Sierra Nevada / Fuller's Beer Camp Atlantic-Style Vintage Ale

Sierra Nevada / Fuller's Beer Camp Atlantic-Style Vintage Ale

We’re calling our Beer Camp collaboration an “Atlantic Vintage Ale” which combines elements from Fullers’ robust Vintage Ales with some American-style hopping techniques. We used plums in the brew to complement Fuller’s naturally fruity yeast strain and we’re bottle conditioning the beer for added longevity. This beer should age well in the bottle for years to come. Drink it now or stash some away to revisit in the future.

3.0 Bottle from the mix pack. Clear copper colored pour with a minor head. Plum is there, which is nice, but other than that I get English ale character, which is not.
3.7 12oz bottle from the box set. Pours mostly clear golden orange with a thin off-white. Sweet malt, orange, pineapple, bread dough, yeast. Fine carbonation. Sweet malty finish with some late bitterness creeping in. Yum.
3.5 From the mix pack. Bottle->snifter. Deep copper with small ecru head. A: heavy malt, molasses, some metallic notes. T: caramel malt, toffee, stone fruit, candy. Still some metallic notes, a shame. Ok.
3.9 12 ounce bottle from a beer camp around the world variety box poured to tulip glass Sight: dark amber, small foam, appears clear some lacing Smell: slight aroma of hops, toasted malt stronger Taste: low bitterness, some sweetness Mouth feel: good follow through, good finish, bitter aftertaste Overall: Very good beer, ok to repeat not to look for
4.1 12 ounce bottle. The beer is a clear copper with a white head of foam. Aroma is sweet and moderately fruity. A bit woody. Some toffee and nutty aspects as well. Bigger body and medium carbonation.
3.5 bottle. amber with one finger head. it's not often these days that i drink something and have no idea what the hell i just drank or how i feel about it. it's big and bold, moderate plum and stonefruit. malty and fairly sweet. moderate hops. it's not bad, but it doesn't entirely work for me either.
3.5 12oz bottle from beer camp pack picked up at Brook Falls Discount. Amber colored pour, white head. Aroma has sweet fruits, plums, somewhat yeasty. Barleywine-ish. Taste same, sweet malty. Really gets quite sweet. So barleywine-ish. The sweet plums are nice, but a little sweet. Medium bodied although stronger seeming. Some alcohol. The blend is ok. Finishes sweet and fruity. 13.3
4.2 Ar: Toast and rich, marmalade-covered English muffins; pineapple and light caramels; pure, juicy, and sugary. Ap: Pure orange and lightly hazy; small off-white head with low retention, leaving a very finely bubbled band and a thin nebulous center. T: Deep and richly toasted biscuits; medium sweetness; marmalade, toffee, hard caramels, and a spicy, warming alcohol; cooked cranberry; bitterness is medium-low with an accompanying earthy, wetly mossy hop flavor; booze, pineapple, and spicy orange into the finish. P: Medium-full body with medium carbonation; finish is medium-dry. O: A gem of a beer; UK malt, yeast, and hop flavors in spades; cooked fruit and rich, boozy dessert breads come to mind.
3.6 Dark amber color with a medium head. Veey strong fruity esters. Almost banana-like. Bready, caramel flavor. Yeasty. Light apple. Leaning sweet. Hop flavor, with more fruitiness. Seems more like a dunkelweizen.
3.7 Bottle in CO. Pours mostly clear orange with a dense, frothy head. Nice bready malt aroma, some jammy oranges, English yeast. Medium sweet flavour with more bready malts, marmalade, mild booze, toasted biscuits, honey. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, more bread, fruitcake, ripe and Jane citrus, some peel. Fun stuff.
3.3 Pours hazy copper with a white head. Aroma of English malt, vegetables, plums and spice. Taste is heavy sweet and lightly bitter.
3.7 Deep hazy copper hue under a thin ivory foamy cap. Nice slightly warm and plummy aroma with a bit of toasted English muffin malt. Big smooth flavor that's a English malt bomb but not too dark, actalluy kinda balanced and bready, light fruity plummy yeast esters, light citrus undertones, and a gentle citrus rind hoppy undertone. Full and a touch boozy but balanced and contemplative.
3.6 Sample during the "Collaboration Beers On Deck 2!" event on 08/13/2017. Hazy amber-garnet color with a medium flurry white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Aroma of roast malt, fruit and hops. Medium body with flavors of caramel malt, ripe fruit and earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.1 Bottle out of beer camp pack. Caramel with some earthiness and bread flavors. The alcohol is quite masked in this. I bet this is great on draft.
3.5 A well balanced strong ale. Some hops at the nose which gives way to a sweet body. Alcohol is completely masked. Some caramel and yeast flavors.
3.4 Bottle shared by Kyle, thanks! Pours a clear amber gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet grains and bread with a bit of straw backing. Flavor has sweet grains with light flora and a touch of caramel.
3.7 Bottle from the Beer Camp mixed Camp. Feelaber with a small head. Fruity rasters on the nose. Plum and fig. Some banana bread. Light tobacco and caramel. Drinks a bit sweet and hot. Doily tobaccos, fig meat. Hot finish. Pronounced booziness. Solid.
3.7 A nice Aroma of plums as I pour this beer. Pale Amber and tan-colored head. It hazy amber color that shows golden hues when held up to the light. Metallic, herbal hop notes, nice, plum fruit notes and toasted, caramelized malt. Sweet caramelized malt flavors yields to fruit notes of plums and raisins that has an herbal and bitter Edge to it in the Finish. Toasted grain flavors add a bit of astringency that mixes with the Hop bitterness both of which provide the bite in this beer. The body of this beer is a touch on the thin side for what I would expect from a vintage ale; this is not unexpected given the plums, but I could certainly wish this was a bit richer in the mouth feel department. In the end this beer is quite nice, I like the mix of rich broodiness, supporting caramelized and toasted malt character, and lightly accenting herbal and fruit hop flavors. As the beer warms up, even the body picks up a bit more viscosity and richness, it makes this all that much more enjoyable.
3.0 Pours a light brown with a compact white head; aromas of brown sugar and stewed plums; palate is off-dry with a light body. Seems something is missing for the strength...
3.2 Can sample at a tasting at troubles’ place. Thanks troubles. Clear honey-gold with a creamy head. Plum, heavy fig, alcohol and yeast in the nose, Plum, a little alcoholic and fruity taste. Medium body, fizzy, long, dried fruit, prune and raisin finish. Would be better slightly aged.
3.8 Amber color . Nice, white head. Bread, fruits, toffees in aroma. Rich malty taste with decent bitterness at the end. A good one.
3.6 Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Aroma has a bit of a muted character, but there is some caramel, toffee and toasted bread notes from the malt. Light fruity esters that are complimented by the plum but also include raisin and fig. Hints of alcohol spice. Pours a somewhat hazy, copper color with a medium sized, fairly thick and creamy, light tan head that exhibits nice retention as it slowly recedes. Light lacing and medium small legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with some lingering sweetness in the finish. Malt notes of caramel, toffee and toasted bread with maybe a hint of honey. Moderate to moderately strong bitterness with a woodsy, resin, and earthy note to it. Light raisin, fig and plum notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low, but present alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer. I think this one will definitely do well with some age. The malt profile is so light right now and some age might help accentuate it without really hurting the fruit notes. Hops are fairly light and shouldn’t really be impacted by age.
2.7 355ml bottl.e Hazed amber pour. Aroma is fuirty and bubblegummy, some herbal hops, sweet malt. Flavor is boozy bubblegum, some toffee. Not great.
3.8 12 ounce bottle. Amber orange with a rocky beige head. Mild fruity malt nose hints at plums. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor. Rich and malty with obvious plum notes. Citrusy hops in middle. Sticky, chewy malt finish hints at stewed fruit. Warming alcohol notes as well.
3.4 12oz bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy brownish burnt amber with a small, quickly-dissipating off-white head. Aroma is plum, yeast, some toffee, some caramel, and a small amount of alcohol. Taste is toffee, yeast, plum, some cherry, light citrus, and bread. Slightly drying. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Slick mouthfeel.
3.7 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazed deep gold with a plum colored hue and a short lived white head. Plum and other dark fruits on the aroma with yeast and English hops. Flavor features the above mentioned fruits as well as a mild hoppiness, yeast, even some oak tannin. Full bodied with a dry finish. Nicely done.
2.8 Bottle. A- Plum, malty. A- Copper color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Plum, slightly sour, subtle caramel, malty. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, boring finish. O- I must say I thought this was gonna feel more along the lines of an old ale and I thought about holding off but ended up popping it open. A fair amount of plum on the nose and a sour Japanese type plum taste. Otherwise fairly one dimensional.
3.9 (En fût à Timmy Nolan’s Tavern and Grill): Corpulence moelleuse voire crémeuse avec un courant d’alcool chaude, d’une richesse caramélisée et d’une costarde fruitée.
3.2 Bottle poured a clear orange with a lasting creamy ivory head. Aromas of bread, light fruitiness and light yeast. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of bread, fruitiness and a hint of yeast with a smooth finish.
3.2 Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Citrus and malt aroma. Caramel and light citrus flavor with light summer fruit. Medium bodied. Caramel and citrus lingers with light plums.
