3.1Pale orange pour with a small white head. The Aroma is also very light, some hop, pine and a touch floral. The taste is crisp and sharp, the finish is quick a very easy drinking beer.
The surprise with this beer was the nice malt tones.
3.7Bottle: Poured a slightly hazy light beige color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of West Cost hops with citrus and pine notes more abundant then expected with some solid cereal notes. Taste is also dominated by some citrus notes and some pine hoppy notes though are offset by some solid cereal notes with limited sweetness. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Well brewed and quite enjoyable though with the amount of hops in this one we are getting away from the style guideline.
3.5Rich body, average head, light amber color. Hops noticeable in finish. Could give Anchor Steam a run for their money!
2.812oz bottle from spinrsx. Clear light amber with a thin white head that pretty much disappears. Very light aroma, mild hops and malts, bit of pine and lemon. Smooth and light but a decent body, mild bitterness and carbonation, becomes dry with an off putting sweetness and malt taste at the end.
2.8Bottle to glass. Gold pour with small white head. Aroma is slightly fruity with a bit of spiceiness. It was a decent beer, but nothing special.
3.7Bottle, mix pack, ty Kelly! Orange pour frothy bubbly white head. Nice fruity aroma, mild. taste is really good - so drinkable - perfect light body balances with some light hops and just perfect fruity malt. Nice hops in finish. Hard to describe - but this is just the perfect session like beer. Really good.
3.4Sampled as part of a six pack. A really nicely malted brew. I would still say Anchor Steam is a classic california common, but this is a nice attempt to replicate the style.
3.6poured gold with a white head. nose is citrusy hops, faint earth, dry, and light fruits. smooth on the palate, thick malts backbone, earthy and a bitter finish.
3.1In short: A blond beer with some fruity hops and minerals. Just ok, and I still don’t understand what a California Common is supposed to be
How: Bottle 12oz, part of the 2011 Beer Camp Mix Pack. Consumed relatively fresh approximately 2.5 months after the mix pack was release.
The look: Clear golden-blonde body topped by a small white head
In long: Nose is slightly citrusy (apricots mainly) with a bit of minerals. Taste is very smooth, dry white bread, some minerals (almost salty and white pepper), apricots juice, some watery honey, a tiny bit of caramel, green pine needles, refined white sugar (crystal malts?). Mild bitterness. Body is a bit oily. Basically I thought this was like some kind of fruity APA with too much minerals. I still don’t understand the California Common style. Nothing very interesting here, I’m opening something else, because it only becomes a hangover if you stop.
3.4Golden colored, no head and it was poured properly. Hoppy aroma. Full of
flavor, with hints of citrus. Medium bodied, with nice bitterness, and a long bitter dry finish. Very tasty, it was my first California Common but will not be my last.
3.4Pretty nice brew from the beer camp series. Has a sweet, malty taste with a nice crisp and bitter finish. A well balanced beer, enjoyable beer.
3.7Beer camp #8. A few months old, but kept in the fridge the whole time. Pleasant floral and spicy hops in the nose along with a touch of toast. Golden colored with brilliant clarity, a smallish bone white head and steady carbonation evident. Nice malt backbone that showcases a moderate munich addition, so it is bread crusty and enjoyable and a nice amount of spicy and floral hops. Well balanced and enjoyable. Some lingering malt and spicy hops.
3.4Bottle. A clear golden beer with a thin white head. Aroma of hops, bread, fruit, and some sourness as well. Taste is lightly sweet, with notes of bread, fruit, toast, malts. Sweet and slightly bitter finish. Medium bodied, somewhat syrupy.
3.4Pours a clear gold with a foamy white head. Nose is fruity yeast, grainy malts and honey like sweetness. Flavor is crisp and clean maltiness with a herbal character. Nice east drinker and seesionable beer.
3.6Pours a honey orange. Aroma of yeast, caramel, sweet floral notes and roasted malts. Taste follows the nose. Mellow and sweet with lively carbonation. This would make a great summer day or night beer. Good balance and easy to drink. Nice beer.
3.6Appearance: golden coppers under a large pithy blotchy head which fades splotchy and broken. Swirls clumpy and bubbly.
Nose: biscuit, crackers, saltines, dried straw. Lemon pith and green grass in the back. Table crackers. Dried stems and flower petals. Sunshine and dried grass.
Palate: smooth, creamy, and bready up front. Breads lead into saltine and water crackers. Lemon peel and pith along the sides. Bread sticks to the middle with just a hint of honey. Bitterness is subtle, bittersweet. Dry finish in the back of straw and crackers.
Final Thoughts: nice. A fine contender for the original Steam Beer ala California Common.
3.2Clear golden honey coloured body with short head. Rich malty aroma with a sweet taste that is not too heavy, a bit of a woody note, light caramel and finish of hops.
3.0RBESG August 2011, White Horse on Parsons Green. Golden with a small white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee. Sweet toffee dominated flavour
3.2Draft. A dark golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of straw, malt, and some herbs. The flavor is sweet with notes of grain, malt, herbs, and hay, leading to a dry finish.
3.4Bottle from Whole Foods, Fair Oaks, VA. Pours a hazy orange-yellow with lots of stuff floating around. Fluffy white head. Flavor of toasted grain and raisins. Sweet, but nicely balanced with a hoppy finish.
3.6The beer pours a light orange color with a white head. The aroma is full of bread and graham cracker. I also get a little bit of honey in the aroma. The flavor has the same malt component as the aroma, with the addition of some toffee and grass from the hops. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. I am not usually a huge fan of this style but this beer was pretty good.
2.9Crisp, clear slightly copper coloured golden body with a soapy, fairly ugly off-white head. Aroma of metal, light hops, earth and a twinge of citrus. Medium-bodied; Assertive alcohol and metallic bitterness at first with a rather deep and long-lasting maltiness, some strong metallic and medicinal flavours and a good sweet and alcohol bite at the end. Aftertaste shows some complexity, but largely a deep and pungent flavour. Overall, an okay california common, but not a great beer - showing too much bitterness, a bit too much body and alcohol and not enough lightness and floral tastes. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 23-June-2011 sampled on the other end of the United States at home in Washington on 27-October-2011.
3.4Draught@SBWF2011. Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is fruits, malts, some mash sweetness as well as some herbs and mild earthyness. Flavour is grass, dry grassy hops, mild herbs, fruits, wood and some mild toasted notes as well.
3.2Brown-gold appearance. Fruity and malty with a good dry finish. Some hints of wheat make this very drinkable.
3.0Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival. Hazy deep golden, small head. Fruit and bready. Mid sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Some honey, salty finish.
3.412oz bottle as Sierra Nevada Beer Camp California Common: Pours a clear deep golden bronze with a stringy-lacing ring of white head. Has a lightly sweet pale malty nose with a touch of noble hops and light fruity notes. Starts with pretty good fullness and some clean malty sweetness with a touch of sweet corn and good authentic bittering hop balance. Finishes drier, crisp and bittersweet. True to style and fairly drinkable.
3.0(12oz bottle thanks to Dixonian) clear gold with a ring of white bubbles. Nose of clean grain, husks, a bit of grape and raisin. Taste is vinous, grape, a bit of alcohol, tinge of tartness and cracker. Nice carbonation and oily body.
2.8[3893-20110819] Tap. Light grainy aroma. Clear, light orange body with a quick foamy head. Sweet grains flavour has a good grassy yeast base. Medium body. Average. (5/3/6/3/11) 2.8
(Called "California Common" @ Cole’s, Buffalo, NY)
3.7Bottle at home in NH, shared with Charlie (he wasn’t a big fan). Pours clear gold with a foamy, white head. Grass and bread aroma. Medium to very sweet flavor, lots of toasty caramel, sweet bread. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Faintly warming finish, sticky sugars, caramel, mild earth and grass. Pretty sweet, but not bad at all.
3.2Pours amber with a large, fading head.
Nose shows floral and spicy hops, sweet resinous notes, lots of sweet clean malt as well as some light fruit (apples, white grapes, pears). Very nice!
Flavours are quite different, with toasty, nutty malt, bready characters, industrial alcohol, cardboard notes and spicy hops. Quite a mix. Unfortunately the industrial character is really quite prominent.
Too much carbonation, which only serves to emphasise that off-flavour.
