale

We have blended eight different types of barley to create this amber ale. It appeals to the largest segment of craft beer drinkers who enjoy a smooth, malty ale with no hop bitterness.

3.0 Poured from bottle from the cellar (54F). Pours with very little head and rapidly dissipates to a ring of foam. The brewer’s description is dead on - there is very little to no hop aroma. Aromas of hay and malt. Taste is malty with essentially no bitterness; caramel and malt. I do like the malty flavor, but it isn’t particularly complex. Would be good with food.
2.4 Bottle. Pours a mostly clear amber color with a small white head on it. Nose is rather light and slightly toasty. Taste is unremarkable and slightly malty, with just a bit of sweetness. Save for the label, entirely forgettable.
3.0 Bottle. No glass to pour into. Taste was really thin and almost watered down. Not a great amber.
3.1 Basic amber ale with a very cool bottle. Easily drinkable with a good flavor. Light amber color with a slight aroma
3.2 Bottle. Transparent amber with frothy white head that clears quickly. Very little aroma, but there is a hint of earthy and hops. Taste is very carbonated, with flavors of malts, barley and water. Meh. Not great but it has a cool label.
3.3 pours a amber color with small white head that does not last long. the aroma is earthy, barley. the taste is more of the same. not much difference than american adjunct lager to be honest but at least the bottle is cool to add to the collection.
3.2 Bottle. Earthy barley malt aroma. Clear amber with a small beige head. Sweet toasty caramel malt flavor. Medium body, lively carbonation. A nice malty amber.
2.8 12/23/2013. From bottle. Amber color with a short white head. Caramel and malt aromas with little hops throughout. Mostly caramel and nutty flavors with a slightly bitter finish.
3.5 Bottle. Honey and barley malt aroma. Amber with small head. Sweet barley malt and hay flavor. Decent body. Pretty good.
2.9 Picked-up this single bottle at the Area 51 Alien Center on our way to Death Valley. Pours a clean amber colour with an off-white creamy head, good retention and some thick creamy lace. Nutty aromas with some roasted malts. Mild toasted grain and caramel malt taste. Nice packaging at a nice location. Not a bad amber ale.
2.9 Bottle: Pours clear, dark copper with a creamy beige head. Toffee....malty aroma. Taste is caramel malt, slightly herbal bittering after initial sweetness. Not bad, but pretty one-noted.
2.4 The beer has an okay appearance with amber color to it, just a mild white ring of head and no lacing on the glass. The smell has a mild sweet caramel smell but thats it, nothing more. The taste has a bitter, malt flavor with a mild caramel taste that dissapates quickly. The mouthfeel is slightly bitter and boring, the beer was mildly carbonated. Overall, if you have this beer on your Wants list, take it off of it. You can do much better, this beer is boring.
2.9 Bottle. Clear amber color, small white edge head. Aroma of slightly medicinal toasted caramel. Taste is malty caramel.
2.6 Frankly this amber just has too much going on. Lots of different characters all vying for position leave this otherwise crisp amber lacking
3.1 Reddish-brown, clear, decent head and sparse lace. Aroma and flavor is quite malty, caramel malt, sweetness, a little herbal and a little earthy. Body is pretty light, and despite the low IBUs, bittered enough to be pretty balanced. Carbonation is low but ample enough. Overall it’s not fantastic, but it’s refreshing enough that I’ll enjoy each of the six bottles quite nicely.
2.9 This isn’t that good. Some sweet caramel, but quite more sugar really. Doesn’t work.
2.5 On tap at an OKC. Pours a clear deep amber with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has musty grain and a wet wood note with a hint of earth grains. Flavor has notes of wet wood and earthy grains with just a hint of musty hop.
3.8 Great malty beer with little to no hop bitterness. Easy to drink - flavorful but not over the top. Went great with a fancy grilled cheese.
3.0 This is one of several beers I picked up in Taos, NM on one of my days off there. Light amber, nicely carbonated, mild bread and grass. Some caramel, but the most memorable aspect of this beer was watching it spill all over my neighbors in the movie theater. They were chatting anyway...
2.6 Not as good as it looks. Had a great head and dark color out of the bottle but its taste didn't live up to its appearance.
2.3 Not bad, not great, better than Miller, Bud, Coors, etc. but only just. I bought it because of the cool label. That was the best thing about it. I’d drink it again but wouldn’t go looking for it.
3.2 Bottle shared by drabmuh. Thanks Matt! The beer appears orange, with 1/2" of head that leaves some random traces of lacing on the glass. The aroma is earthy, and piney, and malty. The flavor is balanced, with a bready, earthy taste being more present than the hop character. The feel is fairly light bodied with a buttery consistency on the palate. Overall, a decent brew. Nothing terribly exciting, but I’d have it again. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-11-2011
4.5 smooth excellent ale. appearance is great. smells rich yet creamy. i live in cali and dont know where to find it here. was visiting n.m and ran accross it. the label caught my eye, im not gonna lie. bought a 6 pack and loved it. wish i had more
2.5 Bottle label was cool. Other then that, not much going on. Some caramel malt, bread and grainyness. Simple. LOL someone gave it a perfect "5" Guess they never drank a Lost Abbey, Three Floyds, Alsmith, Rochefort before.
2.6 Clear amber pour with a very thin head. Aroma almost non-existent, slightly caramel once I found it. Balanced sweetness and bitterness; slightly nutty/roasted flavor. No finish to speak of. I won’t be buying this again, but I will finish my six-pack.
5.0 This American Amber Ale surprised me. It sort of appears from the label like a gimmicky beer. But, it had a full mouth-feel and a smooth biscuity flavor. It’s carbonation seemed low, but I think that led to it’s being a surprisingly ’refreshing’ beer. Now, I don’t believe that a beer has to be ’refreshing’ to be good, in fact many of the best beers out there are not the least bit ’refreshing’, I found Roswell Alien Amber Ale to definitely be smooth and sessionable.
3.0 Poured from a draft into a pint glass at ABQ Pub in Albuquerque, N.M., on April 21, 2012. It was tough to see with the lighting, but seemed to be caramel amber. About a finger of head once I got it. White, frothy lacing on the top. Wet, foamy and spongy film on the sides. Worked hard to find a smell, but eventually got some roasty, nutty and toasty malts. Tasted somewhat similar to the nose. Nutty, roasty malts. Seemed to get some light chocolate notes as well. Foamy and smooth. Medium body. Creamy texture. Above average carbonation. Smooth, somewhat long finish. It was an OK beer overall. It had its moments and I might have enjoyed it more (or less) if I wasn’t at a UFC fight.
2.9 12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a lightly cloudy dark amber with a small ring of white head. Aroma of caramel, roasty malt, and dark fruit. Taste is light bitter. Roasty malt and a very slight hint of dark fruit. Not a whole lot going on for taste here. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, it’s ok. It took care of my "Nevada" beer so I’m ok with it.
2.3 Admittedly, I bought this beer strictly for the gimmicky look of it while in NM. Nothing much to this beer, very bland.
2.9 Pours a clear amber with small tan head. Sweet malty aroma. Mildy bitter with moderate sweetness. Light bodied, smooth finish. Not bad.
