Sierra Nevada / Faust Oktoberfest (2017)

Each year, we partner with a different German brewer to explore the roots of Germany’s famous Oktoberfest beers. This year, we’re collaborating with Germany’s Brauhaus Faust in Miltenberg, whose approach to the classic style we’ve long admired. The result is a festival beer true to their style—deep golden in color with deceptively rich malt flavor and balanced by traditional German-grown whole-cone hops.

3.7 Bottle. Clear light orange color, light white head. Malty aroma, low spicy hops. Sweetness on the flavor, malty and grainy. Crisp finish, refreshing with lots of flavor.
3.6 Bottle@ 9/10/17. Bright amber color with ivory head. Nice spicy caramel, herbal, sweet malt aromas. Medium bodied. Lightly sweet n spicy lagered caramel, herbal, light fruit flavors--crisp finish___good
3.6 Pours deep gold in color with minimal head and decent latticing. Subtle aromas of sweey malt on the nose. Rich malts and mild hops blend well on the tongue. Smooth, malt lingers while hoppiness shows up but doesn't linger. Very good example of a marzan.
5.0 So glad they did this beer with Faust. I’ve been to their brewery in Miltenberg and they are a class operation! Found the spear to be very good. The multi this is balanced really nice, and it feels great in your mouth. The golden color reminds me of autumn. So sad that I won’t be able to get this beer after the next couple of weeks. This has been a favorite
2.4 OK, its a bottle with the label pictured. Mild perfume sweet aroma. Surprised I haven't had a S/N fest before. Pours a richer looking pale to the eye. Taste is strongish malt medicine with a tad of sweet spice on the end. Acceptable beefy alky brew.
3.6 Bottle from Hop City Atlanta. I'm really starting to look forward to these annual releases. Classic fest beer with a decent amount of hoppiness. Great.
3.7 Bottle. Pours clear, bit darker blonde. medium-low sized head, rather stable. Smell is bit weak, mild sweetness, tad grainy ( white bread). taste is sweet, bitter ( not overly so ) , some green, grassy aspects of the hops, very mild fruityness. The beer, regardless of the low abv, does have a bite to it. Very nice beer !
4.4 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. 2017 batch. It pours a carbonated copper color with a modest somewhat lasting cram colored. head. Decent clarity. Big Euro-malt aroma on the nose with sweetness and sourdough. A little peaty. Medium body. The sweet malts play up big in the taste and there is a traditional feel about the flavor with a mild to moderate bitterness at the finish. I quite enjoyed this one.
3.7 It pours deep golden with moderate head retention. It is very clear overall. It has aromas of toast with herbal elements. There is a slight hint of fruit, apple. It has flavors of toast with a bit of dough. It is also quite spicy. There is a slight hint of fruit, apple. It has a moderate body with a smooth texture and moderate carbonation. Overall, it is a rather clear beer with the hops is support and the focus on the malts.
3.2 Bottle. Clear amber with light off-white head. Cereal, banana and caramel. Cereal and caramel. Sweet but less so than most märzens. Malty finish. Märzen is not my favorite style but this is a style-pure version of it.
1.3 this is an Octoberfest???? I have liked their previous brews for Octoberfest, but this one is far too hoppy and light to be considered an Octoberfest. Not sure what they are thinking when they think of Octoberfest. This isnt a good version, at all.
3.5 12oz bottle from Total Wine in Brookfield. Continuing the rite of the season quest during the MLB playoffs to find a good version for style. Pours a clear golden copper with little head. Aroma has golden cracker malts and stone fruits. Taste is of lighter golden malts, stone fruits, some orangey citrus. Taste much more like a lager than a marzen, with the lighter malt base. Better for that??? Shrug? Still the style is not ideal. Medium bodied or lighter, with little alcohol presence, the blend is ok. Finishes lightly sweet. Oh well, likely time to stop trying. 13
3.8 Poured from bottle. AROMA - malt and spice. APPEARANCE - dark gold. TASTE - dry malt, spice, some hops. PALATE- dryer than most of this style. OVERALL - I would buy again.
3.4 I had it on tap. It pours a pale amber with a white head. The aroma is caramel, bread, and herbal hops. The taste is the same with fruit hints. It's really easy to drink and smooth. There's a lingering sweetness to it. This is good.
3.7 Light golden brown color, decent head, medium malt flavor, not as much as most oktoberfest beers, slightly fuity notes.
4.2 It pours a pale gold with a small white head. It has a roasty, biscuit aroma along with a floral & resin aroma. This is a super easy to drink beer without sacrificing any flavor. I taste bread, caramel, resin & flowers.I'm glad I bought this and recommend it to others.
3.6 Bottle from Beers of the World into a pint. Aroma of bread and caramel malts.
3.9 12oz bottle from Wegman's (Charlottesville, VA). Aromas of cereal, faint banana, pound cake. Clear amber-gold with a mostly lasting white head. Mostly dry, toasty malts upfront, light golden raisiny sweetness, grassy and dry finish. Light-medium bodied.
2.8 @ Stockholm Beer & Whiskey Festival 2017: Småsöt och maltig - men inte nåt särskillt inspirerande.
3.5 Bottle from Taniguchi, overpriced - maybe even more than the Hanshin Event. 650¥+ for one bottle is ridiculous! Clear Amber color with a biscuity roasty aroma. Light bodied and crisp, with lots of rich malt notes and a peppery herbal hop character. I like it but not as much as yesterday's Be Easy... It does pair nicely with the sausages which brings out smokey notes from both.
3.3 A 12 fl oz bottle, packaged on 7th July 2017, poured into a Holy Mountain tulip glass. It was a nice clear copper colour with a just under two finger white head that had decent retention and left behind nice lacing. Aromas of toasted bready malts, black tea, grassy, herbal with a splash of lime. Tastes of bready malts, cracker, apple, pear and grass with a touch of spice and floral notes. Light to medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Overall, this was pretty good. I enjoyed this version more than the ones from 2015 and 2016.
3.0 Sample at SBWF 2017. Golden with a white head. On the sweet side with malt, mild hops and some fruit. An ok one.
3.8 Deep golden pour into a dimpled stein. Aromas of rich toasted malt, with caramel, yeast and grain. Tastes of a very rich toasted malt and bread and with a mild earthy hop note and touch of citrus.  Medium to light carbonation with a bitterness, dry finish. This is a unique and tasty beer. Not your typically marzen, but a very good beer none the less.
3.5 Squat, potato masher 12oz bottle with a festive Bavarian-style label. Clear, pinky-orange with a short white head. Cereal, powdery malt aroma. Nutty sweet, husky, slightly astringent, slightly toasted, Vienna-esque. A little astringent and straw-bitter at the very end. Generally pretty tasty and sessionable. Market Square Liquors, Tallahassee.
3.8 Bottled September 27th. Pours a clear and bright gold with a lot of bubble action and a great head of foam. Toffee, bread, kinda grainy with a light hop nose. Toffee, earthy malt, bits of grass here and there. Certainly not sweet and mildly bitter, eminently drinkable. Fresh is as fresh does.
3.4 12oz bottle pours a clear golden copper with a large white head. Faint aroma of caramel and toffee malt. Taste of clean light caramel and toffee malt with light yeast and hops on the finish. Low on overall flavor but drinkable.
3.8 12 oz. can from Total Wine, Raleigh (Triangle). Canned July 7, 2017. Dark orange pour with a frothy off-white pour. Aroma of damp pale malt and faint floral hops. Taste is somewhat sweet with notes of caramel and graham cracker blended with floral and mildly citrusy hops. Clean finish. The best American-made Oktoberfest-style beer I have had.
3.8 Pours clear copper with a thin head. Aroma is malty bread. Flavour is very malty bread too, bit of bisuitness and very light corn. I quite like it as far as lagers go.
3.5 Copper color, moderate head. Bready, mild biscuit, some mild hopping. Nicely balanced lager.
3.0 Tap at SBWF. Deep golden colour, small white head. Aroma is sweet malty, slightly grainy. Light-bodied to medium-bodied. Sweetish malty, grassy. Somewhat Germam. Ok.
