Sierra Nevada 40 Hoppy Anniversary Ale

Sierra Nevada 40 Hoppy Anniversary Ale

Hop-forward beers weren’t popular when we started brewing in 1980. But we loved them, and we knew that if we were going to open a brewery, we’d better make something distinctive. It’s been 40 years since then, and we’re still brewing what we love. This beer showcases the bold flavors and aromas of a classic West Coast IPA: intense pine and citrus with a deep gold color and slight caramel sweetness. Here’s to following your passion, and to the next 40 years.

3.4 Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours a clear, deep golden with an off-white head. Subtle tropical aroma. Medium body, soft on the palate, a clean, dry fruitiness with a subtle bitterness. Very smooth and pleasant and in many ways more subtle and elegant than so many more modern IPAs. 270121
4.2 35,5 cl. bottle at home. Medium high fluffy white lasting head. Hazy amber body. Mild grapefruit lemon pine aroma. Smooth and quaffable very well balanced dry and dusty grapefruit lemon pine flavor with a nice hops bitterness, low carbonation and an alcohol level that seems just right.
3.7 12 oz. bottle, from Safeway. Bottled 8/28/2020. Pours an unclear, orange color, with a medium, off-white head. The nose is lavender, wet grass clippings, cardamom, and light rye. Dry and nicely malty, with a strong, even bitterness. Medium body, with a chalky, grainy mouthfeel. This is a solid, old-school IPA.
3.6 Panda at home, thanks to SHIG, 29/12/20. Clear golden with a well presented just off white cap. Nose is bitter orange, light pine, toasted malts, lemon zest, grass, trace of hop spice. Taste comprises orange squash, ripe melon, mixed tropical fruits, grass, light pine needle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close spliced with balanced hop bitterness. Decent enough IPA.
3.1 #3956 Many thanks to pivnizub! Cloudy, orange, medium white head. Aroma of orange, floral. Taste is slightly sourish, a bit bitter, juicy, but empty, orange, needle-leaves. Medium & medium.
3.4 24/12/2020. Bottle sample courtesy of SHIG, cheers. Pours clear dark gold with a small frothy white head. Aroma of citrus, hops, orange, flowers, pine. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation.
3.7 Bottle: Poured a hazy yellow orange with a fluffy white head. Aroma is a mix of hops and fruits, citrusy mostly. Taste is edgy bitter hops forward, some juicy citrus fruits, and just enough malt to balance.
3.2 Bottle 0.355l, trade with pivnizub, dankeschön! Cloudy, light orange colored. AROMA- citrusy, malt, herbal and spicy. FLAVOR- dry, bitter, citrusy, pine, spicy, malt. Medium bodied. Average one.
3.8 It pours amber and clear with a white, peach like head. Head retention is very good. It has aromas of pine and stone fruit with low citrus. It has pine flavors with stone fruit and light citrus. It has a background of bread and there is a spice element. It has a medium body. Overall, the finish is actually a bit spicy. The pine and stone fruit work well together.
2.7 Part of the retirement/birthday haul from my colleagues, thanks guys. a small bottle. Aroma: a grapefruit field. Appearance: opaque golden amber, one finger off-white head. Palate: medium-bodied and rather creamy, average carbonation, very astringent finish. Taste: heavily bitter, citrus, a surprising hit of butter lingers. Respectable, though not my favourite style.
3.7 Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden with a thick lacy white head. Aroma of pine, citrus and orange. Flavor of sweet malts, pine, citrus, caramel, orange and grass.
4.1 Citric notes, an excelent compromise between flavours and acidity
3.4 Copenhagen 30/10 2020. 35,5 cl bottle from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh. Ø. A big orange “40” on black background to signify the anniversary. Pours hazy, golden yellow with a medium-sized white head. Settles as thin, patchy layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. No lacing to speak of. Aroma is medium intense with a sweet, fruity odor mingling with a tart citric scent. Mango and peach. Grape fruit and citrus. A bit juicy. Medium strong carbonation. Thin, watery, lively and tingling texture. Flavor is medium intense with a light sweetness followed by a strong, citric bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter. Finish is dry. Nice enough and pleasantly dry. But I would go for a Torpedo if I had the choice.
3.7 Somewhat orange copper with a white head. Sweet fruity hop profile though the beer itself isn’t too sweet. Some citrus and pine in there over medium caramel Malts. Solid but not necessarily special.
3.4 Bottle pour hazy gold with thin white head. Nose dank, stewed vegetable, pine tar. Taste moderate bitter, pine, dank, light sweet malt.
3.5 Golden medium bodied, sweet hop aroma. Nothing over the top, but a solid IPA from Sierra Nevada nonetheless.
3.4 Poured golden, with a big, foamy head. Floral aroma. Taste is orange peel, grass. Decent, but not as hoppy as I expected
3.2 Bottle. Cloudy gold with a medium head. Aroma of grainy hop. Flavour is bitter fruit, lingering palate, Pine and herb, long spiced finish.
3.8 Bottle. Danke Günther! Hazy golden, offwhite cream. Classic citrus, lychee and pine hoppiness. Medium+ chewy body, mellow dry mouthfeel. Light bready malt, a hint honeyish caramel malt, pleasant broad citruspeel, grass and pine finish. Well crafted classic with oomph.

3.5 35,5 cl. bottle. A golden coloured beer with a white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, hops, citrus, mango, sweetness, tangerine, papaya, caramel and with a with a bitter finish.
3.4 Was hoping for a fresher batch but this just in to, 7 months old, is as good as I can get. Into an IPA glass at just on chilled. Not much audible life as the cap came off and it pours with as much vigor. Almost still aside a little sparkle. Head is ill to form and settles with just a ring of white on the meniscus. A hazy, honey amber body that is quite appealing and segway to the sweet malts of this 'Hoppy Anniversary Ale'. Soft, malt and pine nose - a little subdued for something supposedly 'intense'. Caramel and camphor, menthol and a touch vinous in the aroma. A nice balance of citric and piney hops and chewy, biscuity malts on the palate. Nothing here is intense, nothing here is groud-breaking. It still tastes fresh, so 'kudos' to that. A lean ale. Hoppy, bitter, camphorous and minty/herbal finish. Minty basil linger after the toasted, grainy sweet mid-palate subsides. Grapefruit and navel orange shine through late into drinking. A touch of vitamin 'C' tablets builds also. Approachable. Very quaffable and drinks of a 4.0% ABV session ale. Not what I anticipated but a solid beer none the less. (12fl.Oz, PKD 21/01/20, Cellarbrations Lynwood)
3.7 Bottle at the flat in Sofia - picked up from Nosferatu. Pours clear, burnished gold with a thick, foamy white head. Light-medium sweet with restrained piney character, citrus rind, sun-kissed pale malts, a hint of tangerine and mango. Medium bodied with active, massaging carbonation. Balanced finish, more citrus hop accents, nips of pine, sturdy pale malt basis. Sound.
4.2 Light amber and hazy with a two centimetre thick head. Very fruity smell: orange, passion fruit, papaya and mango. At the attack the taste of an exotic fruit salad, later a piney and herbal bitterness hits. This is an excellent IPA.
3.4 Pours copper with a tall thick white head. Aroma is mostly sugar. Flavor is mostly hops with some caramel. Very carbonated.
3.7 Bottle with commonmac and highendtully. Copper with medium white head and good lacing. Piney nose and taste. Some malt on the tongue with resin.
3.6 355 ml, bottle conditioned, BB Dec 16th 2020. Hazy, golden amber, thick white head, nice lacing, low carbonation, loads of powdery sediments. Aroma is citrusy and piny, nice malty backbone. Medium mouthfeel, bitter and dry finish, low carbonation. Taste is malts up front, hops in the middle, long fruity, citrusy, piny and sweet aftertaste. Very nice IPA, even if this particular bottle has less than five months left of its shelf-life.
3.4 Bottle picked up from BeyondBeer, Hamburg, Online Webshop, had this Friday 31st 2020 at Landgasthof Kastlhof Campingplatz, Pillhausen. Pours hazy gold/amber with a white head, furryness, light bitterness, I like this but it's not as good as a Torpedo, citrussy, dry finish, good.
3.3 Bottle. Hazy golden with medium off-white head. Aroma is malt, fruit, hop, pine and caramel. Flavour is malt, fruit, hop, caramel, pine, medium sweet and medium bitter.
3.5 Botella de @Vivalabirra, Oviedo. 24/07/2020 Color amarillo corona de espuma blanca aromas frutales, sabor cereal, malta, cereal cuerpo medio.
