Sierra Nevada Beer Camp West Latitude Session Rye

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp West Latitude Session Rye

2016 Beer Camp Across America Collaboration with Bear Republic, Faction, Mad River, Magnolia, and Maui.

West Latitude combines our Californian Left Coast love of fruity hops with a touch of Hawaiian “aloha” from the addition of hibiscus flowers, all anchored by robust malts and spicy rye. This session beer is light in body but looms large, like the long shadows of a westward setting sun.

Brewed with Centennial, Citra, Comet, and Mosaic

3.6 Bottle. Packaged on: 04/04/16. A clear ruby pour with a thick khaki head. The nicely balanced aroma features grapefruits, caramel, rye bread, a spiciness, and floral notes. Fairly thin-bodied on the way down. Heavy on the malts upfront in the taste with some caramel, rye bread, a nuttiness, and some earthy grains. Grapefruits, zesty citrus rinds, and some resiny pine finish things off with a bitterness that lingers. I’m not exactly sure how this qualifies as a session beer...
3.6 Spicy and fruity. No sign of "floral" - the hibiscus must just be for attitude. Guess I’ll just kick back and enjoy. Aloha.
3.9 Deep red brown with a dense moderately persistent creamy head. Medium bodied with a nice malty flavor. Noticeable spicy rye finish. Definitely one I would come back to.
3.4 From a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear pale cola with an ecru head, Flavors of rye and citrus. Bitter finish,
3.9 Looks like root beer coming out of the can into the glass. It has a nice frothy head. I can smell the rye 18 inches away. It has a hint of sweetness or sasparilla to it as well. The aroma is hoppy, bitter citrus and rye. The flavor is more rye malt than the aforementioned. This beer is quite damn good, I must say as are most all the beer camps I can remember.
3.6 12 oz. bottle from a Beer Camp 2016 pack purchased from Stop ’n Go. Pours a clear deep bronze color with a finger of off-white head that settles into a film, ring, and plenty of lace. Mellow toasty malts, light hibiscus, rye, chocolate, mixed nuts, and earth. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth, earthy, malty, lightly bitter mouthfeel. Nice beer.
2.7 Decent rye beer. Aroma and taste were both dominated by rye spiciness. Pour was a beautiful dark red with a half finger off white head. Roasted malt and a slight smokiness came out as it warmed. Green hops in the finish. Nice carbonation
3.3 Light florals and big rye taste. Some citrus and a little peel. Light tangy finish. Good balance. Bottle from mixed.
3.7 Poured into a shaker glass. Mahogany color with a cream colored head. Aroma has some spicy rye and tropical hop notes. Flavor is similar with a nice dose of rye up front and finishes with some bitterness and light tropical notes. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Quite sessionable.
3.1 i expected a more pronounced rye aroma and taste. the overall palate and taste felt a bit muddled and not very well nuanced. an average ale.
3.7 Somewhere in between a hoppy amber and not quite an IPA. Has ligher malt content (mostly rye) which gives a clear, clean and crisp feel. Flavors of sweet malt and hops that you would get in an IPA, but without all the floral and piney notes. Another solid collaboration by SN and friends.
3.5 Bottle: Poured a deep dark brown with caramel edges, head is off white. Aroma is citrus nose with robust malts. Taste is strong malts mix of sweet and roast, nice floral and spice finish.
3.3 Bottle from the 12 pack. Pours a dark brown black color. Has some hop and malt. Very nutty. Pretty good
3.1 This is basically kind of a hoppy brown ale, I guess. It’s dark, slightly cloudy and has a huge, creamy head. It is kind of vaguelly hoppy and that’s it, not much flavor beyond that. It is full bodied and creamy in texture w/o being sweet so drinkable enough but there’s just really not much going on here. It comes off as kind of boring and perfunctory.
4.1 12 oz bottle from the sampler case. All of these are really good and quite a surprise from the mostly average Sierra Nevada company. Try one before they’re off the market.
3.5 Bottle - fair size foamy head, dark Amber brown color, well balanced with toasty bready malt and light the spice, and good size hop bitterness, very good overall
3.4 Bottled 4/4/16, poured into shaker glass. Piney aroma, medium body, mild rye and pine hops taste with a lingering medium bitter finish. Decent session beer but not a lot of nuance going for it.
3.2 Pours hazy copper color with a 3-finger bone-colored head. Peppery rye aroma mixed with a bit of a sweet, floral note from the hibiscus. Body is medium and a touch watery. Dry finish with a touch of astringency. Flavors of sweet hibiscus and piney hops mixed with grassy rye. A bit of earthiness to the finish.
3.3 12oz bottle from the mix. Copper-brown pour with medium cream white head. aroma is pleasant earthy, rye, fresh fruit. tastes are rye, pine, light spice, little nutty, background floral, herbal.
3.5 Quite good although with a quite thin ending. NIce in aroma and taste. NOt so difficult to appreciate in characteristics.
3.3 Bottle from DQ beer station. It pours clear rich brown with a thick, foamy beige head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, spicy, rye bread, malt loaf, earthy, wood, cereal and toast. The taste is bitter, brown bread, spicy rye, toffee, cereal, wood, leather, touch of alcohol, pine needles, toast and coffee grounds with a dry, spicy finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. A bit chewy after a while. Decent stuff anyways.
2.9 Thanks to altonbrownd for the bottle! Bottle into a shaker showing well filtered dark brown and foaming around the rims. The nose shows light notes of tropical fruits - pineapple, lime, and light cannabis. The palate is light bodied and fully carbonated. Immediately shows flavors of light pineapple and kiwi. Slight rye spice shows up afterwards. Finish shows a light tea bitterness.
2.8 Malty look but citrus hops smell... interesting...taste is odd..first thing that came to mind was detergent..but it’s just the hops....hops are pretty prominent..finishes more bitter than I like, a touch of complexity but not much
2.7 Nice color, deep brown red with thinner tan head. Light malt in the nose. Just not a fan of rye and its that harsh bite that comes with the rye, it just gets in the way for me. Not my style.
3.8 Clear walnut brown.. foamy light khaki head... crisp rye and subtle brown maltiness adds a dirty earthiness.. bright citrus hops.. very drinkable and remarkably complex for a lower ABV brew and still very drinkable. Proper... I’d buy this if SN put it out in 6’ers.
3.9 Bottle: Clear, copper-red with a tall sandstone-coloured head. Rye, tangerine-peel, floral aroma. Taste is creamy/soft rye malt, orange-peel,.....peel and floral hops... Malty, with a nice, easy bittering. Full-bodied and quite tasty.
3.7 Bottle. Pours clear burnt umber, small beige head, good lacing. Aroma is floral, grapefruit, citrus, pine. Flavor is earthy, spicy rye, floral and citrus notes, pine, caramel malt. Light sweet, light bitter, spicy rye finish. Light plus body. Interesting.
3.1 bottle, from High Craft Beer Market. Cary, NC. Packaged 04/04/16. good aroma, sweet, fruity bready. moderate hops, on the tropical side, mango, peach. strong rye, moderate roasty malts. great looking beer, nice brownish orange color, good head and lace. sweet bitter flavor. medium body, thin creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish that has a bite about it, it’s fine, not super exciting, again, I wish I grabbed these earlier, but not showing any bad signs, but a 4 month old pale ale isn’t my usual thing
3.5 12 oz. bottle. Pours a reddish/dark caramel color with a brief white head that settles to a film. Aroma is fruity, almost citrus and a little spicy with some roastedness to it. Medium body, heavy malt sweetness with the rye spice coming through. The floral hop taste is nicely balanced here. The finish is a little roasted. Not bad.
3.1 Here is a rye pale ale that seems a little unsure of what it really wants to be. It is a little like a BA/IPA combination, very few of those around. Rye, brown bread, a little pleasant acidity. But what I really want to know is: how did 6 breweries combine to make a beer like this?
