3.5 Canned, 473 ml, at Valhalla, Zagreb. Black with beige head. Caramel, chocolate, some maple, sweet, bit spicy. Warming. Medium sweetness. Medium bodied.
4.8 De Labirratorium. En copa Teku. Estudiando + Jugando a Order of the Thorn Kings Challenge. No he notado el sirope de arce, pero es todo un señor birrote, con un perfil tipo black ipa pero mas corpulenta
3.5 Swing away on the limb of life as HG shakes the branches. A throat-full of syrup couldn’t stop HG from licking the bark off every birch tree in sight. 🌳 🌲
3.6 12 ounce can. Pours dark brown with an average tan head. Aroma of fruit and molasses. Taste dark fruit, molasses, and malt. Not too sweet. Pretty good. Earlier Rating: 6/24/2013 Total Score: 3.8 705 ml. shared bottle. Pours a clear brown with a decent tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, fruit, chocolate, and spice. Taste is roasted malt, fruit, chocolate, caramel, and spice. Very good.
3.7 2019 vintage. Good, kind of like cross between a brown ale and a barleywine, with with toasted pumpernickel, cocoa, caramel, and toffee underlined by cherry and orange, followed up by maple sweetness and a savory birch fade. Gets a bit sugary as it warms--the maple begins to crowd out any nuance--but a memorable brew, good for sharing.
3.8 2019. Chocolate, caramel, pitch black, chocolate, roasted malt, sweet, bit soapy (?), maple, not boozy, syrupy
3.5 Deep red-brown body, medium clumping brown head. Tangy nose, grape, syrup, and wood. Initially rather delicate and soft, sugary with grape and syrup notes, toast, and a vinous bite, with a woody tannic aftertaste developing post-sip. The booziness is sharper with warmth but there isn't a concomitant heaviness. I'm enjoying my second taste of this more than my first...it's not a great beer, but it's pretty good in relatively small doses.
3.8 Pours a deep, dark mahogany coloration with a large, creamy head. Smells of toasted, bready, caramel malt, brown sugar and sweet and spicy maple/birch syrup. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by toasted, bready, caramel malt and sweet maple/birch syrup, with the birch syrup standing out particularly, lending a slightly spicy quality to this, as well as notes of brown sugar and earthy/herbal accents, with just a hint of pine and dark fruit: fig. Finishes bittersweet, with a light bitterness and some sweet and spicy maple/birch syrup, toasted, caramel malt and brown sugar lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with medium/rich body and medium carbonation. This is quite a well-balanced Strong Ale that's not nearly as sweet as I had feared from the maple and birch syrup additions. In fact, the more dominant birch syrup adds quite a nice spicy quality to this, while the rather herbal/earhy and lightly piney hop notes help balance out the sweeter bready, caramel malt, brown sugar and lighter dark fruit presence, Perhaps a tad boozy, but really not too bad, making for a rather pleasant sipper that manages a good balance between sweet and bitter/herbal/spicy notes.
4.3 Can. Pours dark brown, some tan head. Brandy, maple syrup, big piney hops aroma. Big body, malt bomb, boozy, maple syrup, bourbon taste. Big ol brew, really cool.
3.5 On tap at SBWF19. Dark with tan head. Roasted notes, syrup, wooden notes, alcohol, dried fruits, nutty notes with a alcoholic warming finish
3.0 0,473 l can at Valhalla Craft beer bar, Zagreb. Shared with Pliš and Šarki. Dark, small lasting head. Aroma is syrupy, caramely, sugary, dried figs, alcohol, glue. Spicy alcoholic! Flavour is malty, nutty and toasty with a strong alcohol presence. Dried fruit again in the finish. Strong, boozy, some herbs, not too sweet. Dangerous.
4.1 10/2019 At John’s funeral. Very tasty and bold enough to beat the name. I like a good beer with a good hit. Balanced between hop and malt for me. Yum.
3.7 Canned 473ml. -at Goblet Zagreb. Dark brown coloured, medium sized pale beige head, light roasted malt and whiff of maple in the nose. Toasted and light roasted malt, caramel, maple syrup and slightly spicy with bitterish sweet finish. Alcohol hidden.
3.9 0.473 l can from 'Rudat', canned in May 2019. Clear, dark ruby with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity-resiny and a little herbal aroma of caramel, pine, some marmelade and traces of herbs. Gently sweet, malty, slightly fruity-resiny and a bit herbal taste of caramel, pine, marmelade and herbs, followed by a medium long, gently bitter, slightly resiny and quite herbal finish. Medium to full body, smooth and gently creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Really pleasant beer, extremely well-balanced and saturating, not just messing around with weird ingredients but giving it a unique touch.
4.1 No. 3/2019 AR: Cola, Karamell, malzig, nussig, Melasse AP: klares sehr dunkles rotbraun/rubin TA: Röstmalz, Holz, Melasse, Ahornsirup, Lakritz
3.6 Nice woody aroma with some maple syrup, chocolate and booze. Pours brown with a tan head. Sweet up front with an aftertaste that's a little harsh. Some aging would do this well.
3.9 Can. Pours pretty much black with creamy beige head. Big caramel and maple presence in the nose. Sweet with a touch of bitterness up front. Molasses and maple syrup. Medium bodied and very nice.
3.6 Pours a very deep amber that it could be easily confused with black. A medium tan head lingers for a moment. Slightly sweet and slightly boozy, the aroma contains maple, caramel, licorice, toasted malt, and oak. The taste isn't all that sweet and it lacks bitterness. A mild alcohol base is the foundation for maple, molasses, chocolate, raisin, cherry, earthy and toasted malt, and oak. Even though there is quite a bit going on here, these impressions are well balanced. The finish is a combo of earth and alcohol. Medium in body, thick in texture, and you are left with a bit of an alcohol burn. This one is complex and interesting, but it wasn't as exciting as I hoped. I was expecting more.
3.5 Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of syrup and malts. Taste of maple. Lots of unique malts, with a real alcohol kick. This is a good ale, thumbs up!
3.7 Aromas of carbonated dark malts roasted malts licorice maple syrup toffee coffee tree bark oak star anise figs and brown sugar. Taste is sweet syrup, wort malt, brown sugar, maple, toffee, roasted malts, caramel and crystalized alcohol sugars. Overall, pretty straight forward stout characteristics alongside sweet sugary syrup.
3.8 Can split with the Bro - Pours pitch with a tan head. Nice sweetness with malty undertones, but a bit one note.
3.6 Can from Appalachian Vintner. Pours dark, dark brown with a khaki head. Leaves a shitload of lacing in the glass. Probably getting more of the birch than the maple syrup. Hides it’s booze well. Finished clean.
4.0 Can (5/19/19) pour into nonic pint glass from Greg & Jane's Beer and Wine. Appearance is dark brown--almost opaque black--but when held to the light a hazy, mahogany/dark orange with nice sparkle, 1.5-finger width beige foamy head with nice retention and light leggy lacing. Aroma is strong lightly roasted caramel malts, woody/earth, maple, vanilla. Taste is caramel, earth, maple and a little bit of sweaty feet. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with thick texture, soft carbonation when cold, average-to-lively as it warms with a hint of alcohol burn and then nice esophageal warmth, and finish as taste. Overall, a nice amount of complexity and things work in harmony for the most part. Enjoyable across the board.
3.5 Pours dark mahogany with billowy tan head that leaves ample lacing; sorghum and fruitcake on the nose; rich, complex palate with a warming finish.
3.8 From a pint can. Pours a clear cola with a big tan head. Aromas are woody with some maple in there. Flavors are moderately sweet with maple and sarsparilla soda. Nice combination, actually.
3.3 From a 16oz can. Very dark reddish brown with a dense tan head. Darknmaltu slight smokey aromas and flavors. Darkneqrthy malys and just enough hop bitterness to balance. Big and full and ri h dark malt flavors.
4.0 Pours a dark brown with an off-white foam head. Aroma is earth, caramel, and roast. Flavor is sweet maple, caramel, and toffee. Well-carbonated and smooth. Quite good. I bet this would age well.
3.5 7-14-19 cans CBC
