3.7 750ml bottle from the Malt Shoppe in Tosa. Pours a golden orange with an off-white head that sticks around for a while and leaving a nice coat of lace on the sides of the snifter. Aroma has pine and citrus and caramel with something herbal or yeasty. Taste is of sweet caramel, tangy pine, grapefruit and some bready malts, with that solid Sierra Nevada yeast. Medium bodied, the carbonation is solid and there is a bit of an alcohol presence. The blend is solid to good; the sweetness of the malts is a strong factor in there, but eventually the grapefruit component becomes more of grapefruit rinds, and the strong hoppiness of that becomes the biggest player. Finishes to the bitter side of bittersweet, but the sweetness still hangs in for balance. Well, this one initially was much different than the middle or the end of the bottle. Sweet, somewhat ineffectual and bready/yeasty became a grapefruit rind bomb. Still stayed enjoyable, although salty and rougher. 13.8
3.3 Citrusy earthy dank hops in the aroma. Grapefruit, tangerine, some honey, very well balanced scent. See through light amber color with a large off-white head. Tastes earthy and dank as well; not much up front then the hops hit you with a slightly bitter grapefruit rind aftertaste. The palate is a little weak. The amount of carbonation is spot on, but other than that, it’s a bit watery. Great idea from SN, but the execution just falls short of many of their beers.
3.2 Pours a cooppery amber from a bottle. Fig paste aroma follows in the mouth along with grapefruit and a faint biscuit. How is this not an APA? Good beer nonetheless.
4.3 Clear copper pour, fluffy slightly tan head. Nose is caramel and herbs. Bitter. Middle is sweet caramel, wood shavings, earthy malt. Finish is pithy bitter citrus, not overpowering. Outstanding beer.
3.3 2016 vintage bottle. Poured a nice orangy amber. Good nose with notes of citrus, earth, and hops. Decent balance of hops and malt. Drinkable IPA, but doesn’t have that dankness of fresh hop ales I’ve come to enjoy.
3.5 Bottle at home while in Florida. Pours amber with a white head. Sweet, grassy trop fruit aroma with a good amount of candy. Pine, orange candy, lemon, wood, grass, toast, light vanilla... Nice.
3.7 Citrus and tangerine with good malt backbone. Easy to drink and well balanced, unpretentious IPA. Bottle.
3.2 Bottle. 2016 vintage. Nose is very grassy and light pine and spruce. Very clear medium copper with large white head, rocky, great lacing. Taste is initially bitter followed by a moderate creamy caramel but never cloying or sweet. Light pepper. Overall, the grassiness seems to dominate most of the flavor profile in a way that detracts from the classic citrus IPA profile. Decent.
3.8 Pours a nice deep amber color. Aromas of hops/hops/citrus. Strong hop flavors with malts and a dry finish.
3.9 Moderate amount of citrus. Deep orange brown color. Hazy. Frothy head with residual lace up the side of the tulip glass. Medium bitterness. Finish is long and bitter. Average carbonation. Medium body. A very good but not great IPA.
3.2 Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a snifter. Hazy Crimson, medium body, medium/light carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is dank hops, herbal hops, and slightly bitter finish.
3.6 Aroma of caramel, pine resin and hops, pours a caramel color with a lasting off white head. Tastes of resin and caramel with a medium body oily feel and a bitter hop finish.
4.0 Pours a deep, clear copper with a medium white head which lingers a bit......aroma is caramel, malt, pine notes.....taste is some pine, touch of earthiness, very present and chewy pale malt taste, tailing off into an earthy bitterness. A different tasting IPA but well done and nicely balanced.
4.1 Bottle. Pours hazy copper with thin white head. Nose is dank and some citrus. Taste add some spiciness. Good.
4.0 Bottle shared by Damian and Lona. Pours a slightly hazy anger with a thin layer of beige head. Aroma and taste of bitterness, pine, and a nice malty background.
3.5 Solid example of the style...hoppy but not a hop bomb...nice grapefruit and citrus notes...i enjoyed
3.7 Bottle. Clear copper color with thick light biege head and substantial lacing. Nose of fresh pine hops and fresh cut grass with hop oil and floral perfume notes. Fresh pine bitterness with some caramel notes. Resiny bitterness throughout especially in the long finish. Slightly watery mouthfeel.
4.1 bottle. pours a bright copper with a fluffy, chunky head with lots of lacing. Aroma is juicy and bitter hops. Delicious malts and hops come together seemlessly. Sierra Nevada can always produce a rockstar or the industry standard.
3.8 Pours a clear golden orange on tap with fluffy white head that dissipates to leave great lace. Aroma of resinous citrus and pine hops, the three c’s, and some nice caramel malt. Taste follows, nice balance, moderate bitterness. Very clean, very nice.
3.9 Appearance: pours with a very large beige head, beer is a very clear dark bronze color, almost brown Aroma: egg, bread, pine, grass, dank, floral Taste: very strong bitterness, dark toasted malt, Palate: strong bitter aftertaste, average carbonation, medium mouthfeel Overall: intensely bitter throughout, has some coffee malt in the background, some of these Sierra Nevada beers are the most bitter I've had and I like them, could use a bit more complexity
3.8 Bottled. Nice golden copper. Has a nice smooth taste. A nice bold floral piney hops. Has a hint of gratefruit and Orange. Great IPA.
3.1 Draught at the tasting room in San Diego. Clear golden/copper beer with a nice offwhite head. Fruity hop aroma, peach, grapes, citrus, hay, biscuits, floral notes. Hoppy grape flavor, citrus, hay, floral, some peach and caramel. Not top class.
4.1 Tap @ Toronado. Not much aroma. Taste initially malty and then takes a hard right into full hoppiness! Great surprising beer with hops of pine.
3.4 Draught @ Stag’s Head (10/28/15). Dark amber with small foamy beige head, slight caramel aroma, low carbonation, salty caramel taste, long bitter finish. A bit too bitter.
3.5 Bomber pours amber with a huge, fluffy white head and excellent lacing. Incredibly balanced for an IPA. Very earthy in aroma and flavor. Just clean, bitter, and smooth.
3.6 Pretty good wet hopped ipa. Aroma doesn’t blast you in the face but it’s pleasant. It’s on the much more earthy aroma side of things than big citrus fruit in my opinion. Taste is earthy, very bitter and a bit of grapefruit and pine. Oily and again, nice bitterness. Overall this is a good wet hopped beer. I rarely get big in your face aromas and tastes from these, but I like to try them. I think the earthiness takes away from the big hop aroma and taste.
3.6 Crystal clear deep amber, amble foamy yellowish tan head. Big grapefruit citrus, light pine, honey. Pleasantly bitter, quite a lot of malty sweetness. Some light spice. Chewy, slightly oily, medium body. Longer finish. Good.
3.5 Bright orange pour from 22oz bottle at Pazzo. White head. Citrus, bready and malty aroma. Taste is interesting. Grows on you after a few sips. Super bitter, citrus and pine, earthy and malty. Decent IPA. This is a 2014 rated in 2015
3.5 Bomber. Clear deep amber - orange pour with a big frothy head. Earthy, spicy, some grapefruit. Somewhat sweet.
4.8 Excellent beer! Pours a full copper color with a full body hop aroma filled with grapefruit and citrus. The taste is lightly malty with a moderately bitter finish.
